We were interested in buying an exercise bike. We had been to the Dick's in Medford, but they couldn't be bothered to help us. We called this one and they said that they had the model we were interested in on the floor. When we walked in, someone asked if they could help us and directed us to the right area. Second visit to this store to pick up a bike chain. Shelves still empty but that's not what prompted me to write this review. As I was walking through the aisles, a female employee asked the bike department guy to get on the phone with a customer who wanted to buy a bike still in the box. The customer wanted to put the bike together himself. She asked the guy to get on the phone and 'talk him out of it, because you're good at that'. I shrugged it off and made a mental note until another male employee said 'make up some tools' to further dissuade the potential customer. I dunno, I get eating to drive service calls but outright lying? Maybe he was joking. Didn't sound like it. Now I know this stuff happens, but right there - in front of customers? So I'm browsing through the store and see something that I could use and there's no price so I find the nearest store employee and he scans it to tell me the price and he says it's coming up at $.02 cents? I say sold and head to the register. The girl scans it and I see the look on her face, she then looks it up on a different device and it comes up the same. She then says I can't sell you this for that price? What?? Why??? After another employee comes over and comes to the same conclusion it's $.02. Still won't let me purchase it and now on the phone with someone and tells me the price is $100 ??? It's a net that hangs on a bball hoop to direct the ball one way and it's clearly been returned and box is open? She then says that to whoever she is speaking too but no response? This store is a mess. They spread merchandise out all over the store. I went to get a Carhart hat they advertised. There were little sections of hats spread out. The hats they advertised didn't look anything like the pictures from the advertisements. Found another section of hats and of course, there's no mirror to try them on. Looking for a specific rig or hook It could be in three different places and it might be incorrectly displayed, behind something different. This review can only be enjoyed whilst whistling or humming the theme song to the Sopranos... ...woke up this morning, got myself a gun... Ok, so maybe what I really did was get together with a bunch of yelpers, go to Dick's to buy some ammo (doesn't that sound pretty bad-ass in and of itself?) and went to private sporting club to fire off a few rounds. Thanks to Dick's and their power-trippy employees, this entire awesome day was prolonged way more than necessary due to an incident in the 'buying ammo" portion of our morning. What should have been a 5 minute process turned into a half-hour ordeal. Basically one of the employees was giving Christopher some crap about him buying ammo for us and how it was illegal and would he like Chris to get a manager. Of course Chris would. He has a license for this stuff. Sheesh. After the first manager couldn't make a decision, they called for a second. While waiting around for the second, another random employee came to ask us if we needed help. The following conversation took place: Employee: Can I help you with something? Chris: Yes, I am trying to buy some ammo. But there seems to be some sort of problem. Someone is getting a manager. Employee: Do you have a license? Chris: Of course I have a license! Employee: Then what's the problem!? EXACTLY! Within the next 2 minutes, we had our ammunition and were at the register paying. A frustrating if not comical experience. While this entire process dragged out, the girls and I busies ourselves with al of the neat stuff Dick's stocks: purple and pink sparkly bait, fishing poles of every size (insert obligatory "size matters" joke here...I know we did) and a multitude of paddles, oars and fishing boots. Chances are, if you need something sporting, sporting or sports related, Dick's has it. Hence they get 3 stars for having a lot of cool shit to play with. Minus two for a hassle!! read more

Unlike the previous Yelper's issue with lack of employees, I embrace it. Last time I came in here some teenagers were engaged in a game of roundball by the portable basketball hoops. Neither had Kobe's or Lebron's skills. I enjoy when I can't find an employee. That usually means I can have batting practice in the store or try some new fishing rods and have some fun. Terrible. Multiple times have I had issues here. I take the extra drive to Danvers now. Where do I start? Customer service...let's say I don't think it's part of their policy. Multiple times have I left due to waiting over 15min for someone. It shows that it comes down from management. The store manager seems bothered every time he's asked a question. I over heard him speaking with a customer regarding a wrongly priced kayak and stated if they fight for the price then the employee who marked it could lose their job. You don't do that. Another issues is the sale signs are never with products. Advice: Put sale signs with products. Be welcoming to costumers and hire individuals who are knowledgeable in your products. As far as being the ultimate big-box store of sports and sporting-related equipment goes, they've got you covered. As far as being a store with even the remotest interest in helping you, they have a very nice break room. I'm sure there are times when they are busy, and they must have more than two employees in their 12,000 square foot, 10-department sporting goods store, but I can tell you it's not on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. After wandering about for 10 minutes, I finally just started dragging a safe in a cardboard box toward the escalator. Halfway there, a guy emerged from some nether region and said "can I help you with that?" I told him sure, and asked that he go get a two-wheeler. I would have liked to examine the floor models, but a little google-fu with the smartphone did in 15 minutes what an employee could have done in 2, had one been present to help. Hey, in the end, I bought a safe at a reasonable price, but I might as well have bought it online for all the advantage I received of purchasing it in a store. Buyer Beware! Return Policy should be illegal, and probably is. I purchased two expensive toy guns for my son; the type that shoot little plastic bb's. Together they came to about $200. Within a week, one of the guns, which was resting against the wall, slid and fell on it's side. When he went to pick it up he noticed that the stock had completely broken off from the impact. I had the receipt and figured it was no big deal. The gun was junk, I was not going to waste money on that product again, so I brought it to the store to return and get my money back. I had the gun, the receipt and the packaging in hand when I arrived at the counter. The assistant manager started to process the return and I told her that I wanted cash. She told me that because the product could not be put back in the packaging, it was there policy that I had to take a store credit. I pointed out that... 1. In order to open the packaging you have to cut through the plastic casing and there is no way to open the product without damaging the packaging. 2. Even if it was possible to open the packaging without destroying it, he gun was broken and could not be re-shelved any way. To her, this was not a convincing argument. No amount of reasoning could break her resolve and in the end I agreed to take the store credit, never spend another penny in her store and write this review.. In less than a month, the other gun was also gone and I again returned it. I had the same conversation with a different employee, which came to the same conclusion. I was shocked at how short sighted there return policy is. I am a marathoner and a fisherman. The would have made a lot of money from me over the years but now they will never get another penny from me. read more

Been here a few times for all different things. I normally agree that they are more pricey for things that can be found in like a target or walmart, but in comparison to other sporting good stores, they are reasonably priced. Went there in the last hour before closing and they were pretty busy still. No one was available to help and the line was insane. Most staff have been pretty knowledgeable in previous visits,.in regards to where u can find things and what is recommended. Checked online to buy a safe at the Saugus store, online said there was 1 in stock. Got there and stated they had none and wouldn't sell the floor model. Unfortunate but staff was very helpful. Called the Natick store and spoke to an employee who said they had plenty of the model I wanted in stock and would hold one for me. Went the next day, hold tag was on top of the floor model of the one I wanted, paid for one, and when I went to the loading dock to pick up the manager told me they were all out. She said he must have thought I meant a different model, but the hold tag was on top of the right one. Frustrating, but she went out of her way to call the Dedham store and make 100% sure that they did in fact have the item I wanted and to hold one for me. Got to the Dedham store, paid, they loaded it into my car and I was on my way in just a few minutes. All told it was frustrating to have to go to multiple stores when not expecting to need to, but every employee I dealt with was helpful and polite so I will definitely continue to shop at DSG. read more

I was very impressed with the selection in this store. We are on vacation and my daughter needs volleyball shoes for the high school season and we did not get a chance to get them before we left home for vacation. My daughter had a pair picked out which were on sale and I had a loyalty coupon which expired yesterday so we checked Yelp.com and found this location. The store was huge and we quickly found the shoes. When we went to the register the sale price did not ring up. We found out the sale had ended they never changed the sign. They honored the sale price and with the coupon we paid $34 for an $84 pair. read more

Also, this location is huge so most likely you will find what you are looking for. Other Dick's locations have a much bigger selection than this location. I went in to exchange a pair of swimming goggles and was surprised to see such a small selection. I never put Dick's on par with REI or specialty triathlon stores, but you can usually find an unexpected good deal on performance gear. Not here. Smallest selection of women's running and general clothing ever....but a bizarrely huge golf section. So come here if golf is your thing, and you're female, otherwise, it's not worth the trip. read more

We've been to this location of Dick's twice, and I don't think we will be going back. On the first trip, we were there to buy sneakers for my grand daughter. The customer service guy Steve was really helpful with finding something that a 10 year old likes but isn't going to break your wallet. The problem was I saw the same Nike sneaker $10 cheaper the following week at another retailer! The second trip was even worse, and we didn't buy anything. Again for my grand-daughter, and we were looking for basketball sneakers this time. I think the customer service rep's name was Jen, and she tried to sell us models that were around $100. Went in to buy a bicycle. I knew the exact model and that they had one in stock before arriving. When I arrived I went straight to the bicycle department and proceeded to wait for help. Five minutes later, no help. I left my wife in the bicycle department and went upstairs to the men's room. Surely, in all that time, someone would help her in the bicycle department. I come back 10 minutes later to find nobody had come over to help. Somewhat annoyed, we found the "help button" and pressed it. Five minutes later a kid from another department came over to help us. He knew nothing about bikes! When I asked him about a specific model he proceeded to google it on his smartphone! After much searching he found the bike. Great. But the rear break cable was loose. Finally someone came over who knew a little more about bikes. He fixed the cable. After examining the bike I discovered the wheels needed to be trued. He said there was nobody at the store who could do that. In the end, I went to REI. I paid more but got top notch customer service from knowledgeable people. read more

I called Dick's Sporting Goods in Saugus and my call was transferred to someone who sounded very knowledgeable who told me "we have them". The clerk who served him was a very kind and helpful person named Andrew. So, rather than go home without new sneakers he brought a pair of Brooks running shoes. Worst. Bought 2 kids bikes here. They're still learning so I wanted them to be reasonably priced; I figured buying at a sporting goods store would be slightly better than a Target or something. Wrong. The store is supposed to assemble for free, and since one of the bikes was the floor model, I only needed one small one done and a quick alignment on the display. Got passed around at purchase time from sales clerks to manager, each one not seeming to know much about bikes or have a consistent story about when they might be ready to pick up. Fast forward to pick up 2 days later (to be safe) and they give me the wrong bike. It gets worse, and some of the commentary was insane, but bottom line -- just don't go here if you're looking for any kind of customer service whatsoever. The kicker was the hold tag they put on my daughter's bike: instead of asking me for a name and writing it, someone wrote "white lade, brown hair." Specific to the firearms department...I went in there a few days ago to by a 22 cal. Rifle. I was delayed by the system, which happens. I received a call last night telling me my delay was lifted and I could purchase the rifle. I couldn't make it there last night do I went this morning. When I got there no one was in the firearms dept. it took 2 people about 15 minutes to locate the guy working in that department. When he came, he told me he couldn't sell me the firearms because neither of the managers that had to be present were in the store. He said I had to come back after 1:00 pm to purchase the rifle. After I voiced my concern he kept telling me the Mass laws, I've been shooting for awhile and I know the Mass Laws on purchasing firearms. The fact is, if you are selling something at a store someone who is qualified to sell any specific item should be present. A customer shouldn't have to make more than 1 trip to the store. I'm very disappointed in the customer service and I will never shop at this store again. read more
