I ended up purchasing a set of golf clubs anyway and have been pretty happy with them but I wanted to get a professional's opinion on my shafts, gapping, and lofts. So, I scheduled a club fitting at GolfTec by Ala Moana and was assigned to Justin. Justin was super helpful and didn't make me feel like an idiot. He spoke plainly and at a level I could understand... And he genuinely seemed to love what he did as an instructor and club fitter. He had me hit a couple of 7 irons and looked at what was already in my bag. He said he thought what I had was good for where I'm at but built me an updated version of my 7 iron with a different shaft just to check it out. He must've had it ready because he came back into the room in less than five minutes. He talked me through a couple of things and then showed me some video of myself swinging next to a prerecorded pro. He gave me two tips and said he wouldn't charge me for the visit. I was super grateful. After leaving, I took his tips straight to Ala Wai Driving Range and immediately hit the ball better. The next 30 minutes of working on it I had the ball going straight, long and nice trajectory. It was just amazing how he fixed my game in such a short time. As luck would have it, the person who reached out and was available at the time was the head PGA instructor Oliver. I was a little unprepared (no clubs, no gloves), but Oliver was very much go with the flow and was able to accomodate me. He asked me what I wanted to work on, and that's exactly what we did. I improved immensely, because Oliver was able to quickly diagnose the main problems with my swing and explain in an uncomplicated way (without too many "swing thoughts"). I'm excited to go home and practice/implement the changes to my swing.

We were promised a certain price from the Mizuno Rep (Russ Chong) and he told us Oliver (Island Pacific Golf Academy) would bill us and call us when the clubs came in. A week before the clubs came in, our credit card was charged $400 more than the original price. I tried to get a hold of the Mizuno rep with no response and Oliver keeps giving us the run around. To this day he hasn't given us a refund. This was a hard and expensive lesson to learn. Don't do business with Oliver Oliquiano. From other reviews I've read it seems like he has a habit of ripping people off. Shame on him! Especially in Hawaii where the golf community is so tight knit!

They have three simulators and seating areas. Reservations are a good idea but not always necessary. You are allowed to bring in your own food and may purchase beer and wine. Check out the purchase specials or packages as well. Upon entrance, pay your fee and they will clean your clubs. You may grab food at Foodland or a nearby venue and return while they are getting you set up. They have a practice putting green in the entry area with many putters for sale. The shop has quite a nice set up for not being a large retail shop, it is pretty small considering the space is used to golf and improve your game. (And have fun) The simulator areas are very spacious, allowing four people to enjoy time safely, by moving out of each other's way using the seating area and game area. Everyone working there is very helpful and friendly! They have TV monitors and in case something isn't working properly or technology glitches, they are available to troubleshoot & fix it right away. With all of the equipment to support you, they also sell it, like grips, at low costs and can regrip your clubs while you play or wait. You may also leave your clubs and pick them up later. Friends, date nights, students, family... a great spot to check out. Free parking. Casual - wear golf attire or jeans/shorts. It is AC inside so you may even want a light sweatshirt.

Egan's is all about contributing to your success. There are supplements, protein snacks and drinks, and a bit of gear for sale. Parking is right on the premises at $1/hour. And there is ALWAYS parking! Everyone who works the desk greets you every time you walk in, and my coach requires a once-weekly weigh in. If you aren't trending toward your goal, she (or he) reaches out to you to talk about your variables and how you can change your trajectory. Several times a year there are also challenges to mix things up a bit. These guys are as invested as you are! Coaches are always available to you. And a weigh in isn't just a weigh in - it's a really cool overall body analysis that shows you how much water is in your system (and consequently, how much more you could have), how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle. I know! Cool - AND it holds you accountable. The gym has an app that allows you to manage your payments and reserve a spot for classes. Membership is unlimited all access - you can go to any location at any time and take any class, multiple times a day. Yeah, people go multiple times a day! Classes are fun, but they are HIIT classes, so you do to until exhaustion. But like all fun and challenging things, you can't wait to do it again. Classes also seem to switch the instructors up as well as the workouts, so don't be concerned that you'll get bored because you won't! Even more awesome, during this COVID-19 time the gym has closed but instructors are offering any number of online classes via FB Live and Zoom so you can keep on keeping on! And they are just committed and motivating online as they were in person. I always thought I could just work out on my own and be fine. I liked doing that too. But classes appear to be something I really respond to. I like the accountability and the energy of having others participating with you. I honest to God thought I was going to pass out at my first workout. I quickly realized I was horribly dehydrated and underestimated the effects of a pre-workout protein bar and it never happened again. Egan's help you develop a real body awareness and focus, and helps you renew your commitment to your own success. I could feel more muscle mass and even though the class is only half an hour you get an intense work workout not only cardio but muscle building. Before I started, I was in the worst shape of my life, always getting sick and feeling fatigue most of the time . After being there for about a month, I can say I have a new outlook on life and truly appreciate what they have done for me.
