I've always been hesitant coming to the goodwill because it feels like it's never kept clean or organized. However, I've been pleasantly surprised the last couple visits. I don't know if someone new is running the place but all the employees are busy cleaning around and bringing fresh inventory to the floor. It's always exciting to see all the treasures you can find. Some are priced high but if you look around you can find hidden gems for a bargain. Kudos to Aidan who is by far the friendliest, helpful and nicest guy helping you check out. GETTING HERE: This Goodwill location is located in the old Ralph's shopping center on Telephone/Petit in Ventura. (A Grocery Outlet now stands there). If you see the Chevron station you're in the right place. Goodwill is just a stone's throw from the grocery store. REVIEW: To be honest, I frequent Goodwill stores for their books as I proudly am a book hoarder. :) They have one of the larger selections of books I have seen, and I may have even reshelved and organized their books on more than one occasion. The employees have been polite and friendly each time I have been here, and the entire atmosphere of this Goodwill is leaps and bounds better than others in the county. They have a huge selection of clothes too, and they are spread out and organized well. I probably visit this location a few times a month and their inventory is rotated or updated too, which I appreciate. What with the state of the economy as it presently is, why not support local. Would very much recommend giving this Goodwill a good look through to see if you can find some hidden gems. :) read more

Regular shopper here. Love the OG employees but starting to hate the markup on prices of donated FREE items given to thrifts. I could go buy new items from the store they come from almost the same prices on some things. This is noticed in all goodwill stores in our area. Sad read more

Got accused of replacing prices tags, went all the way to get a "price check" & raised the price $3, Didn't buy that. Bought a $1 thing, gave the lady a $5, then she says "you gave me $1 bill right?" Honestly I really felt discriminated and f*ed with on purpose today by the staff. Been coming for years but will never return to this store ever again after today. They hate resellers like me and the shelves are a disaster with way overpriced junk items. Wash your hands after visiting here. read more

I'm all about making a profit. But whoever is doing the pricing here has lost their mind. A while ago I asked the sweet boy at the register if a vintage vase was priced wrong and some hag monster came running out of the back screaming at him that that was the price she found online. Okay, Goodwill hag monster. The price found online is curated by people who buy these pieces and resell them. Goodwill runs on donations. FREE merchandise that goes out to the consumer for an outrageous price. I went today and found a medium sized pot with a fake flower arrangement stuck in it for $24.99! . (Sorry, I covered up the price to see if my friend could guess anywhere near the price, she couldn't) And two old 49er buckets from Lowes for 17.99 EACH!!!!! For a bucket!!! That holds dirt!! Each!!!!! This isn't Etsy! This is a run by donation store where the consumer does most of the work. Please get your pricing together, Goodwill. This isn't West Elm. I would give NEGATIVE STARS if I could. The manager (Aleesa) is very confrontational, uncivil, and racist. I have been told I am no longer allowed in the store literally because I spoke back to her when she was putting the things in my cart away after I turned my back for less than a minute. She claims it is HER STORE. This is a very long story short but ... I will be filing a complaint with corporate. She got about 2 inches from my face and was rude as all get out --- that is NOT how a manager is to behave, I don't care if it is Goodwill. read more

Did you Know? GOODWILL Is a for Profit Business not really a charity They hardly ever even check to ensure the items they are reselling work properly or are even boxed correctly. If you buy an electronic item and it doesn't work you may return it but only for store credit. You are responsible to make sure it works properly; it has all cords and equipment that came with the original item and that are required to make it work. If for some reason the item is in a sealed box, they ask you not to open it, but if you get home and what is advertised is not in the box, they say we are selling thrift store items what do you expect. So if you plan to buy anything in this store, Make sure it works, have the person who is ringing your purchase up open all boxes to make sure you are getting what you think you are and also remember this is not a charity they want you to believe ity is, but this company is a for profit business and they are using the assumption that they are a charity to receive donations for free items that they then mark up to ANY PRICE THEY DECIDE AT THAT MOMENT to sell to you. They do not stand behind their items they sell, and will only give you store credit on ELECTRONIC ITEMS. If like me you buy a box of three vacuum storage bags that is sealed and you get home to find out that inside that sealed box is only 2 storage bags, they will not let you return the item, nor will they give you a partial refund because they then say you are buying second hand items you should have had the checker open the box for you prior to purchase. Mind you they will not volunteer to do this you must ask them. Also the employees do not know that much about the things that they are selling, so if you do buy anything make sure you know what the item is and what it needs to operate because quite often there are cords missing and the store doesn't care if this is the case you are the person that is in the end the one responsible for what you purchase. absolutely feel like home when I come to this store. by far the best customer service among the rest i encounter monthly (Oxnard's , SP, other 2 VTA locations , Camarillo) the employees are friendly and just hard working , good humans. the store is clean and organized. , even the donation center in the back, friendly employees. - this is my favorite GO TO LOCAL GOODWILL. - always friendly , feels like what the bar ON CHEERS might be lol. love all the employees. the two young men who work up front are very friendly. I once may have referrd to one as "Mormon nice " - superrrr nice haha and I appreciate leaving my house to get away and breathe and just do my own thing - definitely therapeutic! thanks ! read more

This goodwill is the worst, when you come to drop off donations they don't even acknowledge that you are there to drop off donations. Due to this you have to go find someone to give you a receipt and then they just had you a blank receipt with no writing on it so it's basically useless. If I could give 0 stars I would, Goodwill needs to close this location or actually train their employees read more

I love the inside of the store but donating here is always difficult and today was the last straw for me. There is a very large ramp that you have to walk up and when you have a lot of stuff it can be hard... they always make you open your bags and sort the items for them... isn't that their job? I have tolerated it because I'm young and able. But after having to step in and help a young lady who was on crutches bring her stuff up the ramp while the employee watched, I have had enough. When I asked if he would help he said he can't go into people cars and grab things.... Totally get that but if I'm willing to take it out of the car and put it at the bottom of the ramp you still can't help? Have some human decency! read more

Very organized, spacious and large variety of items. From clothing, household items to furniture. For those hunting for specific items.

My family and I usually visit the Thompson location. The telephone location is just as big if not a bit bigger. It hasn't been fully discovered yet so they have a big selection right now. A few employees from the Thompson location work here now so it's nice to see some familiar faces. The store is well kept and the help much appreciated. Plenty of parking spaces, better to go early in the day. The store is a month old and today was our first visit. so I can't 5 star this location just yet read more

Two enthusiastic thumbs down for goodwill of Ventura County. Before purchasing my mini trampoline (which was unassembled in a box) I ask the person at the counter if all the pieces aren't there can I return it? She replied "sure we will give you your money back if its not all there, we check out everything we sell." Well one day later I learned not all the parts were there so I return to the store. Guess what? The first cashier lied. They were not going to give me my money back only a store credit. This was EXCEPTIONALLY poor customer service. They sold a broken product. Lied to me and then forced me to accept their lousy return policy. I don't know why Goodwill in other places is great and the ventura county stores are so bad. Purchase at your own risk! read more

Very disappointing to find dollar store items marked up to $1.99!!!! Shame....thought this was "Goodwill".

This Goodwill is pretty out of my way, but I sometimes find good stuff in there. I purchased some shoes the other day, and when I got home I realized that they had "W" next to the size - wide. I wore them around my house to see if they would be okay, and they weren't. I called this location yesterday morning and spoke with a male employee. I asked "Does your return policy include shoes?" He said yes. I then asked again if shoes were okay, and he said "As long as you have your receipt, it's fine." I get to the location, which is 30 minutes out of my way, and am immediately told that there is no return on shoes. I explained that their employee told me over the phone that it was, and the manager Heidi (?) came over. Her excuse was "Oh, he's new. We can't accept them." No apologies whatsoever from her. If it was your employee, and he is giving out false information over the phone, maybe you should right his wrong by letting me return the shoes for store credit. She did allow me to switch my shoes for a pair of lesser or equal value, but all of the shoes were in horrible condition. Definitely won't be coming back. read more
