I had a great experience at Golf Galaxy in Reading, particularly working with Tim to get fitted for new clubs after a 20+ year hiatus from the game. I had a scheduled iron fitting ($50) and Tim greeted me as soon as I walked into the store for the appointment. I spent the next 60 minutes chatting with Tim, while trying different clubs and hitting balls into the Trackman screen. I'm a pretty poor golfer - plenty of hooks, slices, and misses - but to the extent I did hit clean shots, Trackman was able to show me which set/brand I did better with. Tim never made me feel embarrassed or critiqued my swing, but instead put me at ease and made me more knowledgeable about the evaluation process. There were no high pressure sales tactics or upselling - in fact I ended up not buying anything but instead had my existing clubs regripped. When it is time to buy new clubs, Tim left me with the Trackman results and recommendations about getting the irons extended, grip size, etc. I will certainly be back for future purchases and to take some lessons with Eyna, who was also very nice. Finally, my old clubs were regripped in just a few hours - way shorter than the 24/48 hour turnaround time they initially mentioned. Never return anything. Used car salesman tactics bought a putter two weeks ago had minor scrapes on the back side and wanted to give me $100 for a $300 putter ridiculous manager was rude and couldn't be bothered to make it right. I'm sure if I took their deal they would refurbish the club and sell it for new it was such a minor issue read more

Went into the Reading store around 2 on a Wed - store had no customers, both bays empty. Immediately met at the door by a GG person 'anything I can help you with?'. - Yes! - I have practically new irons (TaylorMade P790s) and driver/woods (3-months old, used 3 times) - I can't hit them at all, I wanted replace them with a more forgiving set of irons, and maybe more forgiving driver. ** So ALL I wanted to do was hit 3 or 4 balls with a 7 or 8 iron - from each of the three sets - then buy which ever set I liked the most - and trade in the P790s. Surprisingly, he quickly blurted out: "we don't do that...we're not allowed to let you come in and just hit a bunch of balls and try every club in the store.... changing out heads and shafts BUT we have a guy who can work with you - for $100 you can work with him try different clubs, hit some balls... " I explained (a) I just wanted stock off-the-shelf IRONS, so I don't need a fitting and (b) I've researched this and 3 or 4 brands always came up as the most forgiving: Ping G425s, Callaway Rogue and TaylorMade Sim2 and M4; I just wanted to hit 3 or 4 balls with a 7 or 8 (or whatever they had) from each set - then BUY the set I liked the most - TODAY...maybe 12-15 balls total - then BUY... again - they can't do that - stunning. As we're standing at the front of the store - being told I CAN'T try any clubs out - two high school kids walk right past us and start hitting golf balls. I was shocked - "Really? I can't just hit a few balls with a 7 from each set?" ... after the 3rd or 4th time: "no, we're not allowed to let people just hit balls..." I finally said 'OK, OK, OK - forget it. This is WAY too complicated. I'll go somewhere else - thanks, bye" ... I assume they're being told to not let anyone demo a club and push the $100 "fitting" whether they want/need it or not. As I'm walking out, I hear Wait! Wait! You can hit balls...You can hit some balls..." . Moral of the story: go to golf and ski warehouse THERE you CAN try different clubs before you drop $800+ on a set. ** Update - went to Golf and Ski Warehouse in Hudson the next day, asked to hit a few 'forgiving' clubs and he gave me a Rogue, Sim2, Stealth, M2 and Titlist 7-iron to try - and a bucket of balls... I traded in the P790s for M4's and LOVE THEM. I then did the same with driver, 3-wood and hybrid - 3-4 different drivers. They'll tape up the drivers/woods/hybrids and let you hit multiple shots NOT watching. Also has $100 in their points I didn't know about. Don't buy clubs without at least hitting a few balls first, it probably won't work out read more

We have had several great experiences at Golf Galaxy in Reading: 1. Last year I did a no-cost club fitting which gave me the chance to hit as many balls as I wanted with as many different club brands. The differences in feel were very noticeable. I could also choose different types of shafts to try. Never felt rushed, and was given great advice. Then bought the irons I liked best with the shafts I wanted and they had them in stock. 2. Three months ago my wife snapped the shaft of her 3-year old Mavrik Heavenwood while playing. Brought it in thinking we would need to either buy a new shaft and pay for the repair, or buy a new club. Instead, the guy called his Callaway rep and in less than a week a brand new upgraded Rogue Heavenwood was delivered - no charge! All we had to do was give back the old one in two pieces. 3. This week I brought my clubs in to be regripped. Dropped them off at 4pm. By noon the next day they were done! We've bought shoes, clothes, bags, wheels, and clubs there. Never a bad experience and everyone is very friendly and helpful. Great service, great product selection, greeted every time we go in. They have certainly earned our business many times over. read more

Went to get fitted about a week ago at the Reading, MA location, paid for a fitting and waited for almost 30 mins. The older gentleman club fitter was fitting another customer and was very invested in getting him into the right equipment from what I could tell. I was set up with a different "club fitter" who I am not sure actually knew what he was doing. I was looking to get fitted into a TM sim 2, he swapped out two different shafts and seemed he couldn't care less and went missing for most of the fitting. He then put on the stock shaft and said that seems good. It absolutely wasn't, I told him I didn't like the wait and feel and he said "well don't have anything in stock anyway. He then said feel free to hit some more and moved on to ringing out customer at the front. I then went to PGA superstore and had the most amazing experience with a professional club fitter who took time to understand my swing and make adjustments based on my swing and feedback. I would advise to never go here to get fitted or anything for that matter. Horrible experience for the second time in a row at this location read more

Made a purchase just over a month ago for a travel bag, the first time I used it the clip broke. Spoke to the manufacturer and they were super helpful but just needed a receipt. I called the store to see about having the receipt emailed or reprinted. The representative Patrick answered and said there was absolutely no way to get a receipt from a prior purchase, asked if I had gotten a receipt with my original purchase and said that's all I get. When I started to ask what happens when a customer loses a receipt he hung up on my while I was mid sentence. I called back to ask his name and speak to the manager, he answered and I asked for his name but I was hung up on again. I called back a third time and asked for the manager, the representative asked what it's in regards to and when I said it was about being hung up on twice he said the manager was unavailable due to being on another call, no offer to be put on hold or called back. Called into customer service and they said the store is able to do this and customer service provided me with the receipt. I had made all my golf purchases with the golfsmith that was in the location prior but since golf galaxy has bought them out and provided terrible customer service I will no longer be purchasing from this company. read more

I would give Phil(the manager) a zero in customer service if I could. My plate on my Odyssey putter head came off again for the second time. I was told that they could not glue or epoxy it back on and that they would need to send it back to the manufacturer. I then asked if they could loan me a putter, until my new one came in. Phil told me no and of course did not even say that he was sorry about it. I then called Golfer's Warehouse, where they were very friendly and told me that they could also send the putter back for replacement. However, they told me they would either give me a putter to use, if it was in stock or I could buy a new putter and return it for a full refund when my replacement came in. I then called Golf Galaxy back and told Phil what they said. He then told me that they would also allow me to buy a putter and return it for a full refund, when my replacement came in. I told him that he should have mentioned that to me, when I told him that I really needed a putter in order to play; he said that I only asked for a loaner. I told him that his customer service skills suck and that he should have mentioned it to me in order to keep me happy. He then told me that it was going to be zero degrees over the next week; I told him that I was playing tomorrow and it would be 50 in the afternoon and 46 on Sunday. I then called Corporate Headquarters and told them the story. I also told them that I was not surprised that they went bankrupt, as they know nothing about taking care of their customers. I have spent a lot of money there through the years. but will now go to Golfer's Warehouse in the future. read more
