DO NOT GO HERE. I just moved to town and needed a barber so I thought I'd check this place out. Their barber Ivan messed my stuff up. Worst barber I've ever had. This place is really top-notch. I came in without an appointment (but you should make one! I got lucky), and in 15 minutes I was in the chair. I came in with really long, thick curly hair hoping to get it cut down and styled. I was not disappointed. After a few days of letting it grow in, it's official: this is a terrible haircut. The first cut I got here was solid, the second had some weird things about it, so I went back and had it fixed. This is unfixable. My hair needs to grow. I'll be wearing a lot of hats. Why is there a big lock of hair in the back left of my head, while everything else around it is short? Why is the side of my head toward which my hair swoops cut way shorter and up higher than the other side? This is maybe the single weirdest thing about this cut. Just makes no sense. And why was more than half the length cut off when I asked for it to be kept long? I'd have said something to stop this madness, but I only saw the cut for about 30 seconds at the end since they flip you way from the mirror when they work. I wish I could say I've found a barber in SB, but the search continues. Clearly a lot of good reviews here, but no denying the top of my head right now. You've been warned. read more

Ahh the Chop Shop...the best in the West. I moved to SB a little over a year ago, and my first concern was finding a barber. I tried a few around town before finding this place, and there's some pretty good Barber's in SB, but none have been able to stand up to Frankie and the Chop Shop. Price is extremely fair and the cut is always on point. Overall, one word comes to mind when I think of this place.. QUALITY. I've been to Chopshop three times now and I've had the pleasure of having my haircut by Frankie. Came in today to visit a friend and had some downtime so I decided to finally get my shaggy hair taken care of. Based on previous reviews I decided to try this place out. Luckily they had a spot for me because it sounds like they're usually booked solid and I understand why, now. First thing I noticed walking in was the atmosphere and this place is extremely relaxed. It's run by two brothers, Frankie and Ivan. Ivan cut my hair today and he took his time to make sure it was absolutely perfect while keeping up conversation. They have two flat screen TVs in there that they play sports on and keep the radio loud enough to hear but not interrupt conversation. You won't regret going to these guys and at $22 the haircut is extremely worth it. CASH ONLY by the way. Luckily I had some in my car. I met Frankie at another shop shortly after moving to SB eight years ago. He never cut my hair, but he was always one of the cool guys at that location. Fast forward to yesterday, I decided to give Chopshop a try since it's in my neighborhood, and I drive past it at least twice a day on my way to & from work. I'd also had lunch at the Thai restaurant next door the day before. Frankie hadn't seen me in at least 6 years, but he remembered I'd just move to SB the last time we spoke. I was impressed with the shop, especially the outdoor patio seating area. Everything was clean and modern. My wait wasn't long, and my haircut was on point. Ivan and Frank are two genuine guys running one of the best barbershops I have ever been to. I'm new to Santa Barbara and have been to a couple spots since I moved down here. While the first two spots weren't bad, I had seen The Chopshop here on Yelp and it looked like a pretty cool setup. I'm glad I gave it a shot because I finally found "my" place from here on out. Not only were the fellas (Ivan and Frank) a couple of cool dudes who were very welcoming and professional, but the product was excellent as well. This place had the perfect vibe and I actually enjoyed getting my haircut which I rarely do. These guys and the Chopshop get an A+ in all categories! Oh and the price point is perfect too! I paid 30 dollars for the worst hair-cut of my life. The people were nice and social, but they don't know how to cut hair. Well at least the barber I got didn't. He cut the top of the back of my head shorter than the rest of the top. I look like a fool. Don't want to be seen in public. I'm going to have to wear a hat for weeks because of this. I told my cousin about it and she said they did the same thing to her boyfriend. They both told me not to go. But after reading good reviews I decided to give it a shot. This was the worst financial mistake I've made all summer. I expect a good hair cut if I'm going to pay $30. I wanted my money's worth, but instead I got a really bad hair cut that lowered my self-esteem. The fade he gave me isn't even a fade. It's all choppy and patchy. I was at the gym a couple days ago and noticed the perfect fade on one of the guys haircuts. I asked him where he got his haircut from any told me from Elijah at the chop shop. I was able to get my haircut today and must say Elijah did an amazing job! I told him how I usually get it cut and asked him to fade it. He not only got it spot on but had impeccable detail at every angle! First time to chop shop last week on a referral from a friend. Ivan & Frank give proper mens haircuts. They take their time. I really appreciated the razor + shave cream around the neck line - nice touch. They have a great little shop! Hip hop on the speakers, ESPN on the flat screens, & MJ's lining the ceiling in glass cases. Pretty much all you could want/expect from a little barber shop. No lie, it's the best barbershop in SB. I found this spot through yelp and this ship is hands down the best. They're good with lineups, fades, and other cuts you prefer.
