This Goodwill is what feels like a newer strip mall. Parking is limited - I visited on a Friday, early afternoon, and there weren't too many open spaces. I have to wonder what it's like on a weekend ... although I didn't make note of what other businesses are in the center, so maybe those bring in a lot of traffic on weekdays but not on weekends? Dunno. The store is clean, well lit, and organized. The prices are reasonable and there are some good deals to be found. In about 20 minutes in the store, I left with a cotton cardigan, a skirt, and a pair of pants for $7. The staff were friendly and offered help without being annoying, and gave off a feeling of good humour (which is so rare in thrift stores, so often the staff - esp in the bigger "chain" thrifts - are sullen and uncommunicative at best, snotty or rude at worst!). read more

Always a good place to go when your in a pinch. Usually name-brand items in the "teen" section (although I am not a teen anymore, i have found great deals). Carry a lot of American Eagle Jeans (my favorite) always about $7.25 or so. I've got some awesome A& F clothing--not a big fan of their retail prices, but $12.95 for a nice jacket is not too bad compared to easily $50-$150. They have a good assortment of furniture, pots/pans, books (I get books often there-$1! Cant beat that!) Nick-nacks, misc household items, shoes, t-shirts, linens. Always reasonably priced, usually in good condition. Good place to go to get name-brand and not name-brand items for cheap and a good place to save a buck. I look at it as a huge yard sale. Its great and they always have deals there too. They have a big sign that has you know, "buy 2, get 1 free, half off womens clothes, half off furniture...and so on." The staff is helpful and nice. First time I go to a Goodwill store to shop. I give it 3.5 stars. I'm trying to find ways to save and be smart about money. If the economy changes, I too have to change. -This store would be great for someone who is creative and likes to work with crafts. They have a few isles of household items. Some items just need a little cleaning/ painting (TLC). -Just when I thought books couldn't get cheaper than Amazon (Nothing against Amazon). Books at this Goodwill are $1 and $3. I just purchased a book from Suze Orman for $3. It is new, with CD and still has the plastic wrap. Too cool! -Clothes are okay, make sure you go home and wash it first. Clothes here are smelly. It helps if you know about brands, fabrics and/or if you know how to sew. I purchased a nice shirt for the house for less than $4. (not bad, it's nice and clean and it's thick cotton). -It's nice to know that your donation and/or purchase goes to help others in the community. -Staff was friendly. -I do plan to go again, I know I will find more goodies... read more

This used to be a great find, but prices are out of control, I'd say on average, it is maybe 10-20% off of what you could get the items for new. If you shop here, do solely for fact it is charity, not to find a good deal/bargin. read more

I am a long time shopper and have donated a lot to this store, but I will not be returning again. Today I went to try on a few things and there was the dressing room key hanging by the door, so I unlocked the door and took the key with me so that the next person who came along didn't use the key and open the door while I was changing. So half way through trying things on, store clerk Steve starts yelling, "where's the key?" I explain that I have it and he explains that I have no right to take the key. Why hang it up next to the door then? When I get out of the dressing room, he is standing in my way and gives me a huge lecture on the store policies for a long time in a condescending way and acts like I am stealing. I tell him how I donate a lot to this store, and won't continue to do that if he is going to be rude. I explain that if I had left the key outside the dressing room that the next person who wanted the dressing room would take the key and open the door while I was dressing. So I brush off the bad vibes and go shop some more. The next time I try to use the dressing room he tells me that my purse is a backpack and is not allowed in the dressing room, and proceeds to lecture me again. I went to the counter and asked for his name, and the clerk there was also angry with me for taking the key to the dressing room with me. The whole store has gotten progressively dirtier and the clothing more and more stained and ripped, while the prices have gone up, even for children's clothes, and the reason I shopped there in the first place is for the children's clothes. So time to find a new thrift store. This one is gross and has rude employees. read more

Visiting family on the 4th of July long weekend and much to my surprise this place is way over priced for free donated items. Don't shop here this is a terrible place now. I over heard people stating the reason the prices have sky rocketed is an over prices property the CEO conned the board members into purchasing for a new HQ. All the stuff goodwill gets is donated free to them and the word is these locations make a million plus a year. So they are not hurting. If they are hurting blame the CEO! read more

I love Capitola Goodwill!! The staff and customer service are incredible, especially Pam, she is a true Gem in this world today, she is kind, knowledgable and always smiles and greets everyone! The product selection is huge and very well organized. I always find what I am looking for and the prices are comparable, sometimes the prices seem a little high but the quality for what you pay is worth it. You won't be getting any good deals here! I went to this goodwill today and the employee ringing me up was surprised that some of the kitchen items I was buying were priced so high. She asked the other employee working at the counter if they were correct, and they said that they now look up the prices of items online if they look valuable and charge more for them. Both employees said you could find most things online for cheaper, so I guess that's what I'll do from now on. The days of goodwill scores are over. Such a shame. read more

For being a "thrift" store, there is absolutely nothing thrifty about this store. They're super proud of the worst-looking merchandise, like plastic drawers with cigarette burns for $10. Just because you're in Capitola doesn't mean you should have exorbitant prices. If you live in the area, drive to Santa Cruz and go to Thrift Center or the Goodwill downtown. read more

So I was passing by and I saw this goodwill so I stopped by just to check in, omg I fell sorry for the whole neighborhood around this store the prices was too high even after 50% off, anyway I was checking a box full of items on the shelf, so I picked one item put it back and there was a lady who is working over there so she grabbed that items and throw it away while she was saying TRASH very loud, and once I did put down the second item she grabbed it really fast and throw it away saying TRASH again and then she started to say, "omg you are helping me, making my job easier, thank you very much". Once I heard that statement I just knew this lady is a gangster and she wants something to go down. I walked away and jumped into my car and I'm writing this for anybody wants to go there to just be safe out there. read more

Had a devastating experience there yesterday. I found an American Girl doll in "The Glass Case" and said I wanted it for my Grandaughter. They told me I could not take it with me while I shopped and had to leave it behind the counter. To make a long story short - I excitedly told my Grandaughter about it and I kept checking on it as I shopped because it was casually thrown behind the counter. I noticed it was no longer there and panicked. It had been sold to someone else! To make matters worse, the staff behind the counter were like, "oh well, we don't know what happened, you're outta luck". Important lesson learned: BUY IT RIGHT THEN AND PUT IT IN YOUR CAR! one of the cheapest thrift stores i've ever met. they have a rack of men's tees and polos 3/$1. Women's shirts are almost all $3.25, dresses are $5.25. It's not a very big store. the electronics selection is minimal. i came to buy a robe, i ended up with 2 lightweight ones for $5.25 each. they accept credit cards. they close at 6:00 pm on sunday. read more

Now here is what I remember what a Goodwill store is all about! The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices here are much better than the store in Santa Cruz (see that review under SANTA CRUZ GOODWILL STORE, not Goodwill Industries)--curious as to why (lower rent??). They have a cute catchall section featuring small furniture, lamps, electronics,etc that is usually fun and interesting. And the Daisy Chain thrift store is nearby--some fun stuff there. read more

The staff inside are quite nice but my issue is that the donation staff are usually very rude and unfriendly which is disappointing and makes me not want to donate to this organization. Won't waste my time here ever again. Went in and found multiple of the same item all with different prices. Asked an employee if It was possible i pay the same price for all, she said not a problem and took the tags off and said the cashier will just know they are all the same price. Got to the register where the employee started yelling at me for allowing the other employee to take the tags off (which I never requested her to do, I simply asked if it was possible I pay the same price ) I was in shock and ended up leaving the items on the counter and walked out as she slammed my items about and was mumbling about this not being the day for this. Staff not professional and items WAYYYY overpriced. People DONATE these items and they jack the prices up to department store prices. Ick! Donate your stuff to the women shelter or habitat for humanity instead! read more

This location used to be a great spot for awesome scores. They made it bigger which should have been a good thing but it wasn't. Went in a couple times since the renovation and had come to the conclusion that they ruined the Goodwill. Prices are higher, selection is worse. Good luck finding more than a small rack of whatever color tag is half off. I also noticed that most of the clothes are not in the section for their sizes. You'd think that with the new higher prices, there would be more organization. Oh well. Worst part is it appears that they go through their donations and anything they deem nice or "brand name" goes into the "boutique" area and gets priced with stupidly high for used, clothing. Most of the boutique stuff is out of date brand name or cheaper brand but new with tags. I saw lots of Kohl's brands that I guarantee you, you could find cheaper new at Kohls. You are better off going to Crossroads downtown or any of the other secondhand boutiques now.Hopefully they go back to their old model because they basically took all of the fun out of shopping there. read more

Giving this location 2 stars. They just added a "boutique," which is a room full of crappy clothes that are either (a) new with tags, which does not necessarily mean it's in style, or (b) "better brands," which doesn't mean it's not ripped or stained. I saw a skirt with original hang-tag of $135 today; it was Goodwill-priced at $79, and it had 2 jagged rips along each side. Tons of other crappy stuff also being sold at estate sale prices. Who goes to Goodwill to spend this kind of money? Curious how long they think they can sustain this business model, especially if Scotts Valley and Downtown follow suit. Do yourself a favor and skip the Capitola Goodwill and go to a consignment store instead. Even Ross is cheaper, and the clothes are clean and intact! Even the non-"boutique" items seem to have been marked way up from usual Goodwill prices. Such a bummer, because this used to be my favorite of the 3 locations, in terms of inventory. read more

I've been shopping at Goodwill stores for many years and have witnessed a sharp decline in the quality and quantity of its goods in the last 5 years or so. It used to be that I could easily find clothing, kitchen ware, furniture that was unique and interesting. But now everything is shoddy, I almost never find anything, and I seldom shop there anymore. It seems every time they remodel there is less of everything, and what's there is cheasy. The book selection, too, is increasingly pathetic. Considering what Goodwill used to be, shopping there now is sad and frustrating. read more

I have yet to make any purchases at this location so I can not comment to that aspect. With that being said, I have never had any issues with donating items. The exception to that was when they would not receive a helmet as it is their policy not to accept such items. Other than that, my experience with donating items has always been positive. I can not say the same for some locations in San Jose as they were very picky about donations when I was helping my parents clear out some of heir belongings. read more

I have been shopping at this Goodwill since it First opened and have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars over the years, I have come across a few Rude Unprofessional employees But today made my jaw drop, I was excited to see the new expansion and headed over to the jewelry counter waited for awhile and no help, continued to shop around then back to the jewelry Saw two employees talking loudly still waited finally one of them noticed me and I smiled to let them know Yes I wanted to see something, then the loud mouth barks " she will wait on you because I am on my lunch break" in the Most Condescending Bark!!... The other young lady came over and I said that was totally unnecessary of her to speak that way as I am a loyal customer, The young lady said she has had other complaints about the Barker and that she is the assistant manager, she Did Not apologize for the rude behavior of her employee, on my way out I saw the rude barker walk right in front of an elderly woman without a Pardon me the elderly lady had the same look on her face as me, What has happened to the Goodwill?........I do want to give a Shout Out To one Outstanding Employee Adrian! I love thrift stores, and this one is "kinda okay". The quality of items here is just "okay" and prices are variable, and often kinda crazy high. I've never shopped for clothes, but found a comforter and a fleece throw very reasonably-priced. Dinnerware was also reasonable, but small electrical appliances seemed ridiculously high, like you could probably buy a similar new one for the same price. read more

Score of a lifetime! I could not believe my eyes when it spotted an All-Clad Ltd 14" skillet - for $2.50. This is the grandfather of frying pans. I did my happy dance up and down the aisles. I also scored a perfectly good 3/4 rip curl wetsuit for $25- no rips or stains or smell, but wait..there's more- it had a blue tag which means it was %75 off that particular day- who scored an $8 wetsuit? I Did! Now you may not be as lucky as I am, but do enjoy the hunt. The aisles are clean and shelves are organized. The prices are freaking awesome! read more

I am loving this good will. Brian from Guatemala was a big help with my huge world map picture that btw I am turning it into a coffee table. I got some yarn to knit a scarf. The thing that really sucked was that half of the other stuff I got didn't have a price tag so I grabbed it anyways and went to go purchase my treasures. The thing that SUCKED was they could not sell to me without a sticker. Why would management not have a person at front who is in charge of pricing ???? I shop here because the money goes to charity and I can justify buying pretty much anything I want. It's great retail therapy without the guilt or regret. This is the first time I've reviewed a business on YELP. I'm doing so now because of an earlier commentor who was upset about the quality and quantity of items at this Goodwill. Did she forget it's a store where items are donated, and there is no control over quality or quantity? Items that are truly not fit for selling end up at the Warehouse Store in Santa Cruz. This Goodwill is clean, well organized, and doesn't give the "feel" of a standard thrift store. That is, if an item is carelessly left on the floor by a shopper, it is smilingly picked up and returned to its place. Also, the staff is friendly, smiling, and always greets customers at the door. I like that. They are not the over-bearing, look-over-your-shoulder kind of people, but they are available for assistance, without the sullenness I've seen at other, "regular" stores. Over the years, I've found furniture, household items, clothing, and books here, all of which were in good condition. Of course, cleaning of items before use are always recommended, even if an item is purchased new at a high-end store. It's monthly auctions are fun, too! The winner of the auction has the option of declining if he/she thinks the price is too much or has simply changed his/her mind. I've won a couple auctions here, and it was well worth it. It's a silent auction, which means you write your bid and need not be present to win. I like this store, and will continue to shop here. Hurray for Jules, the manager, and staff. read more

I absolutely love this particular Goodwill store for many reasons. First reason being is their customer service. Every time I walk through the door I am greeted with a, "Welcome to Goodwill" and a smile. They make me feel as if I'm going to see my friends who just happen to have great things to buy. Jessica, the assistant manager, I believe (If not, she definitely deserves to be), has literally helped me to transform my look by not only encouraging me with her compliments but also by her own style. Her upbeat personality is infectious as she says her trademark, "woo hoo" after every announcement making the shopping experience fun for everyone. The store is ALWAYS clean and organized, so it makes shopping almost effortless compared to other recycled stores. This Goodwill is well run, clean, and organized. It is an asset to the 41st Ave corridor which has so much generic stuff in the way of clothes and kitchen sources. While I don't always understand their pricing set-up, I have scored some wonderful items for me and my family. I got an amazing leather jacket for 12 bucks and a slick Italian sportcoat for my son also for $12. Parking can be a drag, but that's not their fault...The workers are friendly the seasonal stuff is fun as well. I try to stop in at least once a month to either donate stuff or pick up something new. read more
