I know Niagara Falls is basically a tourist trap, but it does have one redeemable quality, it's…read moreValue Village. First off, it's huge. It's filled with tons of stuff, but mostly clothes. Oh, and a great selection of shoes. Now I know shoes can seem a little daunting second hand, but a lot of the time I find shoes here that look as though they were never worn, and they probably weren't, that's why they're here. As for the slightly worn ones, all I can say is that I never have to deal with blisters on my feat. I always like poking around in the mugs, cups, and dishes section here as well. I've found many a favourite mug here. It's important to have multiple favourite mugs you know. I currently have 6 favourite mugs. Somehow they get a lot of cool giant paintings here as well. I'm not sure where they're stealing them from, but they're pretty decent and I'm always a little confused to see such things at a Value Village. Generally still to rich for my blood though, but way cheaper then at a gallery. Don't bother looking through the records though, the only thing people in Niagara Falls listened to apparently were Kenny Rogers and Anne Murray. Not that I'm knocking Kenny, the Gambler's awesome, but I think that's about it.

On Saturday, 10/20/18, I was in need of some last minute medical equipment. On a fluke, I happened…read moreto be in Niagara Falls, NY for an appointment. I asked SIRI for some thrift store suggestions. I chose the second suggestion-Niagara Heritage of Hope and Service. Being only a few minutes away, I took a chance and went there. It was obviously an old Catholic school/church. Feeling nostalgic (and having a sense of deja-vu), I entered the old building and was immediately greeted by a very happy woman and a young man. When I explained my situation, she immediately sprang into action! Within moments, she found a walker with wheels and a quad cane in great condition! During that time, she told me the history of the former church (Holy Trinity) and all the things they do there now. Even though I was short on time, I decided to browse! There literally was something for everyone! The people entering and exiting-they were SO SWEET and full of conversation. There was a young boy who asked (very politely)if there were masks that went with a specific costume. This lovely woman again stopped what she was doing to help him! I was totally impressed! (She was short-handed that day, but she didn't let that overwhelm her!) As for me? I ended up walking out of there with a beautiful afghan and holiday decorations (besides the medical equipment)-and it didn't break the bank!!! When I left the area, it then hit me-I HAD been there years ago! I was a young teacher at that time and had to go there for a training! If you know of someone with a limited income, or if you want to save a few $$, or if you have a sense of appreciation for all things thrifty, this place is worth a look a look (or two or three!) I WILL be back! Please note-they are only opened on Saturdays.
