First, when the lid of a little box fell, one of the ladies basically ripped the item from our 7 yr old. She was perfectly behaved, and monitored, but when she picked up the box to BUY IT, the improperly taped lid fell off. We let the lady know that we were in charge of the situation. Everything was OK, but she stood around and glared at us. Our little girl was made so uncomfortable that she didn't want the box anymore. We looked around some more, and while I was in the furniture section, I overheard the two ladies behind the counter mentioning how they normally always have to watch the darker skinned people. I had to do a double take to make sure I heard them correctly. Obviously my whiteness was not a threat for them. Not only were they very rude, they were also obviously profiling both my friend, and the other colored ladies that were in the store. We immediately put down anything we were going to purchase and left the store. The only reason I did not confront the ladies right then and there is because we had a child with us. My friend, who is Latina, told me later in the parking lot that while I was looking at things with her little granddaughter, she was on the other side of the store, and that one of the staffers was following her around the whole time. I ended up spending $71 on two North Face backpacks, and unfortunately, that wasn't even the worst part. On the way home, I noticed a strong, unpleasant odor coming from the backpacks. Once I got home and opened them up further to inspect the inside, I was disgusted to find what appeared to be actual black mold growing inside both bags. Items in this condition should NEVER have been put out on the sales floor, especially at the prices being charged. Mold isn't just a stain or normal wear--it's a serious cleanliness concern, and customers should be able to expect that items being sold have at least been properly inspected. I spent $71 on two backpacks that I ultimately felt I had to throw away. That is incredibly frustrating and such a waste of money. For a thrift store charging these kinds of prices, there absolutely needs to be better quality control and inspection of donated items before they're sold. Very disappointing experience, and I would strongly recommend thoroughly inspecting anything you purchase here, especially bags, clothing, or other fabric items.

Love this Goodwill location, tucked away on Alta Arden, not far from the mall. I wasn't paying attention to the sales color for the month, but an employee shared with me which was helpful. The donation process is seamless; donors drive thru, staff retrieves the items and receipt of donation is offered.

Generally quality items, mostly very good condition and the shoes were quality brands. Lots of stuff from the 80s (especially clothing) gave me flashbacks. Overeager workers/volunteers. I really like to be left alone when I shop. When I decided I'd hand them my items while I checked out the shoes (good condition, many like new, though spendy $35+), they wanted my name - no thanks. Place isn't large nor are the racks or shelves crowded. Parking along the side (coming from I-80, enter parking lot just before the store) and in back. Exit is on the other side of the store. Donations - go around back. Limited hours it seems. The Yelp page says the proceeds all go to help the local community. I'm always skeptical of claims but I'll choose to believe it and I'm glad this clean, tidy thrift shop with a clean parking lot has a generous positive mission (unlike the unscrupulous "GW"). I might swing by again in the future, if it's convenient. Definitely would prefer to be coming from I-80 instead of making another awkward u-turn coming from El Camino Avenue.
