My thrifty Family member had the awesome idea of hitting Goodwill to search for budget souvenirs. It was a grand plan but the tchotchke selection was low. The clothing racks boasted some killer bargains though like high-end brand swimwear new with tags for less than $10. It looked like an expensive swimwear store had donated their entire inventory. The size range was good too. I am not too tiny and there were quite a few options if I had been looking for a swimsuit. Drawn to the designer brand rack, I found a nice Banana Republic dress in great condition that now cycles through my work wardrobe rotation. Would I seek it out again? Probably not. Decent store! Better than their Waialae Ave location, but parking also sucks even at this location! I find some good deals. FYI: Did you know that Goodwill pulls all the good stuff aside for their online auctions? For example: Pokemon stuff, video games, anything new with tags and designer clothes and shoes. TERRIBLE. I went on a Sunday. I had to use the bathroom. You need a key to use it, so the sign says ask the cashier for it. So I go to the nearest cashier, and she gives me attitude and simply says "Front." Why not put that on the sign? So I go to the front cashier and she says, "Oh a lady is using the bathroom you have to wait until she's done." They only have ONE KEY for both the men's and women's bathrooms, which to me makes no sense whatsoever. So after 20 long minutes, the oblivious lady who was taaking her time finally comes back and returns the key. So when I finally get the key, they then told me I need to leave something of value, like my smartphone or my wallet, or leave a $10 deposit. JUST TO USE THE BATHROOM. Apparently you can't use the restroom if it's before 12:00pm. During my shopping my son asked the cashier for the bathroom key and she told my son he had to wait until the afternoon for the key bc the bathroom is closed in the mornings. I wonder what employees do if they gotta shishi during the morning. Well my minor child had no other option but to shishi in their parking lot. Ridiculous they'd be open for business in the morning but have their bathrooms closed to customers during that time. read more

I politely asked for the bathroom key and the woman at the cashier was super rude and asked for my ID and kept it to give me the bathroom key. The bathrooms were locked in dirty. The cashier woman slammed the drawer and was very rude to me. I have never been treated so badly at a Goodwill. I will never come back. They treat white people like garbage here. read more

Wow, this place is huge. Not one or two but three full store lots! I specifically came here from cheapo gifts. They have a huge selection of aloha shirts. I snagged a vintage one with wide lapels and old school stitching. They have an large assortment of other things for sale. Plenty of women's cloths and dresses, a lot of shoes which unworn, and just random useful stuff like dog raincoats! You can definitely randomly pop in here and get a great find for under $10 ! read more

Pros: The store is a lot larger and the parking is more accessible since their recent renovation. Cons: Customer service here is nonexistent. They do not provide any shopping carts for people who that have a lot of items to purchase. All they have are these rolling baskets that don't hold very much. I'm extremely disabled and have a hard time walking for even a short time. That being said, I always purchase a lot of items when I shop and spend at least $80+ when I shop there. When I ask if anyone can help me carry some of my bags to my car (since there are no shopping carts), they always can't, even if I see a lot of them doing nothing. They always tell me that I can leave all my bags on the floor by the cash registers and watch me struggle carrying my bags to my car which usually takes 3 trips or more for me. I've actually had an employee tell me I had to leave the section I was shopping in because she had to rearrange it...really?! Isn't the point of having a business to make money? The only people that has actually helped me there were a couple of the boys that work in the back and was on the sales floor restocking. They also have done away with their senior discount day, and they seem to be trying to save money by barely running the air conditioning. The last time I shopped there the air conditioning kicked off and everyone was miserably hot because it was a very hot day. I've been taking my business elsewhere to places that seem to appreciate their customers like Assistance League and some of the church thrift stores. The employees there are all VOLUNTEERS and don't get paid a penny, however they are usually very sweet, professional and make you feel welcome, which is the opposite of Goodwill and their employees that are getting paid and could care less about their customers. Loved the staff here, very friendly and very talkative. Made me feel good to be a shopper here. It was fairly easy to locate due to the signs and they also have a parking lot combined with street parking, metered I believe. Lots of stuff here in the small space. Its utilized well with tons of labels and signs inside. They also have staff over the intercom making announcements - that was a first for me! I was able to find tons and tons of lightly used scrubs. Lucky me even found scrubs with tags! The workers say that a lot of the healthcare workers in the area (Kaiser, Straub, etc.) donate to this location so I definitely plan to be back! They sold sets as sets with one price, which is even cheaper if you buy the discounted daily tag color! I utilized my student discount (every Sunday!) and got three pairs of scrubs, new with tags, for $30. I was in shock and Im also super in love with my purchase today! read more

Huge selection. Prices can be a tad high. Clothes alittle expensive. $6.99 for a used skirt. New one at Ross same price. So only buy if you like it alot. Approx Jan 26th 2023 one of the local lady employees was super rude to myself and another light skinned local girl. Thought it was racism at first , I'm white. The employee is approx 55, maybe 15 pounds overweight. If either if us asked her a question she would give you a stone face and not say anything and would only lift her finger , not arm, to point. The topper was that the employee thought it was cool and funny to be a "B" . When she walked over to elderly security man she laughed. He smiled alittle but he was alot more helpful than she was. It was almost as if he had to appease the B and not be too nice to us. She needs to be fired. Shes immature and doesn't appreciate a paycheck. read more

This is for the MANAGER of the store and her crappy attitude! Who put her in charge? Most of the workers here are nice and are more capable of being a manager with their exceptional attitude and service but not her. She is also very greedy and was upset that the price of certain items were not marked higher, she is constantly yelling at customers who actually BUY stuff for the store which fills their register at the end of the day! Goodwill already has a shady image of posing as a non profit but has very shady practices not good for the community! If you continue to have store managers with this type of attitude then I will no longer donate and purchase things from Goodwill and would look at other thrift stores that exemplify what a non profit is supposed to be! read more

Since both my husband and I voluntarily exited the workforce, ahem, retired..we've stepped up our annual home Spring Cleaning activities. Of course, that means doing minor home improvements or repairs and clearing out excess or clutter from the house. This time, we planned to take our gently used clothing and household goods to Goodwill prior to a charity sponsored "glam" event. It took us several trips with multiple boxes. But, we did it...since we no longer need business attire or formal garments, anymore. It was difficult to part with quality handbags (Coach, Dooney and Bourke, and Prada), dresses, blouses and pants from Ann Taylor, Liz Claiborne, Armani Exchange and Ralph Lauren. My husband emptied his closet of designer jackets, shirts, trousers, Aloha shirts and suits. We probably could have looked for a "Dress for Success" organization but, we caught the cleaning bug and felt that some of our items could be appreciated by those attending the glam event. The folks who intake your goods are friendly and polite. As soon as you unload, they'll give you receipts that you can use for tax write-offs while another staff member starts sorting out your garments. One remarked how nicely folded and packed our boxes were during each of our trips. The drop off area is sort of difficult to maneuver and I can't believe how this location was once the BMW car dealership and repair garage. We have adopted a VERY casual and downsized lifestyle and now dress, almost exclusively, in sportswear... We hope and know that our donations will be appreciated. read more

IMO Goodwill Hawaii prior to COVID-19 closure has been going downhill for quite a while now. From what I've observed: 1. Prices have gone up. Almost like they are price checking items on eBay. 2. Inventory on 'quality' items in Goodwill retail stores is low. Which makes me wonder if employees are cherry picking before the good items even make it to the floor or if there are some 'preferred customers' on call lists for specific items. I've actually seen this at the outlet store where a Goodwill employee brought out some items from the back to a customer who was waiting at the cash register. I'd like to be that preferred customer. 3. Speaking of the outlet store. Same problems. Higher prices and lack of quality items. Have been shopping at the 'bins' for over a year when they were on Kaumualii Street in Kalihi. 'Used to be good' is a phrase often heard among the regulars. Got even worse when the bins moved to the Beretania Street store in December. I stopped going in Februrary since not worth my time. I hope when they reopen, things improve so I can return to shopping there. In the not so distant past, it was a fun and economical place to shop. And for the record, I'm not a reseller. read more

Finally checked this place out today after 5 (!!) years of donating here and never remembering to stop by to check the actual store out. While the upstairs part was, sadly, closed (nullifying the entire reason for my visit- I wanted to check out the home stuff!), the downstairs area was huge and full of racks and racks of men's and women's clothing. It was probably the cleanest and most well-organized Goodwill store that I have ever encountered, although they do organize by color and not by size- and many of their price tags list incorrect sizes, so be careful to check the actual tags before purchasing or trying on. After a few minutes of scoping it out, I was able to pick up a really cute little yellow cotton tube dress and a few shirts that would be perfect for work (and all good quality!), all in near-brand-new condition, for $14 total. Not too shabby! Also: Once a week, Target apparently donates the stuff that they can't stock to this store. Even several days after the Target drop, they had a ton of cute, brand-new clothes from the Target brands on their racks marked down about 75%. Oh, and every Monday a certain color of tag is declared 50% off. I was surprised to discover that a Banana Republic work top that I had picked out amounted to only $2. read more

They have LOTS of merchandise...the apparel is in the front of the store, and if you go down the stairs in the back, it's full of housewares, books, shoes and furniture... I wear your grandad's clothes... I love this thrift shop down the road. Do I always find treasures here? No. But more often than not, I end up leaving with wonderful things to add to my collections or make my apartment more homey. The store is somewhat clean. It's very well organized and I applaud their efforts to move sections around to make it better. They have collectibles cases with nice things, tons of movies and music, aloha shirts galore, and plenty of household goods. When I first moved to the area, I bought all my kitchen and glassware here; all complete sets in new condition. I've found very valuable items and nice furniture. Most recently I purchased a DVD shelf that luckily matched my desk. Beyond purchasing, this is such an easy place to donate to (bins are right inside the front door and in back at the loading area). Goodwill as a company helps a lot of people, so either by donating or purchasing, you're helping. read more

He realized he was missing out on life, wearing cookie cutter button-down shirts when little did he know that Goodwill had a great variety of aloha shirts. Even I wanted to start wearing aloha shirts (can?) The prints were beautiful and inspiring! And not your normal, loud colored, aloha shirt. We went here to find our Harajuku costumes and while Thomas O. was trying on his aloha shirts, I was browsing through the ladies section. I found a bunch of blouses my mom would love and then within 10 minutes, I found my costume. When Thomas came back, and I went to try on my outfit, we could not stop laughing hysterically because of how I looked. (By the way, if you go in the dressing room in the kids department, don't go in if you're claustrophobic.) Very organized, you've got your blouses, your shirts, your shorts, and then the BOUTIQUE. This section is filled with coats, fur coats, and wedding dresses. Thomas O. and I were laughing and trying on the jackets, they're pretty pricey but still in good condition. After we paid ($4 for my dress!), we overheard a customer talking about a downstairs. Our ears perked up. A downstairs, you say? This is where the real treasure was. Lots of vintage items, bags, dishware, books, vinyl records, and shoes. I almost died ded. Love this place! Go with friends if you want a good laugh! read more

But I still give two dollar signs because a lot of this stuff you'd expect to be $0.99 or in a free bin. Still talking about the open-air area. Parking can be tough. Find it on Beretania, or turn down that narrow lane on the side of the building and pray one of their 6 or 8 stalls are open. I know, it sounds bad. The place isn't terrible, my girlfriend and I still come here sometimes when we have some time to kill. But there are a few better options if you aren't limited to town. read more

I have never entered this branch, but am rating them high on the fact that they have a drive-thru donation area. I am an avid fan of donating unused "stuff" and find this branch the easiest to get in and out of. I have donated a couple of times at their Waialae branch, which was so hard to find parking for and to find someone to open the back door to donate my larger furniture items. I will definitely be back to this location on my next donation mission because of the big convenience of the drive-thru and being located right in the middle of town. Passing by for years (on trolleys) and seeing so many racks of aloha wear in the windows, but the inside was disappointing. I thought for sure that there would be all sorts of hidden gems here. Wrong. Lots of the racks were near empty and needed restocking badly. And it's a small store. There were lots of donations from Target stores- I noticed that much. Goodwill as a thrift store (generally speaking) has been lacking for me in recent years. The inventory is alright but the prices have risen. Didn't find anything here. How can anyone diss on the Goodwill? They're out there, doing the most GOOD. WILL. :) Like many have said, Goodwill is a great place to pick up different aloha shirts. Because it seems aloha shirts never die, you can never go wrong grabbing one from any era. No matter what, it's all the same abstract hibiscus flower-palm leaf print you've been seeing for decades. So why not get them cheap? Goodwill shines in this regard. Most folks see Goodwill as nothing but a source of Halloween costumes, but if you need a steady supply of, say, aloha shirts for work or whatever, you'll be glad to pick them up inexpensively. And because it's donor supplied, there's always new inventory. You do need to scan through the items carefully, though, because "preworn" also means stains, holes, and missing tags. Find something you like, check the condition, check the price. If it's not for you, move on and find something else. This place is full of options. Beware: They do have a private parking lot between Young and Beretania, but it's small and tends to be filled. Find street parking along Young Street, if need be. I've been here a handful of times and I've never had a hassle from any of the donation acceptance staff or the sales staff. Everyone here just sort of does their job and leaves you to your business. It's weird to see the homeless queuing up outside before closing then setting up their sleeping areas right in front of the store! I mean literally in the entry foyer and what used to be a flower box where people now sleep. But oh well. That's Honolulu for you. read more
