First of all I'm not into leaving bad reviews, but I felt so ripped off I had to. I really wanted to have a good experience here because the workers seemed cool and honest, but unfortunately my overall experience with this shop left me very disappointed. I spent a little over $800 for them to "rebuild my carb." Less than two months later the carb went bad again. Out of frustration, I took it apart myself and realized that not all the parts had even been replaced--just the jets. For the price I paid, I expected a proper rebuild with all worn parts addressed, not just a quick patch job. The main issue I had was with the owner, Charlie. Every time I checked in on the bike, he would throw out a new number -- "oh, $200 for this, $200 for that, extra hours for this" -- but I was never given a clear breakdown or proof of where those costs came from. In the end, they did small things like tightening my primary chain and starter, but nothing that justified $800. Charlie told me he spent more than five hours "troubleshooting" an electrical issue that still wasn't fixed, and at $250/hour, I think that's way overpriced -- especially when I didn't see results. The crew in the shop seemed like good guys, but the way Charlie handled the pricing and communication left me feeling taken advantage of. For the amount I paid, I expected my bike to be in good running condition, and instead I'm back to square one doing the repairs myself. I am someone who enjoys working on my cars and motorcycles and for the most part know my way around them pretty well but for mounting and installing passenger pegs which did not come stock on my Harley Iron 883, I knew I did not have the tools and did not want to buy specific tools I'd only need once. I installed the seat and sissy bar myself but I knew installing the pegs would be a pain in the ass. Jeff was a straight up dude, gave me an exact quote and told me to come back in an hour. I feel it's important to say that I am a woman and bring a woman's perspective for this review because, as I had the misfortune of learning, a lot of shops do not welcome women--especially novice riders. I'm a late comer to the world of riding. I bought my used 2017 Iron 883 Sportster as a gift to myself, and as a challenge to learn something new and exciting. Needless to say I know very little to practically NOTHING about motorcycles. Having just a few months of practice under my belt (buzzing around parking lots in 2nd for a while), I knew just enough to recognize the sounds that my bike makes and the ones that it shouldn't. Being that I'm a complete novice, I wanted to have my bike looked at from front tire to back before taking her on the street. I visited a couple shops that advertised as Harley experts. I even reached out to the place I bought my bike--Bert's Mega Mall and even Laidlaw's. Sadly, shops treated me like I wasn't worth their time. I did my best to describe what was happening and what my concerns were with the little knowledge I had. They were dismissive at best, but mostly just rude and curt. Bert's doesn't even service Harley's which makes me wonder what condition my bike was since I bought it used from them. Laidlaw just made me feel like any other person--which I am, but I was hoping that they would have lived up to the Laidlaw reputation and represented Harley in a better light. Recognizing my need for a good start and minimal experience. It was not a good experience. Finally, I went to Charlie's. I was fortunate to have met with Charlie my first time in. He was so very welcoming and supportive of my new interest in riding. He gave me riding tips, encouragement, and most importantly, made me feel like a person. I was comfortable in my ignorance whereas the other places just made me feel ignorant-- believe it or not, there is a difference. He said he could look at my bike as soon as the next week. This motivated me to get my permit the very next day so that I could ride my bike into his shop! And I did just that! I met with Jeff who was equally as kind and helpful. It was obvious from how I could barely ride into the driveway without taking out the other parked bikes, that it was my first time on my bike on the public streets. Unlike the other places I visited, Jeff never made me feel inadequate or treat me like I was anything less than a "fellow rider." It felt good to be there. He took it for a short ride, checked some quick possible issues, and decided he needed to keep it for a closer look. I'm SO HAPPY to have found Good Time Charlie's and have no problem recommending anyone regardless of riding experience or motorcycle knowledge to bring their bike to Charlie and Jeff. I came out to LA from Oregon to ride my Harley for a week. Bike started giving me issues and a friend took me to Charlie's to see whats going on. I explained the situation, that I'm here to ride for a short period of time and what I've previously done to the bike and described the issue I was having. The bike was put up on the lift right away and the problem was found shortly after. Turns out transmission bearing failed. Charlie showed and explained how transmission works so I also learned a ton. I have an '18 SG. Was hearing a knocking sound coming from my tranny. Was hesitant on stopping by but passed by Charlie's all the time. I definitely didn't have the $$$ that a dealer would charge so I asked a neighbor that works on older Harleys but he didn't know how to start to work on mine. So I asked him what he thinks and Charlie's, he told me that Charlie is well known especially in the area and he knows Charlie for being an honest mechanic. So I called and Charlie answered and told me he was alitte busy but to come in on Wednesday, which it was Monday, he told me come in at 930am. Not very often when 1 shop refers you to another shop. In this case I'm glad the 1st shop also had my best interest in mind when they referred me to Charlie! I brought my rear wheel in because it had a broken pulley bolt in the thread, not good! Charlie and his Team inspected it and offered up a few options, turned out they were able remove the bolt with the 1st option. Charlie was great about calling to update me, he also noticed the axle spacer was incorrect and would cause problems if not corrected. He really had my safety and best interest as a priority.
