I have been a customer since 2014 when we moved to McKinney. I understand that it went through an ownership transfer back around 2019. The product has not slipped but the customer service is not as good as when it was an all family business. However, their caramels are the best! My wife got me some for Easter and I noticed while the price has steadily increased due to the world we live of which I understand but the candy is half the size it used to be not more that 6-8 months ago. Visited the shop today with my sister-in-law and mother. We were excited to get some of the chocolates there for my sister-in law's stay here in Texas. (She brought our family some nice truffles and chocolates from France). My mom asked if they offer any samples and the man working the counter rudely told her "do you think you could go to a steak house and get a free sample of steak?" Although we were VERY taken aback by his rude comment, my mom still proceeded to pick out some chocolates to buy. However... nothing to write home about for taste and because of such rudeness (for no reason) we won't be going back. He could have kindly said "no, I'm sorry we don't". read more

Really neat chocolate shop that also sells board games and other goodies (see what I did there?) The chocolate is what they focus on, and they have lots of neat options. The fudge and the truffles were the things that really caught my eye. We ordered some of their maple walnut fudge, and it was so dreamy good! Just a hint of a savory salty flavor with the walnut and then smooth sweetness with the maple, and not overly sweet. We got a raspberry truffle, and a hot peanut butter cup. The raspberry truffle was delicious, raspberry filling in a dark chocolate shell. The spicy peanut butter cup was our adventurous buy. It's like a normal peanut butter pup, but has jalapeño oil in the chocolate. You really don't taste it, but it hits you after. It was interesting and pretty tasty. Some of the stuff they sell I feel like I can make at home (chocolate covered chips, marshmallows, pretzels, etc) but the fudge and truffles are definitely worth stopping in for! read more

Very cool candy and toy/gift shop located in the square in McKinney. We were walking around the square Saturday afternoon and happened upon this place. The first thing you notice when you arrive isn't the toys or gifts, it's the smell. It smells fantastic. Apparently they make all the candy on premises, and the shop benefits from the baking. This place packs a lot into a small shop. They several types of candies in the case, including truffles, fudge, sugar free options, bars, and other assorted items. I went with a dozen truffles to take home for $20. Also got a couple of slabs of fudge: chocolate peanut butter and salted caramel. The salted caramel was far and away the winner. Not that the chocolate peanut butter wasn't good, but the caramel was excellent. The truffles are gorgeous, they look like a lot of time went into them. Great designs and very impressive; they'd make a great gift. A couple of them looked almost like glass, they were that impressive. Again, I liked the salted caramel, but the strawberry was another favorite. In addition, they have a lot of the classic candies (think gummy candies, those old wax coke bottle things, etc), toys, shirts, general random gifts. And, although I didn't look closely, they have a lot of camera stuff too. Like I said, they pack a lot into a small space. You can work up quite a tab here if you don't watch yourself. Easy to snatch and grab from the candy case. 12 truffles for $20 might seem a tad on the high side, but given the location and the attention to detail, I think the price was reasonable. Highly recommended, it's a fun shop and you'll probably find something you like. read more

***Goodies Texas looks the part and is a perfect fit for its surroundings (McKinney's quaint, nostalgic and small town-esque square), but I felt their chocolate truffles were not as good as other great chocolatiers I have tried across the country*** Goodies Texas is a nice looking and local chocolates shop in Downtown McKinney. Downtown McKinney has a quaint, small town square feel and Goodies is the perfect fit for it. Goodies features lots of chocolates by the piece as well as a variety of packaged candy, treats and toys for kids. I tried a few of their chocolate truffles and they were decent. What was most impressive was their variety of flavors. They had a lot of standard flavors like caramel and dark chocolate, but they also had more interesting truffles like peanut butter and jelly, Irish cream, caramel apple, Jack Daniel's, and so on. Unfortunately, I did not love the truffles here. The fillings were fine and sweet but did not explode with an intense and distinct flavor like you get with chocolate truffles at top chocolatiers such as Kollar Chocolates in Yountville, California and Christopher Elbow in Kansas City. In addition, I found the outer chocolate shell a tad dusty like it had been sitting around too long. They did not have that good color of excellent dark chocolate. The flavor was pleasing, but it did not really taste and melt like high quality chocolate. Service was quick and very friendly. Prices for their chocolates are a tad high. Goodies Texas has a nice look that is cluttered but very charming. Sometimes, you can find great chocolatiers in small towns like McKinney, but I felt this one fell a little short. They had a variety of chocolates beyond truffles though so maybe some of their other selections like their turtles provide a more enjoyable and memorable chocolate experience. Oh my gosh. Best chocolates ever! I just had the berry lavender truffle, and it was the best thing ever. I am already decorating a nursery for the baby I'm going to have with that thing, because I am marrying that bad boy. Then I had the strawberry margarita and it was sooooooo good. Fun homemade fudge and chocolates store on the McKinney Square! Their candies are amazing and are almost too pretty to eat! I shopped with my cousin and she had the staff help her put a Valentine's chocolate box together for her husband. You can mix and match and get fudge, toffees, chocolates, cordials....the sugar sky's the limit! They also sell cute t-shirts and there's also a photography portion (across from the candies) that's run by the family. You can drop off rolls of film or have your camera repaired. Having lived on the East Coast for years, it was awesome to walk in and hear the owner's Rhode Island accent, among a sea of Texan accents. Worth the return trip, just for that. He was super chatty and friendly with us, and even remembered my brother's name (he's a semi-regular visitor). Like that personal touch! It's a quirky concept here--candy, old school toys,and camera stuff. But, it works. Came here about a month ago. They make their own chocolate here, and have a number of options. I tried the milk chocolate toffee, the dark chocolate peppermint patties, and the milk chocolate almond bark. All dope. Definitely worth a return trip here. read more

Their truffles need a little work and are more 3 stars than 4; get yourself 1 or 2 to sample first to see if you like them...you might, I just wasn't in love. Their pecan praline whatever it is called, is so good though. The rich taste of butter just melts my little toes. I also like their toffee. I've purchased their Texas shaped gift baskets as gifts for fellow small business owners/colleagues because I like to support local business. They have lots of gift options including items like tee shirts and glassware if I'm not mistaken. This is such a COOL store front. They have such a variety of chocolate and sweets. They have some excellent little gifts for kids such as a huge Peez dispenser or old fashion candy. I like this store for not only the toys (which are mostly wholesome role-play, traditional) but also the nostalgic treats and the fun and whimsical items such as Star Trek coffee mugs. The prices are very good for the toys and just ever-so-slightly elevated for some of the treats. But that is very much in line with hard to find old-timey candy. I love to stop in here and browse and never feel badly if I just look and do not buy but I did end up getting all of my Grandkids gifts here as they had everything I needed - even the esoteric items that I would have to search online to purchase. read more

After having to witness the owner threaten and yell at a young customer over some kind of dispute I was just hoping my child would pick something so we could go. Sounded like it was over a price of a camera...although all I could hear was the owner and never head anyone else say anything. The owner threatened and came around the counter. The two very young customers left with their heads down and I never heard them say one word. Having the owner start bashing the other customer to me after they leave....unbelievable. As an adult I would hope other adults - especially owners of their own establishment - would know how to behave. Apparently not. Blaming others for your behavior is something my 12 year old does. It is not worn well on an adult, so stop excusing your bad behavior on other people. Especially customers. And if you plan on verbally spewing your defenses to the other customers you should not get offended and run to the back like a baby. I had to explain to my 10 year old why she had to be ushered away from the outbreak and later explain why someone would behave that way and yell at someone in a store like that. I have never seen this level of unprofessionalism in a freakin' toy store before and I sure I hope I never do again. read more

I can't believe Goodies hasn't been reviewed yet! This is the only place I know of in the area that makes fresh chocolate candy. The owners moved down here from somewhere up north (Rhode Island?) where they had a thriving chocolate shop and opened up Goodies. They make their chocolates there on-site so it's guaranteed to be fresh. They also make fudge and assorted other delicious treats and they have a lot of packaged old-time candies. Everything I've had from them has been great. The shop is also full of games and toys, puppet and puzzles. This is a great old-fashioned style candy & toy store. Love it! Love it! Love it! read more

But the real reason we went there was to check out the table top games. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about games and he can recommend something for everyone.
