I got fitted at Club Champion in Tampa a couple of years ago but was recently wondering how the hell the kid fitted me when I couldn't hit a golf ball to save my life the day of the fitting. I ended up purchasing a set of golf clubs anyway and have been pretty happy with them but I wanted to get a professional's opinion on my shafts, gapping, and lofts. So, I scheduled a club fitting at GolfTec by Ala Moana and was assigned to Justin. Justin was super helpful and didn't make me feel like an idiot. He spoke plainly and at a level I could understand... And he genuinely seemed to love what he did as an instructor and club fitter. He had me hit a couple of 7 irons and looked at what was already in my bag. He said he thought what I had was good for where I'm at but built me an updated version of my 7 iron with a different shaft just to check it out. He must've had it ready because he came back into the room in less than five minutes. He talked me through a couple of things and then showed me some video of myself swinging next to a prerecorded pro. He gave me two tips and said he wouldn't charge me for the visit. I was super grateful. After leaving, I took his tips straight to Ala Wai Driving Range and immediately hit the ball better. He immediately identified my swing issues, and then gave comprehensive swing solutions. He used the Golftec technology to show what metrics needed to be improved, and showed how to fix them. And he's got a really friendly and relaxed attitude, so you feel at ease. My handicap went from +30 to about 10. I also did a wedge fitting for two wedges (60 and 54), and that alone has shaved strokes off my game. Way more hole-out birdies. read more

If you enjoy the game, but are currently not scoring like you used to, I highly recommend you sign up for lessons. I was not having fun anymore. My goal was to have an open mind and work past my old ways and learn better mechanics to start enjoying the game again. I am certainly more confident and understand better fundamental skills. I came here to learn more about golf and how to play golf. Golftec was recommended by a UH golf student to come here to learn golf when I asked where I should go on island. I have absolutely no prior golf experience, only putt-putt socially with friends and I wanted/interested to learn golf without building any bad habits. I'm over all very pleased. I purchased 5 lesson package without practice sessions. I purchased 5 since I'm a new to golf and didn't know how I would end up liking my lessons or if I really enjoyed golf. But, I do! It actually has been really enjoying, I think it has to do with the teacher I have and the positive coaching environment that has made the sport fun and I see progress with each lesson. My coach is Chris Bonner. Excellent. He's really attentive and really passionate about teaching and making sure I have good form. He is full of detailed explanation, He's able to explain all the why you do what you do questions I have. Knows the science of golf! He's patient. I have not tried the other teachers. I did come in once and bumped into another student that happened to also be taking with Chris and he said he was referred to Chris by a friend because of his passion for teaching. And that guy has been playing a lot longer then me and was on his 6th lesson. So that was positive to hear. My golf lessons are def an investment I've been overall very satisfied with what I'm paying for and I would recommend it to anyone else new to golf or learning to improve their technique. The video feedback I get in a controlled environment is really helpful, especially because I'm a visual learner. There's many class package. Flexible hours that go into the evening so you can go after work and a app where you can see your class lessons and schedule you future classes or cancel them. There's also a parking lot. Monday, I had the first playing lesson with my coach, Todd Nagata. It was the perfect way to integrate studio training with the on-course "real world". Todd demonstrated as close to the perfect swing as I've ever encountered, and watching him was a lesson in itself. He did a superb job of settling my nerves resulting from self-imposed pressure to perform well in front of your coach. The benefits of such training cannot be overstated. Best of all, I actually hit a fair number of shots that pleased Coach Nagata and hopefully, showed him his work is not in vain! Thanks Coach! I received a gift certificate to Golftec and just had my first evaluation two weeks ago with Bill Hunt. I was not able to hit very far and he was able to point out the lack of "hitch" in my wrist and showed me how I can improve on the video. For me I thought the video was very effective. I just played in a tournament and I've hit some balls further than before. I was one of those guys who used a driver on a par 3. At the recent tournament, I tried a 6-iron on a par 3 and got very close to the green. The "hitch" fix worked. Looking forward to my next lesson with Bill! read more

I'm a little bit late saying so, but I had some lessons with Todd Nagata last fall and it really helped my ball-striking a lot. He's a great teacher. I went into this thing thinking the instructor would look at my sorry-ass swing, shake his head, cluck-cluck-cluck, and just suggest ways for me to work with what I got. But right from the get-go, Todd insisted on breaking it down, getting everything right, and then building it back up again the right way. And he wasn't accepting anything less even when I was willing to. One thing that makes a great golf teacher, I've always thought, is the ability to make you understand what the right takeaway, right contact, etc. *feels* like. (I.e., not just looks like.) I think Todd has that gift. I remember many times when he just kept telling me the same basic instruction in different ways until he found one that would make sense to me. Friendly, helpful and professional staff. Not pushy. Just received my first swing analysis and it was a great experience. I was only suppose to get 1 hour of analysis, but received 2 hours. Wow! That's what I call "Taking care of your customers. The place is nice, clean and very organized. All air conditioned so you're not sweating when you're working hard. They have a couple of rooms that convert into putting areas, like the entrance of the building. Cool place. Not much more to say about it, other than if you want to improve your game, you need to go here. They have all the technology to fix anyone's game. I will definitely be back. GolfTec will build your swing from the ground up, from setup all the way to the finish. They teach you to understand what you need to do to execute a good golf swing. Of course, individual milage will vary, according to how coordinated you are, or aren't, lol. I am NOT particularly well coordinated, but my instructor Bill H has helped me immensely. At least when I pull a shot or top a ball I can figure out what I'm doing. It used to be a mystery, and so frustrating, but now at least I can attempt to correct what I'm doing wrong. The video setup in the studio is great, and you can use it for your practice sessions too. I've had lessons on the driving range from 2 different pros, but they couldn't explain the swing from the ground up like GolfTec could. Expensive? I work with Todd Nagata and up to this point I have nothing but positives to say. My swing has become compact, connected, and powerfull under his instruction. He is patient, detail oriented, and pushes you to work and bring out your best. I would recommend him to anyone. Started golfing earlier this year and after getting my butt kicked by my buddy constantly I decided to take the first step towards lessons. Went to get my swing analysis done and I was amazed by what services are offered. Aside from a clean and professional atmosphere, Bill H (the coach I was paired with) took great care of me. In explaining how GolfTEC gets their numbers of what is "good" versus "needs attention" (not bad) everything was clear and concise. Along with clear explanations of the numbers, Bill was excellent at helping me to identify my improvements from some simple tips and videos that can be accessed via GolfTEC's website once one goes at least for a swing analysis. Although I've never taken a professional lesson for any skill sport I do believe that seeing yourself on video will help. Given this, I'm more than likely to sign up for lessons. 4/5 stars because I don't believe you can be perfectly happy based on one experience. I have been taking lessons from Todd Nagata for a couple years and it's the best decision I've done in my golfing career. The one mistake is that I should of done it earlier. He identified all my bad habits from moving my head , losing my spine angle, getting too steep and an open face st impact. He teaches and makes you understand the modern swing so you can self analyze yourself when your bad habits creep into your swing.
