As a student at UCSB, and even the year after I graduated and was working in the area, this has been my go-to shop. The shop itself is cool and really gives of that old-school vibe in the middle of Old Town Goleta. They say you know your barber, and Pete never fails to deliver. Pete, who's also the shop owner, has always been MY barber while in the area. Shoutout to Louie as well because I've also been very satisfied with his cuts. Appointments have always been a breeze and are a lot more convenient if you're trying to skip the line. They use an app now too. They saved my best friend's life by running outside to lift a car off of her when she was run over by a car near this shop. I love Ray Oldenberg's concept of The Third Place. Goleta Barbers is a perfect example of such a place. I have had two cuts at this establishment and ready to offer a review. I am not loyal to any one shop in town, I really like them all and I'm a poor planner when it comes to routines like haircuts and personal appointments, I am the guy who ducks into any door with a barber pole next to it. When I first walked into Goleta Barbers, I paused. As I observed the shop and customers, my reading is that this is a safe, "third place" for men-of-color. A haven free from racist BS. I am an old white guy and I immediately felt like I might be considered as an outsider--maybe even unwelcome. [side note: If you don't believe that racist BS exists in our beautiful area, I have a few books for you to read and we'll discuss. We all have work to do.] Now, after being offered a seat and getting a great haircut, I can say that I am either very welcome at Goleta Barbers, or the professionals are great at pretending to like me. Both Pete and Al are great at their work and just an absolute pleasure to talk with. Two places that make me feel like I am living in the present and also the distant past: A chair at Goleta Barbers and in front of the beautifully carved wood bar at Pepe's. I showed up at the opening time it says both on google and on the storefront and waited outside for 20 minutes since my car was getting new tires across the way anyways. Finally when a worker came in, they seemed annoyed I was there because they only came in for the appointment (even though the shop was supposed to be open 20 minutes ago) and irritatingly said they could "squeeze me in" since the person for the appointment was late. When I explained how the sign says they're supposed to be open 20 minutes ago, they got snarky with me and proceeded to quickly cut my hair (like a Supercuts haircut would be, not what you'd expect out of a barbershop) in anticipation for their appointment and kept saying snarky remarks about how it's my fault I showed up when I did (during store hours? Before their appointment?) So basically a terrible experience, a bad haircut, wasted money (since you're paying a premium to be at a barbershop rather than a commercial hair cutting place), and a ruined day is what you can expect! Try the other barbershops around town, this place isn't it. read more

I give it a 3 because the cut was not bad but the service was not great. 1. I booked an appointment, waited for a good half hour when a chair was available, and the barber that cut my hair wasn't even the one who had my appointment and then they still charged me extra for the appointment when there was no one in line. 2. The Barber in front of me while I waited did not keep a clean chair and just left the past customers hair on the ground and then just took his break with leaving the hair to sit there as the first chair when you enter. read more

The door is surprisingly heavy and the windows are mirror reflective!! I tried opening it thought it was closed and about to walk away when the door slammed open!! They welcomed me inside and were able to start working on my cut immediately. It was a hot day and there was a funny smell to the store, but I'll chock it up to the smell of "men". My barber was very skilled and actually got pretty close to how my usual barber cuts my hair. Unfortunately he's back in LA and I'm here in Santa Barbara. I will definitely be back and I'm actually due for another hair cut fairly soon. It wasn't too expensive and I definitely felt like I was taken care of here. read more

Good people & by far the best barbers in the goleta/santa barbara area I've been going to goleta barbers for a year or 2 after trying out Goodland & some of the other spots around town. Unlike goodland where I wait an average of 90 mins-2hrs, I usually wait 20 mins or so and sometimes can walk right in and get cut. UCSB students should check this place out because Goodland takes too damn long/isn't that great. I've gotten cut by Sergio, Alex, Hera and Pete (the owner) and would recommend all of them. The atmosphere is like a barbershop back home where you can chop it up and clown a bit. Seriously, give Goleta barbers a shot. read more

These guys ROCK! I get a shave and beard trimmed up. "Cisco" takes his time and does it right. No nicks, no burns and is very particular how he trims up my beard. Thanks Cisco!!! Your ROCK! So I came in the first time and the cut was cool and all but i asked how much for the shave and the cut. They charged me 45 to cut some whiskers off my face and an alright haircut. Now today, I walked in and my guy Mauricio cut me up. I asked for a taper but got a really shitty fade, I don't know if Stevie wonder or Hellen Keller taught this guy how to cut but it was not it. First and foremost, WAITING 3 HOURS for a haircut is just not worth it. Second of all, Al was the only considerate barber. The other two chit chat way too much and took their sweet ass time while customers have waited for a very long time. I was literally up next for a cut, one of the workers decided to start packing for his thanksgiving holiday. I mean really? There's about 5-7 customers waiting and you decide to pack and leave??? Overall, bad experience... no one should wait 3 hours for a cut. Will never be coming back here again, unless they hire more competent staff. read more

Yea Pete Jimenez is my family, and I never say hell yea because he is my tio I say it because knowing how much effort he put it to one hair cut. And people might be saying he did the best because he is ur family, no when I was wait in line I seen all his costumers coming in with needing a hair cut, to seeing them come out with a smile and knowing I just went to the best barber in town for 20-30 bucks. And I go switch up my barber because my mom is always in a rush and I had to walk to the nearest barber( I am 12 ) and they have me pay 40$ for a 2,1 shaped hair line and point on the sides, for 40$. been here several times. Gotten great cuts. DO NOT LET Z CUT YOUR HAIR I asked for a simple haircut and left with a half inch bald strip down the center of my head. His solution? Let him cut designs in the side of my head. The man is utterly incompetent and looked on drugs or hungover during the session. If I wasn't so embarrassed of my haircut I'd post pictures- investing in some hats until I don't look like a skinhead skunk. The owner is great, didn't make me pay and offered me another cut for free. But as long as Z works there, I won't come back and will tell my friends not to either. 5 of my friends decided to never go there again after seeing my cut, all long term customers. I made an account for how poor of a cut I received. Do not go here. VERY disappointed. I showed Cisco a low skin fade and he just took a one straight to my hairline. There is no distinct fade whatsoever and there were hairs that were randomly sticking out. Overall it was a terrible job. On top of a bad haircut, he is immature. He ate while giving me a cut and pauses to talk smack. Bad service, poor cut. Will never go here again! Bunch of lames. read more
