I was at the owners were there so have some time I have a conversation with them and they were super nice and friendly. Let us walk around the entire shop and answer all questions and total some history. It's a college vibe but not an undergrad vibe if that makes any sense. You may see some grass students or whatever the case may be, but you wouldn't find a bunch of 19-year-olds piled up in this kind of spot. It used to be small apparently but they expanded it out to a back room and an attic kind of situation. It seems like a attic kickback kind of spot. Really homish or something you will find in a living room. It made it on the top list of speakeasies on Yelp so I had to check it out while I was in the area. I would 100% recommend.

Walking up to the bar it's a bit hard to find, but look for the wooden sign that says "Belltree" off of Brewer Lane than you've located this bar. Walking into the bar you'll feel like you've walked into a grown up, local, and upscale speakeasy. For my drink I ordered the last word cocktail (house gin, luxardo maraschino, green chartreuse, and lime juice). The drink was excellent and the bartender explained how rare it is to find a bar with green chartreuse as it became a huge staple during the pandemic. Overall this bar was good, and definitely worth checking out for a drink or two.

We were looking for a new bar to try in Carrboro and saw B-Tribe on Yelp, and we're glad we did…read more The entrance is very unassuming, almost hidden behind an Italian restaurant on the south end of Car Mill Mall. The place is quite small, with about five tables, and maybe 12 seats at the bar. We sat at the bar as we only wanted drinks and snack. Christian, the bartender, greeted us right away and brought food and drink menus. He explained the specials and took our drink orders. My companion found an interesting Greek white wine, and I asked for a boulevardier, my go-to cocktail for a new place. The wine was to her liking, and the cocktail was about the best example I've had in recent memory. Christian used Woodford Reserve bourbon and Campari rather than Aperol so it had a slightly less bitter taste and was a lovely auburn color. The food menu was very interesting, with lots of items we've never tried. We ordered caesar salad with anchovies, green beans in garlic-soup sauce, panella (a chick-pea and cream cheese dish), and seasoned French fries. It was all yummy and delivered together. The service we got really couldn't have been much better: attentive without hovering. The food and drink quality was outstanding, and we thought the prices were very reasonable for what we got. In short, thanks Christian, and we'll be back.

As such, the host placed us directly behind him -- the closest table to the door. It was far from packed, and I suppose I could have asked to move and mess up however he mapped out reservations, but wow. Like we were so close that if I looked over, I could see his head, and I'm sure he could hear our entire conversation. My boyfriend started with a cappuccino and I had their cocktail special, a gin with lime drink. Both were tasty. We also each ordered a bowl of the potato and leek soup. The soup was good but did need to be seasoned pretty heavily. For our entrees, my boyfriend had the pork belly and I had a savory egg tart. They didn't have asparagus so it was 3-cheese instead. It was good but did remind me of something I could've made at home, so the price felt a bit inflated. We both wrapped our meals with espresso. The prices were definitely on the higher side and I felt a little disconnected from the restaurant at our table. I probably wouldn't return as I didn't feel the food quality matched the prices, but it wasn't a "bad" experience either.

Everyone is super nice and makes you feel right at home. I stopped in for a football game, decked in rival gear and was greeted like family. We visited Still Life's new location in Chapel Hill a couple weekends ago. I was impressed. I…read moredidn't know Chapel Hill had an "upscale" dance/nightclub with a sexy, big city vibe to it. We hung out at "The Loft" bar and lounge on the 3rd floor which I believe is 25-and-up only. The Loft is like a covered rooftop patio with outside views on three sides, none of which face Franklin St directly, unfortunately. But still, it's a cool, sleek spot with a nice-looking bar, white couches, and high-tops. We stayed up in The Loft and never went downstairs where, presumably, the main club and dance floor are located. As we drove down Franklin St to get here, after 11pm on a Saturday night, we saw a line of what looked like undergrad-aged kids waiting to get in. So, I'm not sure what the atmosphere was like downstairs, but things were very "mature," chill, and relaxed upstairs. I didn't feel like I was on Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill. We parked for free in the James Wallace Parking Deck, accessible behind Still Life via E Rosemary St. The deck is next to "Amber Alley," which connects the back side of the buildings to Franklin St. On the deck side of the alley, our big group (who had a connection and called ahead) literally got red carpet treatment. Our IDs were checked and we were given wristbands to access The Loft. We took the glass elevator up and down and there were stairs too. Parking in the Wallace Deck was free because we parked outside the hours of operation: 8am-8pm, Monday-Saturday except holidays. According to Still Life Chapel Hill's Instagram page, their rooftop-only soft opening was July 8 and their entire-venue grand opening is two weeks from today on Friday, August 19th: https://www.instagram.com/stilllifeunc/. Currently, there is another Still Life location in Greenville (NC): https://www.yelp.com/biz/still-life-greenville-6. And there used to be a Still Life in Raleigh: https://www.yelp.com/biz/still-life-nightclub-raleigh. I believe this space used to be The Strowd (https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-strowd-chapel-hill) and before that, the Players club (https://www.yelp.com/biz/players-chapel-hill). When my friends were undergrads at UNC, they came to Players. Yep, we're old. Anyway, we had a good time at Still Life and I think this is a club worth checking out. Also, the bartenders were nice and the espresso martini I tried was good. Well made, and nice and strong.
