We stayed at Gorge Base Camp for a recent visit to Hood River, and while there were a few positives, overall the experience just didn't work for us. On the upside, the park is extremely clean, and the location is super convenient for exploring Hood River and the surrounding area. The convenience store next door came in handy more than once, which was a nice bonus. Unfortunately, there were quite a few downsides that made our stay less than enjoyable. The staff member we interacted with was surprisingly rude and unhelpful, which set a negative tone right off the bat. The layout of the park offers zero privacy--the office is located in the center, and all the sites circle around it like spokes on a wheel. We were placed right at the entrance, next to the dumpster and the dog post, where people regularly dropped off their dog waste. Not exactly the most relaxing spot. The park is very small, with no fire pits, no river access, and little to do onsite. If you're hoping for a scenic or peaceful camping experience, this isn't the place. One of the biggest issues, though, was the freight train that passes by multiple times every night. It's incredibly loud and woke me up every single time. The other side of the park runs along a busy highway, which adds even more noise. I really wish I had taken the time to read more reviews before booking--we definitely won't be returning. We were driving 6 hours already when we pulled in around sunset. Right before 5pm. We selected what we thought would be a vacant spot, a back-in for our truck cabover. I got out and had a look around, looking for the office or anyone working. Next thing we know this blue-haired fat troglodyte comes running and screeching, saying we "didn't have a reservation and didn't pay," and would give us three minutes to come to the office or she would call the cops. My wife said, "we're winging it!" We didn't call or check before coming and she aggressively came over and confronted us. She wouldn't listen to me when I said I was looking for an employee or the front office. I got upset with her behavior which was totally uncalled for and very RUDE. We decided then to go back across the bridge and find a local campground, Viento State Park, arriving at night which I never like to do. This unfriendly employee working at this park put us at risk by not being accommodating, and setting us out on the roads after dark. Avoid this place. read more

No complaints! We were there for a short weekend. We had a pull-thru spot in the east side. Everything functioned as expected (water, power, WiFi). We did not use the provided facilities. There was no need to interact with the office so the lady who was complained about in other reviews wasn't encountered. Yes, there is train noise but it didn't bother us. First, here is the important stuff: They have RV parking and tent area (separate from RVs). If you're interested, RV spots have: Water, Electricity, Sewer We were here from Sunday to Tuesday, 8/2 to 8/4: This is a great place for people planning on parking their RVs and taking off during the day. It's not really a great place to stay and chill all day long. It's right next to the Hood River Bridge (although it's $2 to get across then another $2 to return). We were in site 6 and want to know what my view was? TRAFFIC, oh, and a beautiful gas station. I had to laugh. I picked this place because it was near a lot and it received pretty good reviews and honestly, the breweries were closed in Hood River due to COVID so technically could have bypassed this one. Speaking of COVID, the guy in the office nor the 2 customers inside wore masks. That did not make me happy. Please wear a mask! We do it for you, please do it for us. Basically, your campsite choices, if you have an RV, are traffic noise or train noise. Honestly, I would have preferred train noise. There was a spot open the entire time I was there and I asked if I could have it and was told no. Meh! I really didn't pay much since I received a discount with Good Sam membership. I paid under $40. so that's a plus. I guess I need to say the good because I have been cranky...blame it on the traffic noise. ;) - The place is clean. - You're supposed to have wifi access although I was never able to connect. - We had a decent size grass area with a picnic table. Considering the one next to us (#7?) didn't have any grass, this was a blessing. - We didn't have a dog but saw that they had a good size dog area. If you are tent camping they have a nice area that's under a bunch of trees. Granted, you are right next to the tent area. It looked so serene. Honestly, I told my husband that we should just bring our chairs and sleep there. Really, our site wasn't as noisy if we had our air conditioner on all night. ;) In the tent grass area there is a horseshoe pit. Yes, I played and wasn't that terrible. Just try and get deeper into the park and not on the street near the entrance. It will probably make a difference. read more

Have to agree with the earlier review. our welcoming committee was the before mentioned "Karen" before we were even unhooked she was yelling at my husband for lying on his reservation, not long after she was back out yelling at our daughter for stopping her car near our spot. I'm afraid our experience this weekend will hinder us from staying again.. * a person with that attitude should not be working at a place where everyone is out to have fun, and the reality of your situation is not life or death. She needs to calm down. This nearly ruined our weekend as my husband and many others don't handle confrontation like that well. Do Better.... Fantastic park ! Impeccably maintained and great management. Right across the Columbia from HoodRiver, . Sites handle 45' pushers and large 5th wheels with ease, very cool tent area as well.The parking of RVs in HoodRiver is a bit tough. HR has great day use parks right on the beach and a large event venue area but RVs are not allowed, which makes Bridge RV Park a real treat. Just so you know I'm new to the RV World!! That's why I try to take as many pictures as possible!! We had to change our reservation serval times due to my work schedule. There was no hassle changing our reservations and no penalty fees. Once we arrive to this location check in was a breeze. Just so you know if you stay at this RV park and plan to go on to the Oregon side you have to pay a dollar to use the bridge. The RV park itself was very well maintained and you are not sitting on top of your neighbors. You kind of get a little view of the river in between the trees. There was a tree near the RV park which hosted a mama eagle and her baby. So the negative was the train that I believe goes by every 30 minutes. Sometimes during the night I swear I felt the ground shake. But honestly I didn't mind. To me it's better than hearing ignorant loud nearby people!! Hahaha read more

The bare bones of this park are met. Decently kept , and conveniently placed. Full hook ups with no issues. Good dog area but it's pitch dark at night and the sewer vents all end there so the smell is not pleasant. You are next to the Hood River Bridge , the highway, and the railroad tracks. There's a convenience store next door that is open 24/7 and can be annoying. Between semis using jake brakes to slow down, or excellerating it's loud . Locals seem to enjoy romping on it there as well. Trains can be loud but we were on the road side so that was overwhelming. The spaces are very small, some with grass, some not. The spaces are varied. It's not a relaxing place to camp or spend time outside your RV . It's probably a good spot to do day trips. The bridge noise is non stop. Beyond that it's expensive for what you get. If you are doing an overnight maybe it's worth it depending on what site you get. They've packed the maximum amount of spots in there and if you have a larger rig it can be iffy. We stayed monthly for work near there. We were charge $775 a month which included an extra $20 per dog.We had made the reservations prior and upon arrival we were assigned a space that was very difficult for us to fit in with our 49 ft fifth wheel. I went to the office to let them know the tree in that spot was causing issues. I was given clippers. I had to climb on the roof of our RV and trim the tree myself in order to open our slides. Our rig stuck out as seen in the photo. Also none of the staff ( which is all owners) wear masks, ever. The woman was wearing political t shirts, and the older fellow owner had a very loud conversation that leaned very racial with another camper and I can quote "I'm not racist but they all look alike! Well they do!" Then he and the campers proceeded to laugh and laugh. They also restrict their cable channels offered to only provide their political leaning channel. They displayed items and books in the office with an obvious political slant. The younger gentleman in the office was the personable one but he as well never wore a mask. Had we another choice in the area we'd have left. They do not allow refunds at all. The display signs for that on the door and in the office which lends to the idea they deal with that often. read more

The park is clean. The facilities are clean. I do feel things are a little tight manuevering a 38 ft 5th wheel, especially looking at how we will be leaving. The saff is very nice and helpful. Sites are asphalt with grass area, which is nice. What rubbed me wrong and caused me to drop my rating, is that I have to pay for a shower. I paid over $50 for one night stay and you cant let me have a free shower??? To me thats tacky. Ps......if you make a reservation and you must come accross the Hood River bridge, it is SCARY NARROW! Literally I had to fold my mirrors in and opposing traffic had their mirrors folded in. the son of the business, i'm not sure his name, is phenomenal and wonderful to talk to and do business with. the mom however. don't know her name. guessing it's karen, absolutely atrocious. i don't know how you can run a business where you scream at your customers all day just for being there and paying money to stay there. she does not look into anything before screaming at you and is absolutely unreasonable and i will never stay here again because of this woman specifically. she threw my id at me. checked me out early because i packed up my tent because didn't want it to get stolen. if the son was the one running the place i would encourage everyone to spend their money there. but that unfortunately is not the case and the camp ground comes with a grumpy old troll under the bridge. sorry bro. i tried to be reasonable with her but i just can't deal with that read more

We've stayed here for the past couple years as we make our pilgrimage down to Oregon wine country. The manager is a delight and we've always had a great visit. Large pull through sites with plenty of room for large rigs like ours. Some people complain about the trains, but we find it relaxing and not an issue at all. Clean and well maintained restrooms and showers as well. read more

We stayed one night here and would highly recommend this park. The roads and sites are paved and very wide. The restrooms and showers were modern and extremely clean. While we didn't speak with any of the park personnel in person we did speak with them twice by phone and received excellent service and information. Five star for sure. read more

Nice campground, wonderful hosts, and nice clean bathrooms. However if you are tent camping just know the train operates all night, and is close enough that you could throw a rock and hit it. As you can imagine it is pretty noisy all night long. Also to get to it you do have to cross the toll bridge from Hood River, so keep that in mind as well read more

The lady running this place is nuts! we pulled in with our camper and my son pulled in with his boat and the lady (owner?manager?) literally came out screaming that we can't have a boat here. I told her I was happy to pay for it at the overflow parking lIke their website says and she said she hates fishermen and we need to leave. long story short, I didn't, cops showed up, and she had to honor the contract of the reservation and we stayed, boat, trailer and all. thanks for ruining out Memorial Day!!! read more

Well, it looks nice and clean and easy to get to..... BUT..... Too many freight trains go by at night...light sleeper here counted 14 all at night and some during the day, which was ok. This was a nice stop over. Grounds are clean. The bathhouse and laundry facilities were sparkling clean. Sites are close together but well kept. Obviously, staying between a highway and working train tracks there will be some noise. We solved the problem with ear plugs and a noise machine at night. Check in was easy. The owner is great. It's taken me a week to figure out how to write a fair review of this park. On the one hand, it's a clean, beautiful park in a nice location. On the other hand, it's one of those places where the owner wants to make sure that you don't forget that the park is his yard, so there are laminated signs everywhere, reminding you of every rule you might have missed on the document they gave you at registration. Huge high-speed trains go by frequently, but somehow they don't blow their whistles like in other locations. Showers are spacious and spotlessly clean, but on top of the $55 they charged you to stay, they want $.25 per two-minutes to use them. That feels like "double dipping". On top of that, they have those ultra low-flow showerheads, so you don't get much water. That feels like triple dipping. The cable TV package was channel generous and the wi-fi was the strongest I have seen yet. The guy behind the counter was gruff, but efficient. I really want to give this place more stars, but I have a thing about being nagged by laminated signs on vacation and the shower thing stick in my craw, so three it is. read more

Very nice RV park. It's clean and well maintained. We had a pull through which was quite convenient. Next to a gas station on the main road and easy to find. Staff were friendly. We travel with our dog and they have a dog area at the bottom of the park where you can take your dog to, out of the way from the rest of the RV's. The only thing to note that I wasn't aware of is that the park is on the other side of Oregon, so if you're here to spend most of your time on the Oregan side you have to pay $1 toll to cross the bridge each time. Also the bridge is quite narrow, so not so easy to navigate a large trailer through when crossing it. When we left we chose to drive several kms to cross a different bridge which is wider. read more

We stayed here over Thanksgiving week. We were pleased with the facilities that included laundry, bathrooms, dog walk, and propane. Yes, it's close to the rail road tracks but we really weren't too bothered by it, and that's with 3 kids, 2 dogs, a cat, and hamster in the rig. There's a convenience store right outside the park. There are two trails down to the water, the kids and dogs loved it. The view from the park is nice, and town is close. White Salmon and Bingen are minutes away for a coffee or groceries and Hood River is just across the bridge for a more in-town experience. We will probably stay here again. read more

Trains....trains...and more trains! They pass about 40 yards from the campground every 30 minutes. The good news is they don't blow their horn, but WOW! If you love trains or you are a sound sleeper give this place a chance. They have one of the nicest facilities we have seen including showers and laundry. read more

This was the very first RV park I had ever camped in...so I am no expert. But of the 5 parks we stayed at during our vacation, this was one of my favorites. It is settled on the Hood River - separated only by a train track (thus the 4, not 5 stars). It is beautifully landscaped, fully grown trees, is very picturesque, and extremely quiet. There is a cottage you can rent on the grounds. There is a 24 hour gas station next door. You learn these are very valuable especially if you don't have a tow car! The best spots are 15 to 22 - but they are not pull thru, just back up. There is a tent and pet walk area. We checked in late which was no problem. Very nice campground - would definitely stay again! read more

This is a beautiful park with an excellent owner that takes great pride in his Park. Beautiful sites we stayed in space 22 with wonderful views. Their are a pair of nesting Bald Eagles within 400 yards that we REALLY enjoyed watching. Theres only one thing you need to know when staying anywhere in the Columbia River Gorge - there are several trains running on both sides... So just get over it and enjoy yourself! read more

Don't tent here. Great and clean facilities. Works perfectly well for RV camping. However, the tent grounds are immediately next to the train tracks which run through the night, multiple times on the hour. You simply cannot sleep in a tent without waking up every hour. Fortunately, the staff was helpful, checking us out of our tent site a day early and giving us a full refund for that canceled night. read more

The staff was so nice and accommodating. Miss Donna was quite the darling to my family. I read a lot reviews about train noise. Well yes there was a train on the south side of the property but it didn't honk or keep my family up at night at all. My kids picked blackBerries right on the property and they had a nice area for my dogs to run. Growing up camping with my family I have been to a ton of campsites, never have I seen a bathroom so clean in all my life. Great job!! This is the second RV park we've stayed in and it kicks the first one's butt. It's more rv park than camp ground so note there's no fire pits, the sites are close, etc. But the spots are relatively flat, wifi is netflix-able at night, laundry and bathrooms are mega clean and nice. Yes, the train does roll by often and can be a bit loud but both me and my gf slept through the night no issue. If you stay here to go to hood river, know that there's no pedestrian or bike access across the hood river bridge so you'll have to drive. read more

We stayed here a couple nights with little ones in a travel trailer, It was nice! Small but nice and close to everything!

First of all, the goods: 1. They keep their restrooms spacious and spotless. Best I've ever seen. 2. Hosts were accommodating. We brought a portable fire pit and cooked Dutch Oven dinners over the stoney part of the site--with permission. 3. Family of bald eagles other side of the highway. Now, the not-so-goods. 1. Pull-through site #11. Avoid at all costs. We made reservations well in advance and they still put us smack dab next to door side of the bathrooms. Anything we did was easily observed by everyone coming and going to the john. And the heavy doors slammed closed all night long. A simple privacy wall or screen is needed. 2. The trains virtually roar through the south side. I got lulled by it, but the constant noise kept wife awake. 3. The site design was so poor I had to back into #11 any time I took the truck out for a spin. No big deal? Probably 100 feet of backing through other vehicles in the dead of the night. A miracle I didn't clip someone. Summary Nice try, but we will not be back. read more

This camp is really nice, is very quiet, it has a really good location, the staff is really nice and even do you can't go to the river because is very high, the view is amazing. The only thing is that the train passes next to the camp all night long and it's pretty loud. read more

We stayed at this RV from August 7, though August 11, 2018. This looks like the nicest RV Park in the Columbia River Gorge area that we have found. It is a smaller park but it had plenty of room for our 40 foot motorhome. The staff was very nice and helpful. Access to the park for us was across the Bridge of the Gods and then up highway 14. Very scenic with maybe four tunnels that appear low in height but are really tall enough for any RV. Good clean 50amp power and good cable tv. The laundry facility was very nice. read more

Don't stay here if you want a quiet sleep. The highway side is the worst. Trucks with airbrakes and unmuffled engines all night long. The other side of the property abuts the rail road which is actually not as loud as the highway but certainly is not quiet. There is no river access, they charge for showers, the sites are right on top of each other and many of the regulars smoke, thee employees are not gracious (they seemingly get plenty of business in the summer and are not motivated). It is not a peaceful place but can do in a pinch if you demand one of their quieter sites (there are a few which they save for their regulars). If you don't have to stay right in this area, look elsewhere. The Gorge is so gorgeous, stay somewhere you can sleep at night. read more
