Gonzales Mexican Restaurant is a typical Oklahoma small town Mexican restaurant. The menu is a blend of Tex-Mex and Traditional (all authentic) Mexican food. You will find your favorite meal or a combination of items to suit your preference. The salsa is a mild tomato sauce: picante is available. I had the Michuacan: Tri colored enchiladas, aka, Mexican flag. It was a chicken with sour cream, a cheese with ranchera and a beef with Verde sauce, rice and beans, served up on a hot plate. It was good, well-seasoned food. My only critique is focused on the cheese enchilada. The cheese was chewy. My wife had the beef taco salad. It was served up differently than most. The seasoned ground beef was on top of the lettuce. But the cook had allowed the beef to cool slightly, so that it did not wilt the lettuce. Nice little taco salad. Fast friendly service. Comfortable, attractive dining room. Eat here, the food is good, actually the best Mexican restaurant in town. Note: The local po-po here want your money. Drive easy coming into town and keep your radar detector on. Every little town in southern Oklahoma have speed traps. Other: The section of US-75 from Coalgate north to Interstate 40 is a relaxing scenic drive. It may be a good tour for fall foliage colors. read more

The food is piping hot, smells good to your table. The wait staff is ready to seat you with a smile. The wait staff keeps the drinks fills, they asks if we need anything it not to often. I enjoy the authentic experience and cozy atmosphere. Sundays are always very busy and they close early in the afternoon around 2:00pm. read more

My wife and I ate here Feb 22, 2020. We drove to Coalgate after going to a basketball game and found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Outside, it looked really nice so that helped us decide to go in. Inside it was clean and nice too. We ordered queso and liked it. As a main course, my wife ordered the (I wanna say Guerrero Burrito) which she really liked. We had asked the server what she recommended and she said anything with brisket in it was very good, so I ordered the brisket quesadilla. Best quesadilla I've ever had. The prices are good and the food was excellent. I don't get to Coalgate much (like hardly ever really), but it was a treat to eat here and was very satisfying. The staff was also very friendly. If I ever get back to Coalgate, I WILL be eating here again! read more

The small town of Coalgate finally has a restaurant that's not a burger and chicken fried steak place. I like how clean and how nice the place looks on the inside. The people running it are authentic Mexicans who seem to be happy to see you. Their fajitas are some of the best I have ever had. Asked for no onions on my meal and it came loaded with onions so I sent it back and the own came out and tried to argue with me that there was no onions on it when I clearly had them sitting on the plate. I live in Texas but bought retirement land north of Coalgate about a year ago. In my runs back and forth from Texas to the land I have seen this restaurant pretty much since the first time I drove through Coalgate to the land but had never stopped by to try their food until a little over 2 months ago. I have been eating there ever since. I was really surprised at the quality of the food there. The food is really good, the wait staff is GREAT, the prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean with a very pleasant atmosphere. I and my family will be enjoying many meals there in the future. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a good tex-mex meal and friendly service. read more

we went there to day 10/22/2022 at 12 pm lunch time we drove out there from Eufaula ok hoping to get some good Mexican food my wife ordered the carnitas and I ordered the Acapulco chicken when we got our food order my food came out good and my wife's food was not that good looking, she told me that it smells and looked a little rancid or been setting out for some time she had already taken a couple of bites of the meat and that's when she told it was not fresh and tasted rancid I took a piece of the meat and smelled it and it smelled like old rancid lard and the meat tasted the same old and rancid we call the waitress over and my wife told her the problem with her order that the meat was old and rancid and was nor safe to eat so the waitress took my wife's food plate back and the management didn't even bother to come over and apologize for the bad food plate at least they didn't charge us for it but even when we went to pay our bill we told the cashier the problem with the food and all she said was ok and no apologies for the bad food needless to say we won't be back again they didn't even said they were sorry long drive for bad food and my wife got sick on the way home I hope she won't get food poisoning read more
