Put up a couple hooks by the door to hang coats/hats. Put individual bottles of shampoo/conditioner and a bar of soap in the bathroom, not communal large watered down bottles. The sink was by the door in the main room, but needed an extra towel for it. Coffee maker was nice, but had wrong size filter/coffee pack, no stir sticks so we improvised. When we checked in a large dog was at the counter and I wondered if I was actually supposed to register with him. I don't mind dogs, but it would be unprofessional to someone who didn't like animals. The room rate went up $10 in the hour I first looked at the website to when I booked the room, and they do not take cash, even if they already have your credit card number, and I was charged one day early. With some conscious attention to detail this place could be a favorite but it was weirdly a little off in several little bit important ways. I would stay there again, the cottage was charming, but I'll be more prepared next time and bring my own amenities.

They are also pet friendly and the room had space for her crate too. This is a cute mix of hotel and cabin. The ice machine worked great, the room had a coffee pot and flavored creamer cups too. The shower worked well and bed was comfy too. I also walked to dinner nearby, it's off the main road and is super quiet but close enough to fuel/grocery/restaurants and a few casinos. Office staff was friendly and helped me out when the hotel room door locked me out just as I arrived. They have the traditional keys but you have to lock the door by reaching inside when leaving so I think it was left that way by the housekeeping staff or previous guest. Learning curve. Needless to say my pup and I had a great stay here. May be a go to when I'm up this way.

The hyper-enthusiastic conductor and tour guide (I didn't catch her name but she's the one who sings the end of each sentence) yelled into her microphone, blasting us with inescapable noise for more than an hour. There was no break or other opportunity to ask her to turn it down. She should have realized how loud it was and adjusted her voice or fine tuned the equipment. This also seemed disrespectful to the neighborhood we were riding through early on a Saturday morning. I finally resorted to putting my hands over my ears and still ended up with tinnitus for the rest of the day. You could easily walk the route that this train covers and see the same old mansions and city buildings. You would not get the commentary, but you would not have your hearing damaged, either.

So we took a chance and headed over first thing in the morning. They said we could bring our dog along so we bought tickets for the first tour. I'm so glad we did! The tour was great and the open air bus kept things cool with a breeze even in warm temperatures. The engineer was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and I'm honestly shocked at how much I learned about the history of this town. The kids who had him as their 8th grade history teacher were lucky, indeed.I feel like we got to see it all wrapped up in a neat little bow of a 1 hour tour. The price was incredibly reasonable and if you need to use the restroom before or after your tour you can just walk across the street to the Capitol building. They also offered snacks, drinks and souvenirs for purchase. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the city. I think even long-time residents would find this a fun, interesting and educational activity.

I called the Inn to let them know and they were more than understanding, saying that their restaurant would still be open by the time of our arrival and that they would have a glass of wine waiting for us upon our arrival. We did not arrive until 10:00 PM and received a warm greeting and as promised, the bartender was ready to pour us a glass of wine. We were able to sip it on the lovely outdoor eating area and fall asleep on the most comfortable bedding. Seriously, the beds here are magic. Rooms are very small and do not have A/C. Simply opening the window will suffice to bring in some cool air. Each wing has a communal bathroom. Bathrooms have all amenities needed moreover; each room has a cute bag of travel toiletries per bed. The building itself is both charming and formidable. While I see its potential, it is lacking in some upkeep and restoration. This the only downside. Something to note, there is a train that passes quite frequently and can be heard during all hours. This did not phase me in the slightest because of the wine. My favorite part by far was breathing in the fresh air and exploring the grounds in the early morning. The sky was beautiful and I managed to get in some pretty special photographs. It seriously put a smile on my face to see pigs roaming around and chickens out being chickens... This is located right across the Montana State Capitol building. The museum entrance fees are as followed: - $5 (adult) - $1 (children) - $12 (family: 2 adults and immediate children under 19) - free (members) Once you pay your fees you get a sticker and a receipt which you can actually use as admission for two days. You can go in and out during the day as well if you just keep your receipt. There are a good amount of exhibits here, including one about the history of children toys, history of bison and other wildlife in the area, the daily lives of Native Americans, and the journey of Lewis and Clark through Montana. Some of my favorites were reading and seeing clothing, weapons, tipis, and other artifacts that Native Americans used to live, trade, and hunt. You can actually go into a replica of a tipi and sit on one of the chairs like how they would. I also learned about the history of their interactions with Lewis and Clark as they made their way through Montana, including wars that broke out between them and resulted in whites taking over their land and pushing them out. There were also some exhibits about the different tribes in the state and where they lived then and now. This museum was very informative and is exactly what I am looking for when I want to learn about the history of wherever I'm visiting, especially for a small entrance fee. Quiet. It's quiet. The staff is friendly, the check-in and check-out were both easy. The room is ordinary, almost plain, but has a comfortable enough bed, a small refrigerator, a coffee maker (but the coffee isn't all that good but it gets the job done), the sink is separate from the shower and commode (a nice feature), there are okay amenities, and a window that opens to bring in the refreshing mountain air (if you want). The continental style breakfast is okay, not gourmet but serves its purpose. There's a couple of places that serve breakfast within walking distance (less than a 1/2 mile) for those who want something substantial. There's a picnic table near the parking lot, probably for the staff on their breaks, but it's a good place to sit if you don't want to stay in your room or go anywhere, and want to enjoy the outdoors. Elkhorn Mountain isn't a chain, so don't have those expectations and you'll find it a nice enough stop on your trip to somewhere else.
