We found Sew Used and were quickly impressed. The shop is located in Tempe's adorable and new (at least to us) Culdesac neighborhood. The shop is very well organized and CLEAN! The pieces on their racks were washed and carefully curated. I appreciated how they offer a large array of size options and fits. In addition to clothing, they also have a small section of wall decor, tapestries, and knick knacks. The prices were fair as well. We're already talking about returning to this shop in the future!

I was here today, and found a halogen floor lamp I wanted, but it was priced $24.95, which is way…read moretoo high. When I pointed this out to employee, he said it was priced wrong, and he went to change it All this took about 45 min, cos the girls at the cashiers didn't know how to handle it, cos the yellow tag had to be printed in red, but yellow was the 50% off price for the week. They didn't have any yellow tags, so how do they tell the cash register this. I did end up getting the floor lamp for $7.25 (half of $14.50, the floor lamp's revised price), but other lamps had no price at all. It takes about 30 min for someone to get you a price, when there is none, cos this happened to me several times in the past. I still don't know if this halogen lamp works, because it is missing the light bulb. Halogen floor lamps are from the 1980's and are no longer sold, because they started too many house fires. This one is also missing the light bulb fire guard (keeps curtains from touching the bulb), and I have to make one. But the lamp points to the ceiling and is to bright (500 watts) and intense (and HOT), that one light bulb bounces off the ceiling and lights the entire room with diffused light. So I really like them! This store has too many items that don't have prices. Also items that are priced pretty high such as electrical tools, but their rechargeable batteries are always missing, or vacuum cleaner with the brush roller totally missing.. Of course, as with most thrift shops, so many things are priced more than new retail. Sundays are senior and military 25% discount, but today I got 50% discount,, due to yellow tag this week, so only one discount. I miss the days when all the Goodwills in AZ had 50% off everything in the store every other Saturday. That stopped during Covid and never brought back. To this day, at age 72, I never made more than $21,313 in any year I worked, in my life! I averaged less than $10,000. So I am grateful for Goodwill. I even bought many things to decorate an AirBnB rental, at various Goodwills, and other thrift shops. I can't pass one without going in to see what is a good deal that day. I just purchased a $45 (on Amazon) super light camping table that folds up, and legs retract, to the size of a school 3 ring binder. for $9 with my senior discount, that I found in the front of a Goodwill, by the window. I am so delighted with it, and love doing "show and tell" at each campsite, that I got it for $9.

Although the store itself isn't very big, the deals definitely are! I found so many crafty things, some good pairs of pants, phone cases and home decor. Some of these items were brand new too! And the used ones were in incredible condition and marked tested - which I appreciated. Clerks are also super nice With this being a smaller store though, the area is pretty reduced for shoppers. Especially if kiddos are stroller age, I'd recommend using a smaller umbrella stroller.

One of my children had requested a desk. Having heard that ASU has a property surplus, I decided to…read morecheck it out. Immediately greeted upon entering. We were asked if we had been to the warehouse before. Answering that we hadn't, it was explained that auction items are on the left, and items for sale are on the right. These are primarily items the university has replaced, or items students and staff have left behind. Rows of mismatched office desks to choose from. We settled on a smaller sized deck. It is older yet built to last. It is probably a good 20 years old, and possibly has another 20 years of life in it. The desk was only $10! For another $5, an all plastic chair with wheels was purchased to go with it. I was hoping to find a bookshelf as well. The bookshelves they had were either not in the style or condition I wanted. Along with office furniture, the ASU Surplus store side has computers, laptops, random office equipment and clothing. Surprisingly, they even had dozens of cleats that were new in the box. Unfortunately, they did not have cleats in the size/sport combinations that would work for any of my children. The auction side was a crazy mix of items. See photos. On the day of my visit, there was a mix of large machinery. Auctions are run through an online auction house. Checking out was easy. The guy who helped me was polite. He was very nice about assisting me in loading my purchase into my vehicle. Make sure to bring a credit or debit card. ASU Property Surplus does not accept cash. All sales are final. Items are as-is.

I initially put myself in line for the Phoenix location but the wait was about 30-40 minutes. After about 15 minutes of waiting in-store, I was called to the front. If they take any of your clothes, you just show a government ID. If you want to cash out, you get 25% of what their pricing is. Otherwise, the store credit is 50%. They took about 1/3 of my items and it came to $96ish and I got $48.12 in cash. I wanted to get rid of my clothes and not so much make money so to me it didn't matter but if you're trying to get your money's worth I'd probably sell online instead or do a garage sale. They have costumes, purses, shoes, hats, and a range of clothing pieces. Everyone working is friendly and helpful.
