I'm originally from NY and have been in PA for 20 years. I always joked that I moved from the Hero sandwich district to the Hoagie sandwich district. Oh, how I missed a NY Godfather Hero. A colleague told me about Goomba's. OMG it's heaven. It is a very unassuming place. Actually, more of a small shop. No seating, no AC. Who cares... what you are bringing home makes anything worth it. I have heard that they make amazing pizza but every time I think about trying their pizza I go back to my Ole Italian. I recently had some friends out for a small reunion. I was asked if I would bring Goomba's. Everyone unanimously wanted the same thing! You can't drive north on 309 without stopping. I drove up there from south Jersey just for the spicy garlic parm wings and Sicilian calamari. First I was disappointed with how the kid cooking was treating the counter girl. I've worked in a kitchen for the past 30 years. Zero reason for him to blame the girl because HE didn't read a ticket. The next problem was the calamari. Menu says with garlic, cherry peppers and Kalamata olives. The order I got looked like trash. Calamari all clumped together like to much in the fryer had a bunch of olives barely any garlic and ROASTED RED PEPPERS. Ug I took it back. I didn't drive this far to be so let down. Second order had some cherry peppers minimal olives and barley any garlic calamari was dark as anything. I'm not going back again to have it made a third time that's ridiculous. Disappointed. The frier oil absolutely desperately needs to be changed asap! Major contributor of the dark look of the calamari..... and wings! The "sauced spicy garlic parm" wings.. barely sauced, over cooked dry and all you taste is the burnt nasty frier oil. We did get unsauced wings that were just nasty. Zero flavor other than you guessed it burnt dirty frier oil. I found this place while working up at a summer camp a couple years ago and would live off of this place while up there. I've been craving what I had. Sadly I'm not only out $65, a waste of gas, time and lost respect for this place! Someone needs to sit that kid down and teach him better. His parents probably own the place and that's why he gets away with it. Place looked nice even with all the other bad. Gives you the old school pizza place vibes but that's just it. I used a coupon special on 2 occasions which included wing. They were to dried out to eat. They looked like they were under a heat lamp for hours. Dry and overdone. 2 of the wings were just bones and no meat. Their was not a mix of parts. read more

Decided to order dinner from here the other night and it typically doesn't disappoint. The sandwiches are large and really good. The pizza and hot sandwiches are great too, I really recommend the cheesesteaks! However we decided to try the wings this time around since they are famous for them and were a little disappointed. The wings were small and didn't really have much meat on them. They also didn't really have much of the buffalo sauce on them. Maybe it was just a bad day to get wings? Italian? Who uses bagged lettuce for a real Italian salad at a price of $15.95? Bagged lettuce has an immediate strong stench compared to freshly washed and hand torn lettuce. It was full of romaine spines and no leaves. All had brown streaks in them and were rotten. The antipasto meat and mozzarella cheese was good. Roasted peppers good too. It's a fun and exciting menu in appearance with powerful flavors but I would never order the salads until they are bursting with freshness. Stopped for hoagie and pizza on our way up the road to friends in the area.. The hoagie was not what we expected for an Italian. Whatever crumble cheese they used was not like a traditional provolone seemed more like feta. Then whoever made the pizza it was soggy in the middle and burnt It looked like it stuck and whoever made it peeled it off the oven. Why would you give any customer an undercooked pizza. Seeing the cleanliness or lack there of with this place probably should have walked out but we were in a hurry to meet friends. This place needs a good cleaning and dusting . The plastic signage above the counter looks like it coated in something . Have some pride even if it's a hole in the wall place. We tossed the pizza as it was not edible. Goomba's is like a fat kids wonderland. Their cheesesteaks are definitely the best in the burbs but also rival the top (2) shops in South Philly. I always go Cooper with, it's a perfect combination of beef, salty creamy cheese, sweet onions and a great roll. But the food doesn't stop at the steaks. Great hoagies and pizzas. In fact they have pizzas that are 36"...that's right it's like eating a manhole cover. Absolute gluttony at it's finest. Add a side of scrapple fries and your doctor will hate you, your body will punish you but your taste buds will make it all feel like bliss. This is a cheesesteak that is worth traveling to. After seeing goombas being recommended over and over again on my community Facebook, my family decided to give it a try. We ordered a large cheese pizza, but they were out of large dough. Not a problem, it was for the kids so a small was fine. The pizza was not good. The sauce was reminiscent of chef boyardee spaghetti-o's sauce. The kids didn't mind it but the adults didnt like it. We also got fried pickles. They were just ok, very very fried. We ordered a cheese steak and buffalo chicken cheese steak both were just ok. Lacked flavor. We've had better at other local pizza places including more meat. All in all, it was $60 and not really worth it to us. read more

The food is always great. Love the 30" pizza, love their desserts, strombolis, pastas, sandwiches, gigantic mozzarella sticks. The one guy who regularly delivers is super friendly. From time to time their delivery drivers get backed up, but i try and give grace because I know they are pretty consistent regularly. I highly recommend. read more

My second trip to Goomba's. Rating is 3.5 The cheesesteak was delicious. The pizza was fantastic. Then why only 3.5 stars? The Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO salty. On my first bite I had to spit it out. I'm beginning to realize the inconsistency in their food. On my first trip, same thing, 2 things were great, 1 thing wasn't. Same on this trip. 2 items were totally fine, but the 3rd was a waste of money. If I do return here for future orders, I think I'll stick with the cheesesteak and pizza. read more

Stopped by here to try out the cheesesteaks that I had heard about. OMG, this was one of the best that I've ever had. Got a cheesesteak with extra cheese and it was sublime. Nice roll, with a bit of chew to it, but crispy as well. Flavor was on point. The people inside were really nice and took my order right away, and my sandwich came out super quick. I ordered the Cheesesteak Italiano. The menu says it comes with broccoli rabe & sharp provolone. It comes with broccoli rabe, sharp provolone and a lot of garlic. I repeat (and I did) a lot of garlic. How much Garlic? 2 tums worth. It starts off with a very nice, very edible seeded roll. It has a good amount of good meat but I think it was a touch dry. The broccoli rabe was amazing. I would like the broccoli rabe mixed with the meat. It would have blended their flavors and helped with my dry meat concern. Good cheese. Last visit I never tried the cheesesteak and I'm very pleased to say it was excellent.Packed with meat very flavorful and well seasoned. I added pepperoni, fried onions, provolone and mozzarella cheese and it had ample amounts of all.The roll was very soft and fresh and it held all the meat together as well as the juices were contained. I couldn't just get a cheesesteak without trying a pizza slice. The slices are giant, very tasty even when reheated and the staff here is very friendly. Kudos. read more

I saw a picture of the Italian hoagie on a local fb post asking for hoagie recommendations and knew I had to stop by. They had them premade at the store when I picked up so it was quick! The bread is different from most other hoagies but I actually like it. It's firmer and has sesame seeds. Reminds me of primo hoagies bread. The meat and cheese were definitely aged and more refined than other places so taste was different but I liked it. read more

Goombas used to always be my go to place for a true authentic Italian hoagie, over the last year or so they have cut back the amount of meat in the hoagies, raised the prices, and the last 2x I have gone the lettuce has been brown or almost rotten, what used to be my favorite hoagie is now a no go! Disappointed because you can't find hoagies like that around. The kitchen and lobby just feel and look dirty, nothing has been updated in years, unfortunately no longer a place for us. read more

I ordered delivery trying a slice of pizza and a cheesesteak for the first time. The delivery man was very friendly. That's the best I can say. The pizza was huge as expected, but soggy. Not horrible, but nothing special. A friend of mine RAVED over the cheesesteak. Perhaps, I got mine on a bad day, cause the meat tasted like Steak-Ummm meat, which isn't a compliment. They give you a ton of meat, which is nice, but if it isn't really good... I did something I have never done. I threw out more than half of the sandwich. This spot is located off a big road road very easy to miss. Connected to a beer shop, it feels like a hole in the wall shop, with the interior that looks and smells like a old neighborhood spot that definitely has their regulars. Went and ordered a cheesesteak with American, onions and ketchup with extra meat and cheese. It was huge, messy and fantastic. The seeded roll was great and the meat alone was very juicy and flavorful. It came out to $17.49. I think the price was more than justified when you compare it to what you get in the city nowadays, but I'm racking my brain to figure out how it came out to that price. On their online menu and online ordering apps, it says a cheesesteak is $10, extra meat is $3.75 and extra cheese is $0.75. Total should be $14.50, and with tax, should be about $15.40. I guess the onions and ketchup cost me a few bucks extra? But it is what it is, well worth the price so not a big deal. What I do think is a big deal is the use of mask, or I should say lack of. The cashier straight up didn't have anything on. I get it, you don't want to keep wearing a mask. But when you're handling my food, I'm now involved. The workers in the back all seemed to be wearing it, but like a lot of other places during this pandemic, a lot of half assed mask wearing (halfway, not covering nose, etc). Whether these guys feel like it's not serious enough, they think covid is a hoax, or they are very anti mask, I'll be second guessing my next visit.
