For a Goodwill in an amazing town like Hoffman Estates, I really expected so much more from this Goodwill and have some incredible finds but unfortunately you will not really find that here at all. Plenty of your usual odds and ends. They did have a decent men's selection of clothing here but no other accessories like hats or belts. Fitting rooms were okay too and check out lines weren't too bad. Overall, wasn't really worth checking out. read more

I bought a water cleaner from goodwill and when I opened it at home. Someone wrote on the product that it was old and didn't work anymore. And the box was already opened. It was taped shut by the employees. So I went back to return it. The manager, Jessica. Didn't want to return my money. After I told her why I was returning it. She said was my fault for not checking earlier. No store credit refund or cash refund. Don't go here, they won't refund anything and they'll take your money. read more

if I could give this location no stars I would. The girl who came for back up at the register has the worst attitude I have seen in a long time. When I got to her lane I handed her the hangers not only did she have an attitude but told me don't throw stuff on the on counter for her to scan? Guess she wanted to get it for free? I was only setting stuff down. As a customer service manager myself, I would NEVER let one of my team members talk to a customer the way she did. Her name is Sam. She did not even ask for a phone number to put in for points. When my mother asked about putting her number, Sam responded you didn't tell me that! When that is a part of her job. She has time to gossip with other coworkers and stop our transaction to call a manager for another customer while the other cashier had no customers.My mother and I are avid good will shoppers. My 72 year old father purchased an entertainment center there this evening. I was with him when he made the purchase but he had to get the minivan from home and come back for the actual pick up. I almost didnt accompany him on the pick up but decided to last min. The employees, who were two very young able bodied males brought the entertainment center out to the side walk and when my father asked for their assistance getting it his car, the simply replied, "we can't,sorry." Goodwill my ass. Thats just bad manners. What happened to helping elderly people? Why do they call themselves Goodwill? They did abosolutely no good will this evening. I am no sociologist, but I think one of the best ways to get the pulse of a new community when you just move in is to pay a visit to the local thrift stores. I have another theory about the contents of people's kitchen "junk drawer" but I will deal with that on my blog. I noticed this place the other day when I was stopping by Mariano's so I decided today would be the day to check it out. It's is actually fairly small compared to other thrift stores in large metros I have visited, but it was relatively well organized. I get the impression the employees here are just that, actual employees. I have visited other thrift stores in the past where the people working were ex-cons or others doing community service from a tangle with the law. Having people ring me up that are not zonked out of their head from sniffing glue on their lunch break is always beneficial to a positive shopping experience. Like any thrift store, there is often gold to be found, you just have to wade through copious amounts of trash in order to find it. The furniture they had on showcase, for example, looked like it had just been plucked out of a refugee camp in some war torn part of Africa. The junkyard would of been a better place for a good 80% of it. Luckily, patience and persistence paid off as I did manage to find a few great items. The first was a really nice Kenneth Cole messenger bag (see photo). It was buried under lots of circa 1985 pieces of luggage, but it was a nice score. I have actually been needing one recently too. I am getting a little old to be hauling around a Call of Duty messenger bag to the office. The other two items were both slacks, and both from Hugo Boss and still had the tags on them! (Sorry, no pic, I am not modeling them for you). They were also buried in the stacks amidst items that looked like they were from the wardrobe department of a 1970's porn movie. If you have the patience, you can find some great items here, or maybe I just got lucky on my particular visit. The grand total for my little voyage? 17 bucks. I would call that a successful thrift store outing. read more

When the second person came out my son and myself went in , the manager was very a upset with us because she thinks we did not follow the rules . She was very Rude with us telling us bad comments . This store has some great stuff, however I was so disappointed to see someone is writing the prices on many items in permanent marker, completely ruining them. I was about to buy some awesome patio chairs until I saw the massive "$12.99" written across the front of them in permanent ink. That's not scrubbing off. I am an avid goodwill shopper but lately goodwill has been upsetting me with crazy prices for things. Today I found a metal tub they wanted $10 for, I could easily get it new at Walmart for that price. What really prompts the one star is that the customer service was horrible. I went to check out and one of my items had two stickers on top of each other. I had not noticed this when I grabbed it but the cashier carefully peeled off the $3.99 sticker to tell me that was wrong and the actual price was $6.99. Asked me if I still wanted it and when I said "but the price said $3.99" she just took and it put it in a bin under the table and ignored me. I told her I didn't want any of my items anymore and left. read more

I am beyond disappointed with this location and some of its employees. I bought a small accent lamp with a shade. The shade was marked 2.99 and I saw no additional pricing. When I got home I realized I was charged 6.99 so the next day I returned with the receipt and the lamp. The first woman at the counter told me that in order for the lamp to ring up for that amount it had to be scanned from a label. She motioned another woman in checkout to come over as she is the one who had checked me out. She too confirmed that she scanned the lamp from a label and by now it was apparent to me that they thought I was trying to pull a fast one. I was like all I am looking for is a refund for the difference of 4.99. Now they page the manager and her name is Kathy. Meanwhile the woman who checked me out the day before was standing behind her register, shaking her head as if to further humiliate me. How unprofessional and demeaning can you get? The manager is telling me that the 2.99 was for the lamp shade only and that lamps and shades are sold separately. And besides the shade doesn't fit this lamp. I told her the shade which looks good to me was on the lamp when I took it to the checkout. And I didn't know shades were sold separetely. I now have the manager and 2 checkout people insisting that there was a label on the lamp in order for it to have been scanned for the higher amount. Meanwhile there is a line behind me of customers waiting to check out but they are all listening to me getting my ass handed to me from 3 Goodwill employees. At this point I asked them all exactly what were they accusing me of? And perhaps this was something that I needed to take up in a phone call. Suddenly, and trust me when I say this, the checkout woman was visibly unhappy that she was told to issue me not only a full return but I was also told to keep the lamp. I cannot explain nor should I have to why the lamp scanned a higher amount. Perhaps human error? Perhaps the label fell off? I don't know. I can only comment that for 4.99 no person should ever have to be humiliated like that. Perhaps the employees need to remember what Goodwill to others actually means! read more

Very clean store, which is known to be the case of Goodwill stores in the Chicago-land area. Items categorized by size and color, so not hard to find what you're looking for. Pricing is a bit higher than other thrift stores in the area, especially when you factor in color-of-the-week and other bargains. Saw a faux fur for $49.99 which is EXTREMELY high. Not too much on the designer front, but if you're looking for brands like J. Crew, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, this is definitely the place to go. read more

Went there shortly after the Hoffman Estates location opened. It was packed with merchandise to choose from. I selected a modern floor lamp still in the box for what I thought was a good price. Took it home, put it together and it looked great. BUT then I decided to look online for retail price and reviews and found that Target was selling it, however reviews and reports of sparks and fires were found online. How could this lamp not have been recalled? I did find another model by same company that had been recalled. Took it apart, printed out reviews including 2 reporting sparks and back to the store it went. Although polite about my return they would not give me a refund, only store credit which is their standard policy. read more

Just got out from this Goodwill location.Their prices are so high for some used faded & stained clothes. $14.99 for a dress ,$9.99 for a blouse and I saw an old Chico's blouse prices for $24.99 USED with some stains on it. I make a quick U Turn and get the heck out of there.
