I've shopped here three times, and every time I've found at least one item that I thought was good…read morequality, useful, and well priced. Yesterday I found a merino wool/silk pashmina shawl for $4.95. It was marked "Vintage," even though these shawls are still in production. But the marking suggested that whoever priced it recognized that it was something special. There are lots of employees working hard to stock and tidy the store. They are polite and helpful when asked a question. It is a large store, with mostly clothing, shoes, purses, and linens, plus a smaller selection of appliances and other hard goods. There is no furniture. I like their colored-tag system, where each item gets a colored tag and merchandise with the oldest tag color is discounted. They also have a "Best" area with designer labels. A lot of the items I looked at were priced around $20, although some were higher--for example, I saw a Johnny Was jacket for $69. My main criticism is the amount of stained clothing that is priced quite high. I think this is something management should take a look at. Most people don't want to bargain at the register, so those stained, overpriced items just sit there. The result is that the clothing racks are very full, which makes it harder to sort through them and see what is actually worth buying. For people who are complaining about thrift-store prices, I do understand why prices have gone up. Thrifting has become much more popular, we're dealing with inflation, and minimum wage is now $16.90 an hour. I don't object to paying a fair price for something genuinely desirable. But I do agree that it is disappointing to find high prices on damaged merchandise, and it makes it harder to find things you would actually consider buying. And part of the fun of thrifting, at least for those of us who do it as a pastime, is finding a bargain. Current pricing strategies at many thrift stores are making that harder and less fun. I think thrift stores need to have some true bargains for people to discover. That's what keeps the hunt interesting. I volunteered at another thrift store, the Bargain Box, for 10 years, so I have some experience with this. Our general policy was that an item in perfect but used condition was priced at around one-third of the new price. Dated clothing was priced lower. Stained items or things with missing parts were sent to another thrift store, sold to a recycler, or discarded if they were hard goods. That approach kept the inventory moving at a reasonable rate. For vintage or designer items, we would look them up on online resale sites such as Etsy, eBay, ThredUp, or Poshmark, find several comparable prices, and then price the item below the lowest price we found. Often we priced it a little lower than that because a brick-and-mortar thrift store with limited foot traffic doesn't have the same customer base as an online reseller. I'll definitely be back to the Arc Foundation store. I've already found some good things there, and I'm hoping to find more.

I'm a sucker for home decor and honestly Home Goods always comes in clutch when I'm looking for a more personalized gift. This location is always well stocked and never empty. They have a good assortment and I can usually find coveted special items here that are poplar on Tik tok and such. Not always, but a good amount of the time. This isn't the biggest home goods in the 805 but it'll do. I wish the isles were a little bigger as it can sometimes be hard to navigate this store during high traffic hours BUT I'd rather have more merchandise than larger walking spaces so I make it work. Little random things that do matter are that their bathrooms are clean and they have a large shared parking lot. I tried on some jeans, and one of the younger, trendier workers that was assisting near the dressing rooms, I think her name was Robin, totally helped me style them. She was so amazing! The prices are somewhat fair, similar to goodwill, some exceeding depending on the brand, but cheaper than a designer consignment store. All of the clothes are donated, and what's even cooler is that all of the workers are volunteers. This one in Thousand Oaks has the most wonderful community of older women who use their time to give back to the community. They're all so nice and kind, and are always up for a conversation. Additionally, they have jewelry, accessories, houseware, and trinkets. The hours are a bit tricky, but it's worth checking out if you are free.

After I moved they upscaled their location over to Ventura Blvd. off Las Posas in the big plaza there. They're in between HomeGoods and The Home Depot on the western end of the shopping area. Often when Dear Hubby and I go over to Ventura for the afternoon, I'll plan to stop at this Michael's on the way back home. It's a convenient location with lots of free parking. Over the years, they've stepped up the merchandising layout of the store. I can easily be enticed by the seasonal items they stock, as those seem to get cuter each year. The yarn department can be hit or miss still. Am hoping that they will get one of the newer yarn / fabric departments which are arising out of the purchase of Joann's labels for yarn, especially. Our Sweet Granddaughter influences me to stay interested in crafting, including jewelry making, which she loves. She wants me to teach her how to crochet, which I will gladly do when her hands get a little bigger. She's just turning 6, so it may be a bit too soon and lead to frustration instead of joy. We'll get there, though. Last time I stopped in, most of what I bought was to work on making friendship bracelets with SG. It's helpful to be signed up for Michael's rewards program, as that usually provides extra discounts when it's time to cash out. They run good sales throughout the seasons, so you can usually get a good price on whatever items you're seeking. In my creative shopping Joann's was #1 and Michael's #2. Now that Joann's is gone, Michael's moves into the #1 spot.
