After a few weeks of nothing, I sent an email to inquire. Maceo responded very politely and friendly saying it must have gotten mixed up and they would deliver the rest. Some more time goes by and still nothing. So I email again saying the other boxes had still not been received. Maceo again apologizes and says the 3 boxes will be delivered over the next 3 weeks. Great! However, more weeks go by and again nothing shows up. So I get fed up, text Maceo and respectfully explain that I would just like a partial refund. He is apologetic and agrees. But... no refund ever comes. I text again after more than a week goes by without seeing any refund and get no reply. I am not sure what their deal is. I'm very disappointed and frustrated by the experience and hope it will eventually be resolved. The worst part of all is my brother missed out on this potentially cool gift that I spent time researching and thought would be so fun and unique.

It's like a page from Food & Wine magazine...which, should pay a visit to Fully Belly Farm if they haven't already. I won't go too far into what they do here as their website does a much better job than anything I could piece together in the midst of this food hangover. Check out their website for info on their history, their CSA, and their monthly farm dinners, etc. When you arrive, you might be greeted by the sweet face of Mister (or is it Mr.?), one of the many farm dogs located on this beautiful farm. There's a lovely little table set up under a shade tree, with beverage options such as wine, beer, tea, and fresh watermelon water with mint...So refreshing and perfect. And it just gets better from there. On the evening a crowd of dear friends and I joined complete strangers at perfectly set picnic tables, the menu went a little something like this: Seared pork belly with plum glaze: so incredibly delectable that I tried to describe how good it was three times and failed. The meat was spicy and sweet, and the glaze...I'd like a bowl of it to dip bread in. An unbelievably perfect start to the evening. Summer squash and ricotta tart: Fresh squash like I've never tasted, and a buttery crust so flaky we found ourselves just eating little pieces of it right off the plate while waiting for the next course. Tomato, eggplant, and basil stack: if my parents had been able to feed me tomatoes like this when I was a kid, it wouldn't have taken me 20 years to like whole tomatoes. Thee best and sweetest tomatoes I have ever had. Perfectly paired with eggplant and fresh basil...I could have eaten an entire platter of these stacks myself. Whole egg pasta w/wild boar ragout and early girl tomatoes: the freshest homemade pasta paired with a deliciously tender wild boar and more sweet tomatoes...At this point I was so full but just couldn't stop myself...I put my utensils down twice in an attempt to pace myself but kept picking them up and ended up cleaning the plate. Crimson sweet and orchid watermelon salad with mint and feta: a palate cleanser that like all the courses before, was impossible to stop eating! The meal could have ended here; I've never had watermelon so sweet and tender. Upside down brown sugar plum cake with crème fraiche: okay...I will be honest. This cake was delicious, but I'm the kind of person who thinks everything needs ice cream...so, while this was really delicious...I of course wish it had been served with a big scoop of homemade ice cream, but...you can't have it all. Truly, everything we ate was absolutely amazing. The setting could not have been more brilliant; everyone who worked/cooked/served/grew the food was welcoming and you could see how passionate they were about the farm and its operations. From those various farm dogs, to the casually yet perfectly set tables, right down to the speakeasy jazzy music coming from the outdoor kitchen, these people really have their act together. If you're looking to do something outside of Sacramento and want an evening to remember, I highly recommend attending one of Full Belly Farm's monthly dinners. They open early and close at 2:00 weekdays, 5-1 Saturdays and 6-9 on Sundays. 4 plantains will cost you between 3 and 4 dollars. They are a good size, not as big as you see in Puerto Rico but better than most supermarkets. I guess this is where restaurants get their supply from. I cooked 1 of the 2 ripe plantains last night and they were perfect.

We were looking for a farmer's market that was open on Sundays as we were meeting up with a friend…read moreto work with her dog's neutrality in higher- stimulation environments, and Carmichael Farmer's Market came up during our search. I also liked that it was open later in the day compared to most other farmer's markets. Upon arrival, there was a good amount of people enjoying the breezy August day, and parking wasn't too difficult to find. We ended up parking along the perimeter of the park itself, since the farmer's market is located at Carmichael Park and the main lot was full. For a smaller farmer's market, there were still a good variety of vendors, and a handful of produce stands. Food and drink vendors were also present, and of course the matcha stand was popping. The matcha stand was called Luz & Leaf, and had a small but varied menu, including a seasonal mango matcha lemonade for the summer. I had to go for the London Fog Matcha Latte, since I love earl grey tea (and lavender syrup). This matcha latte was the perfect drink for walking about the farmer's market, and so smooth. The ice level was just right, and I'm so glad they had oat milk for me, as that has been my milk of choice these days for my coffee/matcha orders. There were only two girls manning the matcha stand, and they were working diligently to whisk matcha and get orders out in a timely manner. I absolutely did not mind waiting, and enjoyed watching the girls put together everyone's drinks. I also got a stamp card from them since I would definitely want to have more matcha from them again. The other vendor we ended up purchasing from was a sweet lady who sold green tea leaves, including Kan Cha, which is one of the rarest teas in the world. She works directly with small farms who grow the special tea leaves, and sells them at a really reasonable price point. I ended up getting a packet of the Kan Cha, and will be making some once it gets cold enough to make hot tea (she recommended to steep it in hot water for best flavor notes). As we were busy training with my friend's dog, we didn't quite experience as much of the framer's market as much as I wanted to, but I'm sure we will be back some other time. This farmer's market is super dog friendly, so it's a perfect environment for working on handler engagement and neutrality. The majority of the dogs seemed decently behaved, but I personally wouldn't bring my own dog to this farmer's market, especially since the majority of dog owners don't pay good enough attention to their dogs, and don't hold their dogs to a high standard of obedience like I do with my own dog. We had a few close calls where owners didn't care and literally allowed their dogs to stare at or wander close to my friend's dog, which is very rude. All in all, I'm glad to see this little farmer's market thrive, and would love to check out some of the other vendors next time we visit.

I only learned about it because a local cinnamon roll vendor sets up shop every Sunday at the farmers market,so what began as my search for an incredible cinnamon roll turned into me discovering the cutest little farmers market in Carmichael. This farmers market happens once a week on Sunday mornings from 9am-2pm. This market is located at Carmichael Park on Grant Avenue. Generally I'd say there are about 50 or so vendors each week at the market,though I have seen that number a little higher on random weekends. Free parking at this park is pretty plentiful as Carmichael Park has many parking spaces available. These vendors are pretty good-quite similar to the vendors that I've seen at the Midtown Farmers Market-fresh fruits and veggies,a few vendors making fresh foods,like the cinnamon rolls vendor that got me to this farmers market. They have a vendor who has massage chairs setup and offers massages to customers. Another vendor I love is an Asian Bakery,selling incredible milk bread and sells these great egg salad sandos on milk bread-solid stuff. The best vendor, though,as I mentioned earlier is the cinnamon roll vendor and it's fabulous.The lines for this vendor can be pretty long and they sell out every weekend-I fully recommend them. This is a very nice farmer's market. It is located in a very convenient spot, just off the freeway…read moreon the corner of Sunrise and Folsom Blvd in the light rail parking lot. It is very pleasant with a great variety of produce, nuts, organic eggs, plants etc. There is usually a clown that make balloon animals and live music. We have been regular customers of many of the farmers that come here. We have even followed some of them when they were in a different location. We have our favorites! If you come here for your fresh produce, you will soon have favorites of your own.
