Hamburgers were good. Service was good. Very nice atmosphere. For a small town the prices are too high for barbecue.

The outdoor area was awesome for the kids to play, and being in a plaza with other shops makes it an easy family stop. Now for the food plot twist. I ordered the pulled pork, ribs, and chicken. The chicken showed up ready to represent the whole team--tender, smoky, and honestly the MVP of the tray. The pulled pork, however, tasted like it had been placed into the warming tray first thing that morning and was still serving overtime by the time I got there. The ribs looked like competition BBQ, but flavor-wise they mainly introduced me to black pepper and then left the conversation. Sides review: the twice baked potatoes were seasoned well and definitely pulled their weight. The mac and cheese was okay--nothing offensive, nothing life-changing, just there for moral support. Overall, this place has a lot going for it: great service, family-friendly setup, clean atmosphere, and some real potential. But the BBQ was more of a split decision than a knockout.

Brisket Pulled Pork Smoked Turkey Pork Ribs Hot Links and finally... Smoked Baloney. Potato Salad, White Mac and Cheese, Texas Toast, Pickle and Onion. Everything was smoked perfectly - even the baloney, which surprised both of us eating there - and absolutely tender. The meats aren't dripping in sauce which is often used to moisten a bad cook or to disguise poor flavors. Nope. If you want a saucy meal, it's a "self-inflicted wound" in my books, because you're missing out on some great well cooked meat. We didn't go there for side options, so reviewing them isn't the point. I did not see either a Corn Bread or a Biscuit choice which I would have chosen, but took the usual's just to see how they're done at Rustlers. I'm not a banana for dessert fan, that is, until my dinner guest forced me to have some of Rustlers Banana Pudding. I am now a rabid fan of banana's for dessert. Yes, it's that good. Don't keep whistling down the highway at 80+MPH trying to get somewhere faster than you should. Slow down, stop in, and get some well made BBQ. Sure, you're going to have the "meat sweats" once you've had your fill, but it's all well worth it in the end.

The brisket and pulled pork were some of the best I've had, and the portions felt like a really good value. Because the brisket and pulled pork were so good, I went back last night as a birthday treat and ordered the 2-meat platter with just those meats. Unfortunately, it was a totally different experience. The brisket was overcooked and dry, and the pulled pork was mostly small, dry chunks of bark instead of the juicy, tender pork I had the first time. On top of that, the portions were about the same size as what came in the sampler, which was disappointing considering you get 5 meats with the platter. I really wanted this visit to be just as good as the first because that first meal set the bar so high. They were pretty busy so maybe that impacted the quality of meat I got, but I was pretty bummed out, especially at these prices. I'd be willing to give them a third chance someday, but for now I'll probably be checking out a different BBQ spot.
