There were a lot of people working at this store for it to be so poorly organized. The selection is terrible, and many of the shelves are bare. Which is definitely not the employees fault but I feel like Goodwill has just abandoned the store. It could so easily be full of merchandise by what I've seen at the Goodwill bins. Not sure if this store is even worth the drive because first of all they never have good things but even when I wanna go, they don't let you use your Illinois Goodwill card because she says that's for Illinois but the address is 3679 Ridge Rd. Lansing, IL. It makes absolutely no sense at all and they need to just make the store more. I don't know better it's just it's not a good Goodwill. They need to like make it better. I frequent GWs and this is one of the worst i've been to. Nightmare to shop, Racks are crammed full, falling off the hangers, no organization. Unedited, unsized, jam packed racks make it difficult to shop. Not worth the extra time you have to spend sorting through all the mess for the 40% off sale. This place was just a mess. Housewares overpriced, like a 2 c. pyrex food storage bowl for 6.99 WTF? Not worth your time. And those bathrooms... some kind of overpowering, choking 70's 'air freshener'. Not my favorite thrift store in the area by a long shot. The costs keep rising, but the quality is getting worse. Everything has a coat of dust on it, there's always stuff all over the floor. The staff is usually either silent or snippy, at least to me. There's always only one line open, and if you go during a busy time, the line is ridiculous. There's bathrooms though, so that's a plus. "S.A.L.E" is a universal language, and Rosa J. should have known better when this Goodwill in Lansing was having a 50% off sale on a Saturday. I actually don't know much about the promotions happening at Goodwill, and if a certain sale is location-dependent or regionally-run. Hubby finished up a service call in Highland, IN, so we stopped by here since this particular store is near the Indiana/Illinois border (Munster, IN and Lansing, IL). Most items were picked-over, leaving a ton of merchandise on the ground. I would probably give this location a higher rating if I had come early. Many thrift stores in town don't offer public restrooms for patrons, but most Goodwill locations do and they are usually decently-maintained. I will have to give the Lansing location another chance. read more

I live in Indiana. Literally a skip and a jump away from Lansing, IL. When I went to Goodwill today, it didn't dawn on me that I was in Illinois so my family and I didn't bring a mask; Indiana has no mandates. We walked in and we're greeted very nicely from a woman working on clothing, even though we weren't wearing a mask. As we are shopping, a VERY RUDE man, who was Hispanic with an accent, shouted "MASK!" I asked him why because it didn't dawn on me that we were in Illinois. If he was polite, we would have went to our car and came back in with masks. But because he was so very rude and mumbled curse words in Spanish, yes, I understand he called me a, "white *b word," we left and didn't return. GET BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND YOU WILL RECEIVE MORE CUSTOMERS. Any other Goodwill is better no shop at than the one in Lansing, IL on Ridge road next to Strack and Van tils. Avoid as much as possible. read more

As with all Goodwill locations, this location is a hit or miss. However, I have found some REALLY NICE ITEMS here. The building is older and lacks in bright lighting, however this location is always clean and pretty organized. Additionally, I must say I always appreciate the customer service at this location. All of the managers, cashiers, and donation staff have been extremely friendly and helpful. The pricing is consistent with other Michiana stores. For example, women's shoes are a set price ($4.49), unless specially marked. The same applies to board games, which are all $1.49. This proves to be a plus on Half Price Saturdays! Two is generous,and that's only because the ladies at the cash register are very friendly. This place is a mess. I have never seen a more disorganized thrift store. And 30% of the things on the shelves literally shouldnt even be sold. Understand what is garbage, and what is worth selling. Broken statues, pieces of glass, torn and withered objects/clothing; not everything should be sold and you shouldn't be THAT desperate to sell. Objects aren't priced appropriately. My mom and I were in there recently and these BEAUTIFUL vintage collectors Christmas decor was all priced roughly around $5-7 (our bargain!) But some small, run down glass decorations were running $8-12. Like, what? Lol. A Christmas tablecloth was $4 but the red tablecloth next to it was $1. Not to mention the store is just dirty and everything is LITERALLY just thrown on the shelves. This store has a lot of potential but I think corporate needs to go in and reevaluate a lot of things. More organization, more staff? Maybe a position open for someone who strictly organizes/cleans/declutters the shelves? Heck, I'll do it! I visited the Lansing Goodwill to sus out disco stuff for a party and wow! what a nice store! My former Goodwill experiences were with cluttered, disorganized, grubby stores. This place was clean and organized. The only complaint I had was figuring out prices. Some stuff was marked, some stuff was priced based on hard to find signs. Friday was 30% off day and Sunday and Monday are 75% off. KEWL! I found an awesome vintage herring bone trench coat, a sleazy, glittery outfit for my girlfriend (disco night!) and some tacky Lucite heeled shoes. All items were very clean and neatly hung up. My total purchases - including a gold sparkle purse - came to $30.00. WAAAAAYYYYY more that I intended to spend but looking back, worth every penny. I've been a donor to GWL but am going to become a customer. PS No mention of Mom, my erstwhile dinner partner. She sat in the car. Mom does not DO resale. read more

Whoever the store manager was on 11~13~17 was very rude to the customers including ME! I was in line for a purchase. The poor lady ahead of me was buying some old beat up pans. She had just got out of the hospital and was apologizing that she only had change. Quarters, dimes , and Nichols. The clerk was very nice and helping her count it out. All the sudden the front office door opened up and the manager came over and said we won't take change for your purchase!!! WHAT? THIS WAS ALL SHE HAD~~~~ It came to $9.40 with tax. Should she have separated it into 4 separate sales so it would only be a few dollars apiece? I told the lady that I would give her dollars for her change. Purchased an air hockey table. When I arrived home, the puck was gone. I tore my car apart looking for it. I called the store to see if they had found it. And I was told that it didn't come with one. Multiple times. By the store manager TaKeisha, even though my children had been playing with it at the store. I believe it was lost when they loaded it into my car. I'm very disappointed. As I had spent the time, money, and effort to purchase it, and now it is useless. read more

Worst thrift store in the area. The prices are so ridiculously high. Charging $7 for a used, faded t-shirt is ridiculous. If they charged $1.99 for shirts like most Goodwills I would have purchased over $30 worth of clothes today. Instead I'm leaving them on the racks to sit for weeks like they always do. read more

My wife and I went to the Goodwill today to donate our 3 printers and get some items for our kids. The guy that received the printers must have been having a sucky day. When we handed him each printer, he tossed them onto a pile of other electronics like it were a toy! I guess some people don't care about keeping a product's integrity. My kids found a few items to buy, but I can never find the right jeans from Goodwill. It doesn't matter which one I go to. Alot of clothing and items inside had collected dust on it and was not very well organized. After being disappointed again about the jeans, I walked to the book section. The entire section smelled like the inside of a bathroom (there was a bathroom located near by). I have been to plenty of places that had restrooms, but did not smell like a toilet! How could I forget the masses of older couples coming and going in the parking lot nearly running over anything in their path, without even looking back to see what the hell is going on around them!! Overall, the place could have been a little cleaner and more variety. I'm on the fence about recommending this Goodwill. read more

I went to this particular Goodwill to donate goods. This seemed to be a good idea as I patronize Goodwill as I was once an employment specialist for Goodwill Chicago. Anyway, although I appreciate Goodwill workers there are just times when a bad hire answers your call. Today was one of those times. I merely went to Goodwill to drop off some belongings and books. The Goodwill employee came out of the door with an attitude. I think he must have been a vice president that was volunteering for the day because this job was definitely below him. He was a stout light skinned black guy with big black glasses. I think they called him larry. When he looked into my trunk he was really angry that one of my bags was broken. He started complaining that i didn't use heavier bags. I told him most employees never complain they just get a cart and get the job done. But I told him to get a cart I would put the item in the this made him even more he started yelling that he knows how to do his job and that he does the job right way. I said i never have to talk to good will employees and that we donate so that you can keep a job. I started to get angry. All I wanted to do was to donate to Goodwill. He was making this minor task a stressful project for me. I asked to speak to the manager. the manager came and she had no control over this guy. she just kept begging him in a kind manner to behave. It looked as if she was afraid of him. scary ! just what is going on here? well I survived this encounter. Suffice it to say I will donate to Goodwill again just not at this store. The little bad that happened this day can never negate all the goo the Goodwill does for D.O.C. ,and D.O.R.S. referrals. Goodwill is a great company that does alot of good for many people. I helped Goodwill the for many years. I even help build the Hospitality Training program in Chicago. I've seen homeless people get trained and get jobs at the forum hotel downtown Chicago. I usually go in every week and usually am pleased, but lately there is stuff laying eveywhere on the floors, very disorganized, I recently purchased a bathtub spa and got it home and it didn't work, so I brought it back because the receipt said you can get an in store credit for returns, the manager was very rude and told me if it's electronic they will not accept returns and that it was posted all over the store, how can you check if a spa is working, you need water duh! the staff is very nice and they seem to have sales every few weeks, but the prices seem very high compared to other goodwill stores i have been in. they purchase items from Target which i am sure helps them both but this store sells the items for more than Target the lady told me that's why they have sale days. most people i have meet just window shop until the sale days someone should tell them if they lower there prices they could have more people every day not just sale days. it does not seem to be very well run in this respect, but i am sure they do not care about opinions of there customers read more

I could start of this review by ditto-ing everything everyone before me has stated but I won't. To me, "thrifting" is a state of mind. This store is hit or miss with me as with all thrift stores, in my opinion. Yesterday, I was there for the 50% off day and standing in line waiting for the doors to open (I don't think I've ever done that). My heart was heavy because it appeared as though everyone scoped out what they wanted the evening before and came back the next morning to get what they saw. That was evidenced by carts being directed to specific aisles and then loaded with their items. After walking around about half an hour I began to score....I got a huge-sized bronze platter for .99 and a huge-sized chrome lazy susan for 3.99 and a few more items that totaled 20 bucks and some change and with half off....$10 and change! Other times, I have walked in and out empty handed and other times I've scored exactly what I was looking for. I've been coming here every since my daughter was a little girl (she's going off to school this year). Every time I walk in I smile when i remember my daughter eyeballing the toys! read more

I have never in my life had a problem at a thrift store, much less this one. I have always loved going to Goodwill but my experience today which left me feeling very stressed and overwhelmed, a very huge reason I personally will not go to this store ever again. So, we went to goodwill to drop off a baby car seat, not knowing that they don't take them of course, but we were treated rudely and we decided to leave, which took a little bit cause there was a box truck in front of us and a car behind us. The item we decided to leave by the garbage can but an employee, whose name I honestly did not catch, came running around the side and accosted my friend, who is 67, while he was unloading the item into the dumpster. He grabbed his arm, was cussing constantly, being very rude and then snatches the item out of his hand and with force, no care whatsoever about any possibility of damaging the cars interior, throws the item back into the cars backseat and rudely tells us to leave, still while cussing at us. I felt more than unsafe at this store and won't be going to this store anymore whatsoever. The employees truly showed that they care for nobody but themselves. As I said before I have never had a problem at this store but due to this felt very unsafe. I think that if you attend this store you could possibly run into problems with some employees. The girls that work up front are very kind and helpful so I give the store that but I won't be going to this store ever again. read more

Every time I shop at this Goodwill store, I leave feeling stressed. Yes, the store is loaded with wonderful items. I am a vintage collector and decorator and have been shopping at thrift stores since I learned how to drive 30 years ago. I frequent every non-profit thrift store in the area, and cannot drive past a new one without stopping. But only this Goodwill, on Ridge road in Lansing, is a travesty. Beautiful, etched crystal decanters, depression and carnival glass, mid century bar ware and ice buckets, etc. are on the shelves with fresh chips, or broken in half. They are always missing their lids, which can often be found a few isles down. Every time I'm there, I hear a loud crash in the back room, which the workers defend as the dumping of "broken donations that can't be sold." Are we to believe that people donate bins of broken pottery and glassware? The workers are the ones who break the items! Last week, a girl pushed out a wheeled bin of donations to shelve, and I saw a heavy cd player on top of delicate crystal. When I moved a few things, I noticed one of the decanters and several plates were broken underneath. They blame the customers for breaking the things on the shelves, and no doubt, they do. There are always numerous young children running through the store, grabbing things off the shelves, dumping boxes, separating items, etc., while the adults in their group are elsewhere, probably behaving just as badly. No employees speak up, and the manager seems to have set the tone to look the other way. The problem is that money is being lost and a lot of carelessness and disrespect is taking place. People have treated these items with gentle care for decades, and they end up thrown in bins and carted out to shelves where they are separated from their parts or chipped by a careless customer. I can't tell you how many times I have purchased something - a vintage ice bucket, crystal decanter, mirrored trinket box, and found the lids on the shelves a few days later. I bought a Japanese lacquered jewelry box and a Magic Bullet blender one week, and found the missing drawer to the box and one of the cups and chopping blades to the Magic Bullet on my next visit. The biggest Good Will in the area is in Tinley, and they use damage free tape to bind all parts of an item together. It is rare to see a broken, chipped piece of glass or pottery on the shelves, and children and their parents are properly chastised when they misbehave. The same goes for Restoration Ministries and Salvation army stores in the area. Why is this store the only one with hundreds of broken and separated items? I reported this to the regional manager, who must have asked the Lansing manager to try the tape method, since I saw a few, random pieces had been loosely and poorly taped the next week. This was abandoned by my next visit though. For what it's worth, the female cashiers are kind, patient, and professional. The bottom line is this: The manager, and consequently, the workers, have no respect for the beautiful, sometimes one of a kind, or century old items people give them. I stopped donating there when I saw this carelessness in action. It really is a travesty. read more
