As an avid thrifter I was very excited to visit this Goodwill - it's in an affluent area and receives many donations. it was a sad depressing mess of a store. clothes on the floors, clothes piled on top of other things, clothes unorganized and mixed sizes and types all over the place. shoes in cubbies by color but not size. the front end was a mess and staff seemed to not give a darn when they walked by merchandise on the floor. the people who donate deserve better as do the people who shop. it needs an overhaul. read more

This place is like any other Goodwill you have to go there often to find things. And be able to spend a little time looking things over and digging to find something that you would want to buy. But the service is friendly and you have to look for stuff that's tagged with the color of the day so that you get a 50% discount. However, if you find something that you want, I wouldn't leave it if it didn't have the color of the day because you may not find it when you come back. The service is pretty quick and friendly and they have a rewards program so that you can earn discounts. All you have to do is give your phone number. read more

This is by far the worst Goodwill I have been to. Everything is just straight up junk & I tend to expect that walking into any Goodwill, but when they are selling junk for $50+ that's when I have a problem. Saw a DIRTY rug being sold for $120 & an IKEA chair that originally goes for $50 being sold for $80, I had to walk out the store. This location is also extremely small & customers and staff just push right past you without an "Excuse me" or simply acknowledging your presence. 0/5 this Goodwill is a joke. read more

This one has a less-than-thrilling selection (unless you're really into Talbots; almost zero vintage pieces) but the most overpriced pieces I've ever seen. Why is the Zara jacket $35?? This is a fun store to search through and I am so happy with my few purchases - vintage ceramic pitcher, square ceramic dinner plate and box of new wine glasses. Will be going back. Do not go here to shop. Everything is overpriced and damaged. They are selling old, crusty, pilling sweaters for $35 because they have a designer name. Older style clearly used Chanel pumps - $250. Who do they think they are? A consignment store? They try and trick you with the 50% off but they change the tags. I found shoes with both a green and red tag with different prices. Where do all of these items go when they don't sell?! There are plenty of other great thrift stores in the state - avoid this one. read more

Shame about the rap this place is getting for being in Westport. Personally, I'm really not too impressed with the prospect of getting to look through last year's yacht wear or whatever other garbage these one percent pricks are supposed be donating here. In fact, driving through towns like Darien and Westport on the way up here (some of the most boring-looking bougie hell holes I've ever seen), I remember thinking that there's surely nothing these miserable Stepford wives and two-bit hedge fund crooks could possibly have that I'd want. However, when I checked out the Goodwill, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it was a little more spruced up than your average Goodwill or Salvation Army, but nothing crazy. They actually had a really good selection of books and men's clothing and it wasn't a bunch of fancy prep school bullshit either. I actually scored a pretty weird-looking blue and white cardigan sweater with zig zags and elbow pads. Now sure, it smelled kinda newish and all, and some rich prick probably wore it out for a lobster dinner after the regatta last summer, but you know what? I ain't Che Guevara. If it looks stupid and doesn't quite fit me right AND its under five dollars, you better believe I'm gonna buy it. And when I'm out getting smashed on Johnny Bootleggers and nuking my bridges with people, I won't give two shits about the prep school putz whose ugly sweater I'm wearing. Anyway, overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this Goodwill. I would say try not to pay attention to the fact that its located in a wealthy community. You can still find some interesting items here, and if they are too clean or new, you can always rip them up a little bit and stick 'em in the bottom of a wet garbage bag for a year or so. I came to this good will a few days ago looking for a desk and had a really great experience. When we walked in we were greeted at the door, then we found a great desk for only 35 dollars, solid wood! They told us to pull around back and the loaded it into our car within two minutes! The best part about thrift and consignment shops in ritzy, affluent towns (like, ahem, Westport) is simple: good designers, low prices. I read that this Goodwill location recently moved from a smaller location just down the street (still on the post road) and this new space is enormous and surprisingly organized. Thrifty gal that I am, I had an absolute field day. Bought a few summer dresses, some Cole Haan shoes, and a set of NICE (and unopened) wine glasses (i break a lot, ok), spending a grand total of $50. Shame I live an hour and a half away or I'd make this a regular haunt. I love sifting around for bargains - neatly prepared outfits on boutique mannequins got nothin' on this! Oh my god the prices! Just like all goodwill stores, it has its ups and downs in inventory. This specific location is so overpriced, its embarrassing. I'm not sure they have a clue about price worth. Every price seems to be made up and stamped with multiple stickers. advice- If it looks old, it doesn't mean its $75 If it looks silver, it doesn't mean it actually is......... silver is also a color. Don't let the poor reviews fool you. This is a Goodwill thrift store that happens to be in its own brand new building - yes, this is unusual for anything thrifty in nature. Yes, it has walnut-look laminate flooring and corrugated plastic signs hanging on strings to let you know what department is where. Is there some unwritten rule that dictates thrift stores must be shoehorned into poorly lit basements or musty shacks? This store is getting plenty of unwarranted criticism from both ends of the spectrum, unfortunately. On one hand, you have people complaining about their pricing. New building aside, this is still a non-profit thrift store. They do have a few clothing items with prices that seem out of place in a thrift store, but the truth is that a shirt at Mitchells of Westport can cost several hundred dollars. To find one here (and on my last visit, I saw several) marked $35 is not difficult to understand. Would I pay that? Absolutely not - but it's still a fraction of its original cost. (I do think the DVDs should be less than $6, however). On the other hand, you have blatant elitism from the likes of Tina Dragone - who runs an eponymous dress shop - with embarrassing, boycott-worthy comments regarding the construction and relocation of this Goodwill: "I run a very upscale, fine women's clothing store. To have this kind of element coming into our neighborhood is ludicrous. And we are really afraid. They hire ex-convicts ... And I don't think this is right for the town of Westport. I think we can do better." Good will toward Goodwill seems quite scarce. Well, I like it. And compared to the previous store, there are two HUGE improvements. One is the new parking situation (vastly improved from the old lot with its dozen spaces and an supremely idiotic pattern that forced those unable to grab a spot to turn left onto Post Road East to try again). The other is the distinct lack of that sad, heavy "thrift store" smell. Thanks largely in part to being new, the store has no discernible smell at all. That alone is something to appreciate. I recently obtained a funky John Varvatos shirt - dry-cleaner tags still attached! - for $5.99. Yeah, that's about 97% off retail. Other deals can be had as well. It's really a matter of visiting often to check out the ever-changing inventory. There might be a deal, there might not be. I'm certain that dresses from Tina Dragone wind up here, too. I was so looking forward to the almost one hour trip to this very upscale Goodwill. It is very overpriced. Ann Taylor used pants for $15.00, mens lauren dress shirts for $20 and up... Not too bad if you want to keep the items for yourself but if you want to resell just to make ends meet then I would go elsewhere. It is very clean and has no odors, unlike other goodwill stores. Dressing room waits can be 1/2 hour or longer as there were only three ladies dressing rooms. read more

This is a great location for clothes. This is not a good store if you're an online reseller, but great if shopping for yourself. The employees are so helpful and friendly. Yes it's much more expensive than other Goodwill and thrift shops. However they have much better items. The prices don't seem to make any sense sometimes. Really beat up Jimmy Choo shoes were $45 and they were beat to hell, and beat up handbags with missing zipper pulls and stains and dirty lining $25-35. That's a lot for a thrift store.. but if you really spend time looking through you can find great stuff. Especially dresses and tops, stuff from Anthropologie for $15. $15 is high for Goodwill but cheap for Anthropologie so I'll stick with Goodwill. read more

I am so surprised of the bad reviews of the store after its moved to the new location! Yes, are some items "expensive"? Maybe, but a great deal cheaper than you will find at any store around... my god people, do you understand this store sells Armani, Gucci, Mitchells??? Until recently, I was a buyer and donor at this Goodwill in Westport. I've recently learned that representatives from a local auction house come early every morning to take their pick of items before other shoppers have a chance to see them. I don't know what their financial arrangement is, but the quality of artwork and housewares has gone noticeably downhill at this Goodwill. It was, until recently, a great place to hunt for treasures. Now we get only what these dealers have rejected. So disappointing. I will no longer shop there and certainly won't be donating there. I've made sure others know the deal too. read more

Goodwill of Westport has been going downhill for 2 years. Their new store finally triggered me to review. Let's start w/ their prices. Everything is marked up twice as much as any other GW location. Much of their electronics and household goods are MORE than the item brand new. Management relies on the 50% stickers to encourage sale and let me tell you, almost everything sits until it is on sale. Lastly, nothing is priced consistently. There can be two identical items next to eachother with two very different prices. Their staff? Often rude and will have vulgar conversations with eachother. "Their fuc%ing crazy if they think I'm working on Saturday" was the last thing I heard. I go to Bridgeport GW and they greet you when you walk in. Completely different attitude. Another thing- they don't give a $hit about their product. I donated a DVD player about a month ago. When I saw it on the floor, it was badly scratched, missing the remote and (not surprising) overpriced for the device in it's original condition- let alone after they badly damaged it. It is quite obvious noone cares. Their ethics. Go there to feel good about yourself? I don't. Do a search on Goodwill Industries and ethical dilemmas. Sure there is no owner but their CEO and president are grossly capitalizing on us donating goods. Don't care? Maybe you care that half the stuff you will donate to your local community's GW are sold online at shopgoodwill.com where they put items up for auction. Their new location in Westport. Those prices you paid to help the community and people in need- look where it went. Huge new building, walnut hardwood floors, overhangs devide section like in Whole Foods or larger Starbucks. The prices are even higher at the new store which is flooded with Target items. I would not be surprised if GW stopped taking donations at some point to only resell odd-lot items and styles, damaged goods, etc from retail outlets. The new store was flooded with all of the above- from rude staff to overpriced and damaged product. It's a little sickening. So we donate goods to our community, their ill-managed staff likely damages them before they go on the floor to become over-priced. Or the donated good does not go to your community but their online auction site. Their profit goes to grow the store and brand to form better relationships with retail outlets so they can resell broken floor items to unsuspecting residents who think they are supporting their community. And that's the Westport GW experience in a nutshell. read more

Prices just seem to be a tad bit out of control for some things. A lot of brand name clothes but even the very used items have prices that I can find at Marshall's. Last trip I found some great items for my infant son, most of then unused with tags still on, but prices were the same to exact as what Marshall's or TJ Maxx or Carter's sells them brand new. Purchase a few things since I made the trip, then the next week found same pack of onesies and sweater at Carter's for cheaper than goodwill! read more

Way way over priced. Children's books $2 each. Broken housewares $5 and up. A no-name vintage coat with missing button $50. Yes you will find designer items but not in great condition. I found a Anthropologie skirt for $14.99 but put it back because the zipper was broken. But broken zipper or not that is way too much to pay for used clothing. This place makes me appreciate the Goodwills in Manhattan which have better quality designer items for less. read more

Like Allix says, this Goodwill is truly a haven for those of us who are a bit frugal. I've never been in a Goodwill that carried such high quality items. We didn't dig into the clothes area, so I cannot comment on that, but in the books and movies section, we hit the jackpot. Great items for an unbelievably low price. We left Goodwill with over a half dozen bags filled to the brims, all at a cost of only a hundred dollars. If you like consignment or thrift stores, this is a must see. read more

This Goodwill is not your average thrift shop - this is pretty much about as classy as a thrift store can get (especially considering that this is Goodwill we're talking about) while still being just short of becoming more of a vintage/consignment boutique-type of shop. The building is huge, new, organized, and clean - a rare combination for secondhand shops. You'll find more designer goods here than at the Norwalk one, but in exchange for a higher average price point. Even though things here are more expensive than your average thrift store prices, I've still come away with some great pieces (purses, clothes, decor, etc) at prices that still made them worthwhile purchases. As long as you know what you're getting into and set expectations before coming in, you'll have a splendid time picking through Westport stuff at this Goodwill. read more

There's some serious shenanigans up in here. I was in the area and went out of my way to this location just to see what all the reviews were saying about it being uh-hem, crazily priced. I applaud the organization of the shoes department, each pair had its own little cubby. I was less than impressed with the clothing selection. A ton of winter wear and like (it's spring). There is a sign that says 3.99 and up. Yeah, didn't see anything under $9.99. I bought a couple of books that were overpriced. $8 for a textbook, really? I did find a pair of awesome leggings I think are lululemon, but someone took the tag out. They were $6, So I'm happy. Knick-knacks and picture frame/art was seriously double or triple what it would cost at a normal thrift store (not the one in Norwalk, they're expensive too). read more

This is a good spot. The merchandise is tip top, the discards of an extremely wealthy community that doesn't always take the time to figure out what's what before dumping the whole lot at goodwill! There are reasons that the parking lot is full and prices are higher than other thrift shops. This is a great Goodwill with excellent stock including beaucoup treasures. I've bought French cookware, a winter coat from Harrod's, excellent chenille scarves, new issue Xbox games, a couple cool antiques etc. etc. Westport Goodwill is different from other Goodwills, which some reviewers find offensive but I find admirable. read more

There is something kind of skanky about this place. I have been going rather regularly for the past couple of years and have noticed quite a difference in the prices and way they do business. As another reviewer mentioned-the seconds the average public gets to go through vs the dealers which may have early access. Yesterday I went and asked to see some USED Chanel flats in a case. Trying to get someone who would unlock the case took awhile-no one would help until I had to track down an employee who was chatting up a lady. The price of the shoes = 250.00 dollars a pair. SRSLY? Where is that money really going if this is indeed the price you are charging? All the prices are high for used clothes. Is someone skimming off the top? This is a used clothing store that sticks out like a sore thumb amongst all the old school thrift shops where money goes to charity, where prices are reasonable and the selection is great. Started coming here a few months ago since I work right down the street. Found and purchased a few good items but WAY overpriced. The managers who determine the prices should research more before tagging/pricing the items. For example: Target products priced just around what you would find at an actual Target store, FAKE designer bags priced just around or the same as the real designer bags....I (mistakenly-my fault) purchased a fake Louis Vuitton wallet for $45 (that was in one of those cases where they keep the pricey AUTHENTIC items). I do have to say the actual furniture here are priced pretty well (dressers, chairs) Just keep in mind these clothes and products, mostly if not all, have been used and worn before---many things should not be at the price they are. Even though the store is really nice inside the clothing options, mainly regarding mens clothing, are very limited. The mens clothing in this store is more aimed for people who are older, which would actually match the demographic where this store is located. If you're looking for "trendy thrift store" type finds this store may not be for you. They have basically 6 types of mens clothing: dress shirts, dress pants, collared shirts, a nice sweater here and there, and jackets (which are actually very nice). Also, due to this goodwill being in Westport you can expect things to be quite pricey, however that should be expected. read more

I had a great experience at this goodwill location. I got an $80 discontinued adidas pullover hoodie for $5.99, along with other name brand shirts from brands like J-Crew for very cheap prices. The clothes were organized by size and color. The staff was wonderful and even walked me through setting up a rewards card. read more
