The name "Budget Inn" automatically made me think it'd be cheap and low quality. But instead, it was a nice hotel at a low price. The staff member at the check in area was super friendly, and the things for sale in the check in area were really cool. There were helpful things like chargers and bathroom supplies, but there were also souvenirs like postcards and (very funny) candles. The room was nice, and it had a mini fridge, microwave, and TV. The wifi was consistant in speed, and the bed was pretty comfortable. Overall, it was a great experience. And they had free coffee! read more

So I booked this based on the price & location knowing full well it was a very old motel. I will not take stars off unless they falsely advise something that it was not. At 50% less than the other hotels, I booked this. It was for 1 night and we were already arriving at about 8p. The check in was fast and friendly. She was very helpful suggesting places that she thought was open for dinner, even calling one to check. The lobby has a chalk board wall with suggestions to eat and things to see. As I parked the car, there was a few people smoking outside that looked like they may offer the rooms by the month unless they were employees they give room and board too. So, not knowing the area, it does give you a slight not so safe place. Since my husband and I grew up in LA if doesn't bother us but maybe to someone else. We did love that this place is located just a couple of blocks from downtown which has coffee shops, book stores, shops, bars and restaurants. We walked about 4-5 blocks that night to a restaurant at the other end of downtown. In the morning, before heading out, we again strolled around grabbing some coffee and a local shop, checking out the church and then getting a bite to eat. The hotel itself need too much work to restore however for those of a budget, this a great place to offer in a great location. read more

The Budget Inn Express is a great value. Having said that, do not expect a mid-level national motel chain. There is no pool, hot tub, or play area for children. This is a clean, safe, realistic place to stay. It's not a "vacation" or "business" motel. The building is old and the location has a modest transient population. Caveat emptor... My experience included: clean room. Clean and crisp sheets, better than most national chains I've stayed in. Hot and cold water that is reliable. Immaculately clean bathroom. No mold or body hair. New mid-sized mini fridge. New microwave. Everything in the room works (lights, window coverings). A most comfortable bed. Truly so. I know everyone has a different idea of a comfortable bed, but this was, well, COMFORTABLE. I slept well every night. The climate control WORKS. Like home. Fancy, no. But reliable and easy to control. Coffee in the lobby every morning. Ice machine that works. Helpful staff, friendly and real people. WIRELESS IS AWESOME. Beats any national chain at $150.00 - $200.00 a night I've stayed at. The staff are real folks. They are fun, happy, and authentic. Treat them as people and you'll have a great experience. This is an authentic place owned by folks who are working hard to re-make it and they're doing a good job. I'll stay here anytime. Think "hostel," not Holiday Inn Express. read more

This is the type of family owned place I enjoy finding when I travel. Stayed here during a recent motorcycle trip. My room was immaculately clean and showed a high level of maintenance and care. Much better than most budget national chains. Super friendly folks. I asked for some local recommendations and was given a map and some very thoughtful recommendations. Great location for walking to a nice variety of places. Clean, (really clean) great location, friendly, fair price. No downsides. Would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

Utter filth, the dirtiest dump motel I've ever stayed at. That includes literally hundreds of nights at dumpy Motel 6's across the country. Grimy carpet and of course after an hour my feet were black, the thick blanket was full of holes. Shame on these slumlords. read more

I called today in a pinch to find my son a place to stay tomorrow for 18 days and Jenny at the front desk went above and beyond to accommodate him. Jenny was very helpful in moving things around to make sure he had a safe place to stay while in town. She spent the time needed on the phone telling me about places to shop, eat etc. A big thanks to Jenny for helping ease the stress for my son as he starts his new job tomorrow. I will post an update after his stay. Hopefully this is his home away from home for future out of town jobs. read more

This hotel is very basic and dated but clean. That being said, it's cheap, so you can't expect much more. The front desk staff were friendly. However, they appear to be falsely advertising a bunch of features on the sign out front they don't actually have. Said sign said 'fitness room', 'game room' and 'hot tub', among other things. We asked the front desk where these things were and were told they didn't actually have them. read more

I am embarrassed to admit that I actually stayed here, but I feel compelled to warn you not to. My lodging plans fell through at the last minute and I ended up staying here one night. It looks good at first glance: centrally located, clean and cheap. However it is plagued with extremely poor customer service. I needed an early wake-up call to get the only flight out to Denver in the morning. I never got the wake-up call. I went to the front desk and the woman said that I staid up too late the night before so I missed my taxi and the wake up call. She said she called and called and that the taxi circled and circled for me. However, it was not difficult to figure out that she was not telling the truth. She seemed amused at it too. I asked her to order another taxi. She asked," Where to? Your flight has already left. Where are you going to go? What are you going to do????!!!!", she said with a histrionic smirk. I again repeated I would like a taxi to the airport. Seeing that I was not going to entertain her by acting despondent or getting upset she finally called a taxi. I missed my plane. The ticket was extremely expensive since this is a very small under-served area. I could have been out a lot of money if it weren't for the amazing customer service I got at the Helena airport from the United ticket agent. The ticket agent at the United counter worked for over an hour to straighten out my ticket for the next day to return to DC. Hats off again to United. He went out of his way to help me and even let me use the phone to make a reservation at the near by Hampton Inn. (I forgot to take my cell phone charger on this trip and my cell phone was out of charge). The Budget Inn hotel is full of low lifes. The lowest are the people who seem to be the self-employed owners. Skip this place. If you must stay in Helena,stay at the Hampton Inn instead. It isn't really that expensive...nothing is (except the flights into Helena) . This is Montana. read more

Jenny & Jay went above and beyond to accommodate me at the motel while I passed through Helena on the CDT. They were kind enough to bring me back and forth from the urgent care upon my arrival so I wouldn't have to walk with bad blisters, which I appreciated so much barely being able to stand another minute! They were extremely kind and considerate of me during my stay. The room was fantastic too, very clean with a fridge, tv & microwave & the perfect bathtub to soak my feet in! The inn is also super convenient to downtown & all the local shops! I highly recommended this as the place to stay for all weary travelers who want a good home base in Helena! This motel reminds me of the motel where Earl and Randy lived in My Name Is Earl. I'd stay here again for that reason alone. The room was clean but a little run down. We were on the bottom floor and it was quieter than I expected. The clientele was a little sketchy looking. So I expected the room to smell like smoke but it didn't. read more

So relieved I was to find Nice long term accommodations on a moments notice. Jay assisted me in acquiring a room with no hassle. Also I was blessed to extend my stay 30 days. This is a good place to rest and enjoy all that the Last Chance Gulch businesses provide. Local eateries and fun shops to peruse and experience the Montana hospitality. Food is fantastic among the locally owned and staffed business folk. My room was clean and the Huge bed was a real blessing. Clean new sheets and comfy pillows. Nice clean bathroom, and OMG the hot baths with soft water was great. Plenty of hot coffee almost always on tap, a complete selection of sundry items a traveler needs in a pinch, and helpful office staff. Lots more good stuff to say, just come and see how one on a budget and needing accommodations in a pinch can feel at home here. I also must agree about this crap hole of a place. I was in the wonderful city of Helena for a conference with some friends and seeing I was on a very tight budget my wife and I stayed here. Well it was one nightmare after another. First when we first walked into our room it stunk like there was mold in the room. The smell only got worse. We then had some dripping in the ceiling. But did not worry about it to much the first night well the next morning I went to the owners I think they were to report it and got told that it was only the pipes. Well thatwas not the case for there was no marking in the ceiling till the third night were there appeared a very dark line. I called the front desk and Robert came down and checked it out after making the call like 5 minutes prior to him showing up. He then told me that it was common in the rooms. So I took pics to prove that it was not our fault when the ceiling comes crashing in. Oh yeah and they say they have a game room a fitness center and a laundry room. Well the game room consists of A puzzle (don't know if all pieces are there). The fitness center consists of A treadmill that you need to go to the manager to get the key for it. The laundry room consists of two washers which one is out of order and two dryers. They also have a couple of very old chairs a crappy table with A book on it. On a scale of one to five stars I give it a negitive 5 stars. Will Never Stay There Again. Beware ONLY BOOK A ROOM if it comes down to sleeping on the street and staying here. Oh and they do have a homeless shelter across the street from The Budget Inn Express. Oh and they have people living in the hotel that seem to be crack heads and all kinds of misfits. read more
