We were in town for a cousin's wedding -- and rumor was no expense was too…read moregreat to skim upon, coupled with another cousin's wedding here a decade ago that was held in a 4-H Quonset hut venue... needless to say, to hear the event was in a barn left me underwhelmed. Then we arrived. It was a super cute, and huge, space for such a thing. The property is a state historical site, with the barn dating back to the 1880s, and restoration efforts kicking off in the 1940s when the current owner/family took over the property (the original owner died in the 1890s, so the marker told us, and it fell into stages of disrepair). The wedding and reception were on the main floor, effectively the upper level of a tri-level building (the lower wasn't open to us, and the top level -- presumably for feed at one point -- was only frequented by a few of the groom's buddies, and I wasn't going to venture into such misadventures. The room was spacious, something like 100 feet square, and the entire shindig used maybe half of it. There were provided heaters -- it is a barn, not a banquet hall, and it's November with temps dipping into the low 40s outside -- and plenty of space outside for farm-themed photos. (The bride and groom used them quite a bit, and I shuttled the kid around a bit to try and get some holiday card-worthy photos and avoid the studios... time will tell how well those work out for us.) Central Park it's not, but it's also a far cry from a mere "barn."

The staff made sure we had everything and anything we needed at all times. The food is amazing. The outdoor spaces are breathtaking. If you have the opportunity to visit, take it. May you find as much love and gratitude as I did in this special place with these special people.

They are also pet friendly and the room had space for her crate too. This is a cute mix of hotel and cabin. The ice machine worked great, the room had a coffee pot and flavored creamer cups too. The shower worked well and bed was comfy too. I also walked to dinner nearby, it's off the main road and is super quiet but close enough to fuel/grocery/restaurants and a few casinos. Office staff was friendly and helped me out when the hotel room door locked me out just as I arrived. They have the traditional keys but you have to lock the door by reaching inside when leaving so I think it was left that way by the housekeeping staff or previous guest. Learning curve. Needless to say my pup and I had a great stay here. May be a go to when I'm up this way.

It is extremely small, the shower stall is tiny so if you are a large person it could be a challenge. If management would spend maybe $10 to upgrade the place it would get 5 stars. Put up a couple hooks by the door to hang coats/hats. Put individual bottles of shampoo/conditioner and a bar of soap in the bathroom, not communal large watered down bottles. The sink was by the door in the main room, but needed an extra towel for it. Coffee maker was nice, but had wrong size filter/coffee pack, no stir sticks so we improvised. When we checked in a large dog was at the counter and I wondered if I was actually supposed to register with him. I don't mind dogs, but it would be unprofessional to someone who didn't like animals. The room rate went up $10 in the hour I first looked at the website to when I booked the room, and they do not take cash, even if they already have your credit card number, and I was charged one day early. With some conscious attention to detail this place could be a favorite but it was weirdly a little off in several little bit important ways. I would stay there again, the cottage was charming, but I'll be more prepared next time and bring my own amenities.

We had a speed boat yesterday and we got to witness all kinds of flotation devices, sped boats, pontoons, it was so fun, beautiful and peaceful. It's part of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Some great history and beautiful scenery. I WOULD recommend.

Cons: The boat that is covered gets hot inside, unless there is a cool breeze. If you are in the covered boat and not seated at a window, you will miss the majority of sites that are called out during the narration. Views are very limited. If the boat is full, you can't really walk and hang out on the back of the boat which is open air. The boat moves very slow. Did I mention it gets warm? My advice: if an option, take the open air boat (Sacajawea) where there is no cover (bring sunscreen). Check to see if they rent pontoons or other boats. Just an ok experience and wouldn't do it again.

There were helpful things like chargers and bathroom supplies, but there were also souvenirs like postcards and (very funny) candles. The room was nice, and it had a mini fridge, microwave, and TV. The wifi was consistant in speed, and the bed was pretty comfortable. Overall, it was a great experience. And they had free coffee!
