    Tee box, or sand trap?
    Big Craig D.

I used to come here in the 90s and early 2000s, haven't been in years... Price has increased to $17 but honestly it should cost maybe $2.. the conditions in 2020 are absolutely abysmal. The entire course other than the greens are basically a sand trap. Rough Is over grown.. crab grass on the greens, the tee boxes are absolute trash.. I was so ashamed to bring someone here, and I feel bad the place I learned to play golf at has fallen to such disrepair.. even at $17 it's a tragic mess. Close it down or fix it up.. don't even waste your money here unless your practicing your game out of the sand..

Fine par 3 course. Quite hilly. There is another golf course nearby. Be careful to stay within stoneham oaks.

Terrible condition especially the tee boxes. Crowded and backed up 2 groups on every hole. Not worth the money.

Pretty good for a cheap par 3.. but they are pressing their luck raising the price. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Simulators are everywhere these days and they all have the same information. And, if the guy running the lesson doesn't explain the target numbers, or perhaps doesn't understand the information, these numbers are irrelevant. Their video quality is so slow and poor, it more often than not missed crucial parts of my swing. My phone would've been more useful. The bottom line is, these are not coaches. They are guys that like to play golf and wanted a way to make money when not golfing. They use a couple of gimmicks, and send you off with links to online videos. You pay 1 hour prices for 30 minutes, and there is no investment in your progress. When I started my lessons, I told them I wanted two things. I wanted a practice plan, so when on the range I'd be practicing with purpose. I also wanted to build the foundation of a good swing, and I didn't mind a setback in scoring. I wasn't looking for miracles. I got neither. My first coach was COMPLETELY disinterested in our lessons. I'm not saying he was always hungover, but he acted like he was. He'd sip coffee and wander out of the room for half the time. Once, I drove all the way there, on his schedule, for a lesson. He came in the room and asked if I'd rather just practice on my own. I asked for a different teacher. The next guy wasn't any better. It was summed up when, after working together for a couple months, he asked "is that your normal ball flight?". Shouldn't you know that after "coaching" me for 2 months? It's like these guys have never even been coached, never mind have the credentials to do the coaching. Biggest regret of my golf career.

Some the coaches and I didn't click or the lessons were too generic. I decided to check out golftec since I drove by it every day. I'm glad I did. After the eval I purchased a teaching plan. It isn't the cheapest around but I have seen definite results. The facility has approximately 4 days which have a combination of video recording equipment and golf simulators. It also has an indoor putting green and equipment to hit off uneven lies. The only downside is that currently only one bay has the golf simulation equipment. I think there's talk about expanding with more simulators. I tend to practice here a lot after work which is great. I work on my game and wait for traffic to settle down. I have recommended this place to a bunch of friends and they all enjoyed it. The coaches are all pretty nice and easy to work with. I personally work with Alex who is great. He's a very nice guy who quickly identified my swing faults and set up a plan to get me where I wanted to be. This place is worth a "drop by".

After completing my second visit to Big Sticks Golf in Burlington, MA, I decided to write a review…read morefor Yelp! My first visit was very positive and it prompted me to come back. I booked the golf simulator which allows for independent play as a solo or with a group of up to four where you can play practically any course isn't he world, practice at the range, or just analyze your swing. Because this is a golf simulator, you hit specially designed golf balls into a screen where various monitors and sensors pick up the trajectory, ball spin, velocity and forecast distance and accuracy. The results are very realistic and the distances from my own club selection are surprisingly accurate. While the tee to green is highly comparable to real life, the short game does take some adjustments. The staff at Big Sticks Golf was friendly and courteous in welcoming me, offering an empty bay to take some warmup swings and then logging me into the simulator. The rest was up to me. Again, the experience was lifelike enough to work on my swing after many winter months off. Where I was advised by their on-line booking site as well as talking to a member of the staff that an individual can play 18 holes of golf in under an hour at $55/hour. I played pebble beach and enjoyed it very much, despite losing too many strokes around the greens with finicky technology that requires some getting used to. For my second visit I booked 2 hours and played TPC Sawgrass twice since the PGA tour was there this week. Again the staff was courteous and assisted me in getting set up. While my tee to green game was still good, I experienced notice improvement in the short game vs. my previous visit. Using the "aim" on the monitor vs. trying to compensate with your actual stroke is key. I was very pleased with the experience and not only played the course twice shooting in the low 80s each round, but I also had 25 mins remaining to hit the range and work on various clubs and my swing. It was well worth the money and I am really looking forward to the warmer weather getting her to keep the momentum going on my regular outdoor game too. When it may be more convenient to play a quick round indoors, I will keep this establishment in mind all year round. Check out Big Sticks Golf and don't let the snow, cold, early season conditions or summer rains limit your golf game.

Surprisingly, he quickly blurted out: "we don't do that...we're not allowed to let you come in and just hit a bunch of balls and try every club in the store.... changing out heads and shafts BUT we have a guy who can work with you - for $100 you can work with him try different clubs, hit some balls... " I explained (a) I just wanted stock off-the-shelf IRONS, so I don't need a fitting and (b) I've researched this and 3 or 4 brands always came up as the most forgiving: Ping G425s, Callaway Rogue and TaylorMade Sim2 and M4; I just wanted to hit 3 or 4 balls with a 7 or 8 (or whatever they had) from each set - then BUY the set I liked the most - TODAY...maybe 12-15 balls total - then BUY... again - they can't do that - stunning. As we're standing at the front of the store - being told I CAN'T try any clubs out - two high school kids walk right past us and start hitting golf balls. I was shocked - "Really? I can't just hit a few balls with a 7 from each set?" ... after the 3rd or 4th time: "no, we're not allowed to let people just hit balls..." I finally said 'OK, OK, OK - forget it. This is WAY too complicated. I'll go somewhere else - thanks, bye" ... I assume they're being told to not let anyone demo a club and push the $100 "fitting" whether they want/need it or not. As I'm walking out, I hear Wait! Wait! You can hit balls...You can hit some balls..." . Moral of the story: go to golf and ski warehouse THERE you CAN try different clubs before you drop $800+ on a set. ** Update - went to Golf and Ski Warehouse in Hudson the next day, asked to hit a few 'forgiving' clubs and he gave me a Rogue, Sim2, Stealth, M2 and Titlist 7-iron to try - and a bucket of balls... I traded in the P790s for M4's and LOVE THEM. I then did the same with driver, 3-wood and hybrid - 3-4 different drivers. They'll tape up the drivers/woods/hybrids and let you hit multiple shots NOT watching. Also has $100 in their points I didn't know about. Don't buy clubs without at least hitting a few balls first, it probably won't work out

I spent three days here in June, and played the Senator and Legislator twice each and the Judge once. What a treat! The Senator is a links style layout that is very challenging. There are no trees, moderate elevation changes, lots of bumps, and plenty of sand bunkers. There are many blind shots where strategic placement of drives and layups are critical. The wind was blowing when we played, and I imagined it was close to playing an old course somewhere in Scotland. This Legislator is a beautiful course that is a traditional layout. The course meanders through woodlands and tree lined fairways. The back nine starts with a memorable ride past the clubhouse. The cart path winds down an elaborate wooden bridge. The back nine has some unique holes with a stretch that runs along a mountain ridge. #15 is a par four with a dramatic downhill tee shot to a wide fairway. I thought the Judge was hardest and most beautiful of the three courses. It runs along the Alabama River and water is in play on most of the holes. The view from #1 tee box is spectacular. It is extreme downhill drive to a narrow fairway. Two of the par threes are essentially shots to an island greens that require precise accuracy. This track measures about 5900 yards from the white tees, but it feels much bigger. The par fives are long and difficult(#7 measured 575 yard and #10 is 503).
