This thrift store is like a hidden gem. Thankfully, I found some amazing hidden gems while shopping there too!! This was my first time exploring this store AND I cant wait to go back. I was lucky enough to wonder in, on a day when everything was 50% off!! The store is fairly well organized and divided by sizes and type of clothing. I also scored a gorgeous vase and a piece of Golden Girls memorabilia for a friend. AWFUL. Staff pulls anything they think is valuable and put in a front corner behind a gate. If you shop inside here, you're watched like a hawk and 99% of it is garbage. Prices are ridiculous and not much hits the floor anymore. A few years ago, when Robert ran the store, it was fantastic. Went this past week and they've been doing a 50% off EVERYTHING sale on Thursdays. Quite happy with my haul. Obviously still thinking abt it to leave a review. Picked up a jacket, some leggings, and a shirt for $10.50 and spent another $14 on baby items (alphabet foam mat, Melissa and Doug puzzle, breast milk bags, shape sorter, ezpz bowl, Nike baby clothes, etc). I was here last week and had one of the strangest experiences in my life!! I was shopping with my wife and 9 year old son, my son and I were in the water bottle/ cups areas. As I was looking at something an employee came up next to me to stock the shelves, I moved to the side a bit and to be polite I smiled and said "hello how are you doing today" that's when it got WEIRD!! She looked at me and said "I'm not doing good now that your talking to me!" I apologized and was completely floored!!! I completely understand this is a thrift store and your employee pool cannot be the most reputable bunch but wow keep an eye on your employees, we were ran outta there and I have told everyone I know. They also regularly put items on 50% off sale for the entire store, making it very easy to find something you like from their wide selection. Great place to shop for a good cause. This second hand store sells gently used items which benefits the United Cerebral Palsy of south bay. They have tons of clothes here, most priced from $3.99 to $9.99 or so, but of course there are also other clothing items that are more expensive XP if they're better brand names, etc. There's a small selection of DVDs and a decent selection of books. There's also quite a bit of shoes, and some houseware, kitchenware, electronics, jewelry and miscellaneous items like knick knacks and decorations. Overall, this is a wonderful consignment store for a good cause and I found a few great items to include a pair of timberlands for my little one, a pair of Enzo Angiolini flats for my mom, and a pair of mootsie tootsie casual shoes for myself. We also got some books, a few DVDs, a brand new set of sheets, and an educational board game. If we are in the area again we'll likely visit and see what we find. The area this store is in isn't the best in Santa Cruz, but it's off a busy main street and easy to find and the store was pretty organized and the staff friendly although it is probably one of the most inexpensive second hand store and not as fancy as others in the area. read more

Updating my review to 3.0. They no longer have 50 % off the entire store on Thursdays. They have a new tag sale from now on like Goodwill. They will honor old coupons until they're gone. Including the any day red 50% off coupons and the 50% off receipt coupons for Sundays. They will continue to offer 50% off everything for Seniors on Mondays and students and Teachers on Tuesdays. I do like how they've rearranged the store but I am sad about the new sale system. And their prices have definitely gone up. read more

One of my favorite thrift stores in Santa Cruz! They have really reasonable prices - way cheaper than goodwill or Salvation Army. They also have discount days almost every day of the week. There is street parking as well as a small parking lot next to the building. You do need to take your time in looking though everything as the clothing is not organized by size but by color and style. That being said there are a lot of good gems in the store, I always come out with a huge stack of clothing! They bring out new items throughout the day every day. The employees are all very nice and helpful. I needed help pulling apart two carts and one employee was happy to help. read more

they are racist, or they have a racial bias, as do most people. i (a black person) walked into the store with a tote bag and a paper bag from previous shopping. I grabbed a cart and I put my two bags in the cart, the worker at the cash register told me and only me to give her my bags. I looked around and everyone else had their bags on their shoulder, yet she's only asking for mine the only black person. I have never been treated like this, I left the store almost immediately and I don't support racists so I won't ever be shopping their again, and if you're reading this review I honestly urge you to do the same. and to the younger person watching her coworker do this, you're just as shameful for being complicit in her behavior. read more

What a fun place! I was here on a Monday afternoon and there were quite a few seniors with full carts buzzing around the store. An announcement came over the PA that it was "50% off for seniors!" And I thought I heard a cheer rise up collectively from the happy shoppers. While I didn't qualify for senior status, I found quite a few nice pieces of clothing that were also deeply discounted, and left with a nice haul for $7.00! Wow! This is one of my favorite thrift shop to go to.. and this is saying something because I make the commute all the way from San Jose! It seems that whenever I come through, Thrift Center is offering some sort of discount for their clothing whether it be 25 % or 50 % off, they're very generous when it comes to their sales. There was one occasion where I brought back a previous receipt where I spent more than $25 and my whole transaction was discounted an additional 50% off INCLUDING further discounts of the day! This thrift store is sorted to the best of their abilities, but to real find the good stuff you need to sift through the racks of clothing. Usually, when I go to thrift shops I have an idea of what I'm looking for (I.e men's jackets) and upon entry i head straight towards that section. Otherwise I just browse and find some cool things. Just showed up at the store. Yelp and the sign on the door both say theyre open till 8. It was 7:50 when I walked up to the door to see a closed sign. There was an employee at the door, and I showed h my phone and said they were supposed to be open till 8. The guy just kept shrugging his shoulders and saying, "We're closed." TL:DR; Great place with great prices! 11/10 Would recommend to all my friends. The new location is easily accessible with a parking lot! My first visit at Thrift Center was back when they were at their old location near the Metro station. I was (and still am) a broke college student who loved thrifting so when I moved into town to attend UCSC, I began snooping out places that would satify my thrifting needs. To my surprise, Thrift Center is by far one of the best places to go! Sure, it might not be super organized in terms of sizing but that's honestly just part of the thrifting experience -- you need to work in order to find the best deals and steals! And in comparison to the surrounding thrift stores, I'd say this place is more organized than the others, especially for the amount of workers they have. I'm genuinely impressed! While their new location isn't as easily accessible by bus (like the previous location) if you can drive, it's quick and worth the trip! Otherwise busing or ubering isn't so bad either! read more

Lots of great kitchen/dining/houseware items for dirt cheap prices, even for a thrift store. We found a new pair of men's shoes for $4.00. I purchased glassware for .79-$3.99 each. Went into the Thrift Center today to buy some flowers for my Dicken's Fair hat, found the perfect one but it had no price on it. Thought they would price it at the register. I got up to the cashier she curtly said no price we cannot sell it to you, I asked "can you get a manager", she said no and dismissed me. Mind you this was plastic flowers, a small bunch at that. I left with out buying anything, went to Goodwill. It was cleaner and had more stock and the flowers did not have a price on them. I asked a associate and he gave me a price right away.
