It shouldn't be so hard to donate furniture and other goods when so many people are in need of things, but I didn't have much success finding an organization to pick up furniture during the pandemic. With new furniture on the way I decided I just needed it gone and did request a quote on Yelp for junk removal. Jeff from Gone Guys was the most responsive and the best price so hired. When I reached out to ask him to come they weren't available for another 6 days, but I just delayed a few furniture deliveries and made it work. They arrived a bit early for the 11am move and got right to work. I was a bit paranoid about our walls since we had just painted (prob good to remove the furniture first), but they were very careful and there no issues. The entire move itself probably took them 20 min granted it was only a few rooms of furniture. As instructed they left half of it at the end of my driveway for someone to pick up and the rest of it went off in the trunk. It made me a bit sad to see some furniture in good condition being junked, but hopefully they found a good home for it. And all this for $150 (easily paid via venmo), which was by far the best price I found from my research. Needed a couch, cabinet and old fire pit hauled off. Couch was in the basement that has a weird little spiral staircase up, couch is also a large L shape that can split into 3 pieces. The Gone Guys removed all in about 30 minutes and were so careful (no dings or scratches on my walls). Also, the initial process with Jeff was so easy. We just used Gone Guys last week. We sold my mother's house that she lived in since 1958. We had one month until the closing. My mother was organized but there was a LOT of stuff from their business, including heavy furniture and a lifetime of memories. Jeff quoted a price for the job, that was extremely reasonable and that it would take 5-6 hours to clear out. 9 workers, 4 trucks, and 6 hours... OMG, they were amazing. Gone Guys was not only the most reasonable bid, but they were also extremely communicative and FAST. I had an estimate less than 24 hrs of reaching out, scheduled removal a week later, and they were done removing in a matter of hours. My mother passed away from Brain cancer quite suddenly. She had a small 2 bedroom basement apartment that needed to be completely emptied. My sister met with Jeff, the owner, and we both agreed his company GONE GUYS was gonna do the job. After a few texts to confirm time and location we were all set. The guys arrived on time, 4 guys - 2 trucks! As they emptied the apartment, They took the time to point out some pics in boxes I might want to look thru (which I did.) I needed help cleaning out a large storage unit that my father left when he passed away. Time was tight with COVID-19 spreading quickly (this was mid-March 2020) and me wanting to get rid of the rental bill for the unit. Jeff was able to meet me there within a few days of my initial email to him, and we were able to schedule for the cleanout within a week and half. Jeff's price was more than reasonable, and he offered me a substantial discount (a fixed dollar amount that would have been 45% of the original fee) on top of that in exchange for a suitcase of stamps and coins that were part of the estate property (ultimately, we decided to keep the stamps and coins, so we didn't take the discount deal, but Jeff's offer would have been a very easy way to get real value for them with no work). As more and more services shut down for COVID-19, Jeff emailed me to say that disposable was going to cost a bit more because some of his usual channels were shut down. He asked for an increase in the price, which was reasonable both in absolute dollar and percentage terms. Under the circumstances, I agreed. I was willing to trust Jeff that increased disposal costs really were the issue, and that he would not ask to go back on agreed price under normal circumstances. On the Day, Jeff's crew met me at the storage unit exactly on time, and we got to work. I was opening and checking boxes to pull keeper items, and the crew moving boxes up from the locker for me to check, then sorting obvious trash in one truck from stuff to be sorted in the other. The whole process took less than 3 hours, and a I had a huge load off my mind. Perfect service. Also, the crew and I maintained social distancing; I wore surgical gloves, and I am certain that no virus spread from me to any of them or vice-verse. read more

Where do I start, describing the company that saved me from what was nearly three years of agony, worrying about how I would ever clear my parents' home of nearly 50 years.? I live on the West Coast and my brother on the East Coast. My parents were original owners of a house in Vernon Hills built in 1974. Aside from the 1974 move they had moved two times previously in 1968 and 1961 and never completely unpacked boxes from either move. The basement therefore was a nightmare. I had already shredded nearly 300 pounds of receipts, files, statements, etc before the Gone Guys came. Their collection of personal items was not much better. Although most things were in great shape, the house was jam packed with furniture, clothing, and novelty cutesy crap that my mother loved and couldn't part with. They never threw out anything Every closet and every drawer was full when you opened it. Now she was a widow (92!) and for the past three years, living in assisted living. 90% of what she/they owned was still in that house. For three years, she couldn't accept she wasn't going back and I couldn't imagine how I would ever clear it when she finally realized it. Although I made several trips to IL to go through things, it never looked any less full. I knew there was an immense amount of items that could either be sold or donated but no one was there to do that. I lost so much sleep over that house. Enter Jeff, Gone Guy owner. I knew instantly his company was up for the task, although it still took another 8 months for her to accept she was never going to have room for her furniture or stuff in a 500 sq ft one bedroom assisted living apartment. Jeff brought 4 trucks and 10 or 11 guys. Within about 5 hours, everything was out of there. Every room, every closet, every drawer cleared. The nightmare in the basement was the worst, but they got everything out of it, too. They even swept afterwards. I know I am not alone in this situation where you are relegated to clearing a family home of decades. You truly have to get to the place mentally where you can do it, but when you do, Gone Guys is the ONLY company you should call. Best of all, they don't just haul junk and throw it away. They sell it, donate it or dispose of it (only when an item no longer has any use.) Thank you Jeff, and your large, respectful crew that made an impossible situation manageable. We started a well overdo decluttering project in August and hired Gone guys to take care of the first leg which included the removal of some very bulking early 2000 electronics and heavy cherry desk from my upstairs office. We know this would be a laborious job and yes could have asked neighbors to roll up their sleeves and help -but in the end, having Jeff's guys are care was the right and best decision. It also proved to be very economical as it's all one stop whereas individually I would have made multiple trips to electronic recycling stations. Jeff provide a quote based on pictures sent , the team arrived and was very courteous and respectful of our home. The job took about 2 hours and I was very happy with the results.
