I've been wanting to try bubble tea for the absolute longest so I figured it was time. There were 2 ladies working in this establishment when I arrived to place my order. I placed an order for 2 of my children and myself. I've never been to a bubble tea place before nor have I ever tasted it. I asked questions and still had a bit of trouble understanding how ordering works and what comes in the tea. The one young lady appeared to be slightly frustrated with me and my questions. Once I explained to her that I've never had bubble tea, she seemed to soften up a bit. The other young lady was very kind and patient from the beginning. Her name was Mia. I bought 3 drinks - a total of about $20 because I had some extras mixed in. Unfortunately the order got mixed up and I didn't realize it until I got home. Tasting the tea was interesting. I liked that it was creamy and sweet but I did not like the bubbles. Fun fact: those little bubbles are made up of tapioca. It's a starch packed with sugar and calories. Some 16 oz teas containing as much as 440 calories depending on what's served. After tasting just a few of those not so tasty balls (they taste like flour *yuck.*) I poured my tea out. My son agreed. He did not like his bubbles in the tea either. My daughter on the other hand was drinking a citrus drink no bubbles. She was okay with her drink. All in all, I would not buy this tea again. The bubble tea at Gong Cha is consistent, reliable, and good. It does seem to be decently more expensive than Kung Fu Tea and the portions feel pretty small. The green tea itself is great, not bitter or over-brewed. I ordered a honey green tea ($6) and after adding the pearl and herbal jelly, it was over $8! Maybe it's more worth it if you get the fancy foam or slush drinks that they have to make but it is definitely overpriced for a basic green tea that they are pouring into a cup. While I enjoyed my drink and the boba and jelly were good, I definitely could get a green tea elsewhere for less than $3. read more

My wife went here 2 weeks ago, used a credit card and was told the transaction didn't go thru so she used a second card, no problem. She then found that both charges went thru, she went back and was told by the person behind the counter that the first transaction was voided and she should receive a refund within a few days... Didn't happen. She went back and then was told " nothing we can do about it, call your bank" why not just give her another drink no charge, which she suggested, she was then told " oh we can't do that" that was their final decision. My favorite dessert drink here is pretty much anything from their dirty brown sugar line. The brown sugar drinks tend to be on the sweeter side so I usually go with 50% sugar. This is my go to bubble tea place within Essex county! They don't have much competition compared to other areas, but there is a Kungfu Tea down the street. They only have street parking, but it's not too hard to find a spot, even on a Sunday afternoon. (Also, it's free street parking on Sundays!) I've gone a couple times so far and they've always been consistent with their drinks. I know bubble tea is more of a dessert drink, but if you don't like it too sweet you should definitely get 30%. It'll still be sweet, but it won't be too overwhelming. My only complaint is that there isn't much space inside, not a huge problem during the pandemic, but it will be when we can drink indoors again. Although they don't have much control over it, since it's in downtown Millburn, I hope they can get creative with the space in the future. read more

I was checking out hot and new restaurants nearby when I saw Gongcha in the list! This tea chain has been my ultimate favorite even back home in Manila. I've tried Gongcha in Manila, Seoul and NYC - I've always been fascinated with their consistency with that certain real tea flavor. I'm glad there's one here in NJ now. This Millburn branch still lived up to my Gongcha expectations! I always order Earl Grey with 3Js, while my husband ordered Earl Grey with pearls. The pearls were cooked well and with the right consistency! Grass Jelly and pudding had very good flavor too. The store was very clean and with guidelines that only 6 people can stay indoors, just for order and take out (due to covid). I think that this place's bubble tea is consistently very good. My sister and I come here frequently and are never disappointed by the drinks. However, when I took a sip of my bubble tea today, I was absolutely horrified when I felt something scratch the top of my mouth. I promptly spat it out (sorry, tmi) and the object was a thin strand of metal that was the consistency of a twist tie (it was hard and bendy, see pics below). 2 stars reduction for consistently poor service and attitude. For example, when they get our order wrong, they offer absolutely zero apology and refuse to correct it.
