I'm not sure who is making the decisions for this nonprofit, but the recent changes have been really disappointing. This used to be a store where people with limited means could walk in and find something decent and affordable to wear. I don't understand how items that are donated for free are now being priced at $12. That feels like an excessive markup for a thrift store. Thrift stores are meant to serve community members who are struggling and help meet basic needs. Adding the word "vintage" to the name doesn't seem like it should justify doubling prices. It feels concerning that an organization that claims to support children may now be putting additional strain on families who are already having a hard time, especially when the merchandise is donated. The shift reminds me of the pricing philosophy at Goodwill Industries International, which is one reason I stopped shopping there. I used to be a weekly customer. Now I only stop in occasionally if I happen to be nearby. Overall, this has been very disappointing. read more

What happened here? It used to be so nice and well organized and now looks like a Goodwill Clearance Center. The prices have increased and there's so.much chaos in the unorganized store. Please return back to normal. The boutique looked well put together that's where the 2 stars come in. The outside boutique area was overpriced for some damaged and rained on items. read more

Nice place for finding things you didn't know you needed. Caution on calling to pick up donations, we had scheduled for pickup and received a text of their coming arrival. No show, and when asking via a call the next day Evon hung up. Not a way to treat people. Not our first donation and we live in a gated area that requires prior approval to enter. i went to sunshine acres for community service and had an absolutely wonderful experience. the women in the front office were incredibly ready and helpful with information, and so, so kind. i did groundwork with Tim, who was so awesome. Tim does an absolute amazing job at keeping sunshine acres super beautiful, clean, and well groomed. Tim was so nice and even told me about sunshine acres full history! This self reliant, family owned children's home is truly a safe haven for all families who live here. the passion and care all of the employees have for the children is incredibly admirable. Bought a table and two chairs, and a recliner, all in good condition, and I'm very happy with them. But was bowled over when I discovered that since I didn't have any way to haul the items home, their delivery charge is $90 for the first 10 miles. I was desperate and after explaining exactly what the delivery landscape was, paid to have the items delivered. When the gentlemen came to make the delivery, they indicated that their manager had told them they were not to take items up steps that had a railing... I expressed my unhappiness for that addendum, and one of the gentlemen indicated that he thought they could get the items up the steps no problem.. which they did... Up the three steps and through the wide door and into my trailer with no problem. How could that even be considered in a place where so many people live in exactly that landscape, ie, steps outside of a trailer? I appreciate the gentleman persevering, but question the manager who would make that directive, and apparently not even notifying the clerk that I bought the furniture from of that condition. read more

My family and I came here for years. My kids always want to go to the thief store. But I can't bring them here anymore. The prices are insanely going up. We used to go get cloths and a couple toys and spend some time there. Now I don't want to go at all. It's sad. Whoever took over in the last 6-8 months is taking the store down. Forgot what they are there for. $125 for computer ink the I just bought at Walmart for $40. $150 for a PS1 that you can get online for $50. Toothbrush for $50 that you get at the store for $25. I don't know who's in charge but you just lost a weekly shopper. read more

The prices in the boutique are outrageous. I realize it's for a good cause, but I've seen the same items sit there for months and months- some of it sits outside behind the boutique area and gets so destroyed by the outdoor elements that it becomes impossible to sell after awhile. I also bought something in the boutique on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 . I paid the lady $25 in cash and did not get a receipt. I wasn't even offered a receipt nor did I see or hear any cash register sounds or movement. I hope it was rung up- read more

Very disappointed - I tried to donate 3 beautiful couches I had them outside and ready to go- Pickup-Workers claimed they were stained- THEY were not-Its a shame they have lazy unethical people working for them- Sunshine Acres could of made at the very least $800-$1000 on these- Unfortunately never again-I had to keep it outside overnight and now I have been fined by the HOA-I agree with the other posts_ they are lazy and don't want to move bigger furniture_ They are giving Sunshine Acres a BAD NAME- read more

I am leaving a horrible review for sun shine acres. We had a pick up in Sunlakes. We had a set of Italian leather furniture, that needed to be picked up. They texted and said they were on there way. We were at home waiting for them to come and they did not knock or ring the doorbell . So I looked outside and we received a post card from sunshine, sorry we missed you you need to call and reschedule an appointment to pick up the furniture. My mom and I were here and we heard nothing from them. I am giving a 0 rating. Even though the bar requirements you to give a star above. The donations department is not reliable. We will think twice before donating anything to them in the future read more

I wish I had read reviews before loading two perfectly good chairs w/ottomans in my truck and driving 30 miles to donate them...I didn't realize they only accepted brand new items! I took them to Goodwill where they happily accepted them. read more

I recently had purchased the lighting fixture that was purchased in a box that was unopened by me. It had been taped up either by the store that it originally came from or by Sunshine acres. I'm assuming it was a donation from a local hardware store since they had a bunch of other boxed lighting fixtures. I did not know they had a no return policy. I had the receipt and they would not honor it. They would not even give me store credit. So, I just left it with them as a loss to me. I realize the thrift store helps out the kid's home but it's unreasonable not to allow for a return or exchange on an item that was clearly in the same condition I bought it in. I used to find value here but lately the items have been overpriced for the condition they are in. This was the event that determined I will support other causes and shop at other stores. Wish they handled the situation differently, but it was their choice. read more

The children's home is a wonderful place! The resale store that supports the children's home is another story. It used to be a fun place to volunteer at and a fun place to shop. Not anymore! Most of the prices are ridiculous for donated items and has turned into a store full of junk. I believe they have a hard time selling unless they have a large percentage off. I have Always had a special place in my heart for Sunshine Acres. For the past 12 plus years I have given to their Christmas program etc. I called a few weeks ago to donate some household items including two dressers a mirror. The lady told me that they could not pick up until today. I informed her that I had no room inside to store them, It had been raining for the past week with more on the way & I pleaded that sooner then later would be best. She checked again and came back on the phone to say that was the best that she could do for pick the up time. I informed her that I would do everything humanly possible to preserve them & I did just that. I put them up on blocks and covered them with tarps and whatever else I could find. The rains came & went several times during that period with each and everytime it would stop, I rotate the tarps & the blocks & covered them. I did this over & over for Two weeks! The pick up guys were just here and i informed them of my diligence but they turned their noses up at my donation. Wow so after all of that I now need to hire someone to come haul them off Time & Effort Wasted! NEVER AGAIN!! read more

A clean, well organized store with friendly staff. Unfortunately, many of the prices, especially in the children's toy section are insane. Over the past few months it's gotten worse. It appears as if someone is pricing to what the items are listed at on Ebay. The stock does not turn that often (again because the prices are so high compared to other thrift stores in the area that always have new items). The other day they put out a basket of various kids' VHS tapes - old, generic, random tapes that were priced at $10.00 each! What??? Price gouging on kids' toys is just greedy, especially when most of these toys were donated by well meaning people thinking that the toys would go to children in their care. Pricing on kids' books is great - 2/$1.00. But the adult books at $3.00 each is even higher than Goodwill's crazy prices. The pricing in the boutique is oddly high as well. For a building that is literally stuffed to the gills with items, maybe more reasonable prices would move more product and in turn earn more money for your children's home? read more

I've been familiar with Sunshine Acres for as long as I can remember, but my mom and I just recently checked out their thrift store and boutique and we've been back two more times since then. Lol! We also checked out the Apache Junction location today. It's not quite as big as the one on Higley, but still very nice. They take great care of everything that comes in. Furniture is so clean! It's a great place to look around. It really feels like a store. It doesn't have that dirty, grungy feeling that some thrift store places can have. They redo the boutique about every few weeks, I believe. My parents have taken so much to the "other donation place" that everyone usually goes to, but now we will always go to Sunshine Acres for sure. They had a truck come pick up their headboard/footboard and were very happy with Sunshine Acres' service. Would love to take their tour one of these days. This place is truly a miracle in the desert! 13 of us came to volunteer to clean and shine the dinning hall, kitchen, and stock the supply rooms. We cleaned, scrubbed, vaccumed, stocked, swiped, etc. for a few hours. The staff was very friendly and appreciate our time and support. We got to watch a video to learn more about the facility and they offered a tour too. Hopefully our few hours brighted someone's day. I learned: They do not turn away childern for finanical reasons. They do not receive goverment support for the children and though we they donor funded, they do not fundraise or soliciate for themselves. Mission statement: Our Mission is to provide a loving, wholesome, Christian home for children who are separated from their parents and help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures, preparing them for success in adult life. Sunshine Acres is more than a home, we are family. read more

I love shopping at sunshine acres children's home. So many people donate great stuff to them because it benefits the orphanage. I love that any time a buy from them, almost all of the money goes to the benefit of the children. Sunshine is not a government institution, and its funded by donations. The people who work there are quite often volunteers, and all very friendly. The choices of things to buy seem endless, and they are very well priced. Win/win, as I'm concerned. They also have 2 locations, so if you dont find what you are looking for in one, go to the other. Extremely satisfying experience. read more

I lived here when I was 12 and they're so amazing! I had a different situation than most and they handled it very well and made sure I went to a safe good placement after them. I will never forget Michael the manager at the time he took me with his family for Christmas when I had no where to go and he always treated me like one of his own kids. The staff are so wonderful! Dunno about the charity side of the biz, can't speak to that. This is strictly about the shops. The prices CAN be high, but the items are quality, so I believe it's a fair price. I was looking at a solid wood armoire for $300 which was a bit shocking until I looked at the same thing online at over a grand. There are high quality items here and they're priced accordingly. On the other side, if you're looking for bargains, they're here also. I found a pair of CCM hockey skates, well sharpened and that fit me for $3. it costs $10 to sharpen a set of blades to I'm already $7 ahead and got a free set of skates. I bought handfuls of seeds (packed for 2018) for ten cents each. I did a lot of my end-of-the-world shopping in the seed bins. The skates will come in handy when Phoenix freezes over this August. Overall, the place is fun, clean and well organized. If they sold Swedish meatballs it would put Ikea out of business. read more

This is an organization that keeps children out of the foster care system when their parents are going through difficult times. I have donated and they are very prompt and courteous. A much better place to donate Un needed items. I haven't visited there thrift shop so I can't give them five stars. I hear their prices are a bit high. But so are GoodwillsI. I know most people just call Goodwill but they do not even pay their mentally challenged employees. Minimum-wage. The government( hard-working taxpayers) picks up the tab for the underpayment deficit . Goodwill says they say they provide job training but I know someone who tried to get into their "job training" for two years and never could. Their upper management makes six figures plus plus plus so to me somebody must be making a profit. I am happy that I found sunshine acres because I know that the money generated will go to a great cause and save tax dollars. read more

This is a wonderful and important organization opened in 1954 caring for children and supported by community monetary and household donations. Over the decades, since 1991 I have proudly supported monetary fundraisers and donated many quality items many, many times. Despite some negative reviews, they are governed by certain restrictions, and still need our support. read more

Love visiting this place! I never leave empty handed. They are much more organized than other thrift stores, have friendly staff, and seem to offer items that are only 'gently used'...I never see any unusable 'junk' on the shelves like in other thrift stores. And I know my money is going toward a good cause! read more
