Can't begin to write a good enough review to sum up how happy i am every time i leave Richie's. Mariay is easily one of the best barbers I've had, not to mention the rest of the staff is beyond friendly and always says hello or offers water if the barber you're there to see is busy. Back to Mariay though, she listens to everything i say and makes me feel comfortable talking about what I'm looking for especially when i never know the right terminology etc etc. 10/10 would recommend this shop, would recommend Mariay definitely if she has open spots but literally everyone in there is talented as heck. I wish I could give this place ZERO stars. I have to live with this short haircut until my hair grows back. I did not ask for this and this is not fair. D-LO didn't even seem to care that he messed up my haircut. But was just concerned whether I paid or not , which is a huge RED FLAG in a barber. If you need a cut....then look no further than Richie's Barbershop in IV! I have lived in Santa Barbara for 8 years now and I have tried to find a good barber the entire time! Luckily, one of my close friends put me on Richie's and I haven't looked back since. Richie's Barbershop truly goes above and beyond to give amazing cuts and their customer service is top tier. Everyone in the shop is friendly and makes sure whenever you walk in that you feel at home. My Barber Mariay is simply the best to do it! I never have to worry about my hair when I am getting a cut from her and she is always checking in throughout my time there. She gives fantastic cuts, always listens to clients and even ends with a massage gun after the cut...you really can't beat that! I always get a close fade with a trim on the top, a clean line up by a razor blade and she has me on my way feeling like a new person. Mariay is by far my favorite barber I have had and I cannot recommend her highly enough! If you are looking for your next barber, Mariay will get you looking right. I am so happy I found Richie's Barbershop and have a solid place in Santa Barbara to get a clean cut. Although Mariay is my barber, the rest of the staff is top tier too! Everyone in the shop is amazing and will make you feel incredible after your cut! The staff at Richie's make the shop the best and no matter who you get cut by, you won't be let down. The whole team is always checking in on the customers, keeping the shop clean and happy to just chat you up. Normally great. I get my son's haircut here and Oscar is terrific. I booked a haircut for 11:30 with Kevin G. I was 10 minutes late because the parking machine wasn't working. He doesn't greet me but says oh did you call. Still chilling with his phone he says what kind of a cut are you looking for? A fade. What kind of fade? Skin or what? I say a skin fade my hair is very simple just cut it short. He replies I don't think I can do your kind of a haircut and besides that you're late so sorry I can't help you. I tell him look I just drove up here from Carpinteria I'm sorry I'm late 10 minutes is there somebody else that can cut my hair? I don't really know why don't you scan the QR code on the front and see. I say I'm a human being, I'm in your shop there's other human beings here do you think I could talk to somebody? Of course they're looking at me like I'm crazy now and he finally says look I can take you at 12:00. I'm to irritated at this point and I can't imagine the experience getting any better at this point so I leave. Half a day wasted plus gas. What a poor excuse for a person Kevin G. Is. Updating my review for Mina my stylist And for the barber shop overall... I've definitely been seeing lots of local love going into the barbershop and IV and it makes me happy...we need to keep good stylists and barber skilled peeps in sb and it's so rad to have them in IV proper on our mini main drag so we can stop in and loom fresh so fast it's not even fair to others without our advantage of barbers by the beach!!! We need to support our stylists and keep ourselves looking fresh as it really does keep spirits up during stormy times it soothes my soul to have a fresh cut Like no other!!! I can attest as someone who has loved dying my own hair and having family cuts too, it's wonderful to have someone prof and right in the local hood to literally stroll over a few blocks from my pad and get a solid deal on ditching those dead ends! I love the decor and barbershop always appears to keep a clean and tidy appearance and follow Covid restrictions etc.... I'm fully pleased with their ability to accommodate both me and my service dog and they were very sweet about it as he's a total character and goes everywhere with me and as always happy to chill out so my regular stylist know him well and I hope to be a regular here now too. ;) Thanks again Mina and two managers and shop owner as well... Came in for a midfade combover, and I had high hopes considering that $25 is pretty pricey for a cut and we don't get a lot of good barbershops in IV, but I'm sad to say that I am very disappointed with my haircut. The sides of my hair were not proportional to each side and was not rounded off properly, "because of the shape of my head." I asked for a fade and I got the opposite - the hair on the lower part of my head had more length than the upper part. I asked for a short trim on the top, and they cut it way shorter than I had anticipated. When they were "done" with my haircut, I was shocked to see how uneven my haircut was. Even with further corrections, I was still very dissatisfied with my cut. Ashamed to say that I will be wearing a hat for the next few weeks. On the bright side, the service was great. They were trying their best to be really understanding about the haircut that I wanted, although they were very far from my expectations. To compensate for this, they did not charge me, and even offered me a free comb and some leftovers of their pomade. read more

This is my boyfriend's review: I wish I could do 0 stars but yelp won't let me. Do not ever go to Richies barber shop and ask for the barber Joe. I'm so convinced that he isn't a real Barber or even went to school for it... he can't do a fade or a taper. He tells you all of this info about hair cuts making it seem like he knows a lot, but my hair cut came out to be TRASH! I asked for a low taper fade and he didn't even fade my hair the correct way. He didn't fade the taper but all he did was shave off my side burns and left the bulk on the side of my head. Then roasted my other barber saying that he cut my hair like a "black person". I asked him to do specific things to my hair and he went off to do want looks good to him. I asked for a half inch off the top and it look like he cut a Inch off. read more

I'm so happy that there's finally a REAL Barber shop in Isla Vista! I brought my boyfriend in to get his haircut, and he left with the best haircut that he has ever gotten. The shop is clean, the staff was fun and friendly. There is a pool table in the back for anyone who wants to come in and play a couple games and 3 Big TVs to enjoy some sports while your getting your hair cut. Not to mention that they also have Figueroa Mountain Beer on Tap!! All the stylists are independent contractors who essentially buy their workstation on a monthly basis and charge the same prices across clients, depending on what work is being done. Each stylist has their own set of tools, availability, and conversationality. All 3 times I've been here, I've had my hair cut by different people--all of whom were awesomely accommodating and perfectly conversational. A cut is $25, which is insanely expensive, but I thought it was worth a try because I am somewhat particular about my hair. Chaye was my barber and he did a pretty good job cutting my hair. Some of my hairs ended up being kind of uneven in certain areas, but I didn't notice it until I got home and showered. Wow!! I can not say enough good things about this shop. My boyfriend and I were walking by when we were greeted by a friendly man who happened to be Richie the barber the owner of the shop. He said come in and check it out , so we did. The shop is so sweet, classic old school vibe... from the juke Box, to the pool table and the friendly staff I knew this was the perfect place for my man. I feel pretty bad posting a bad review. I've gotten 3 haircuts from Richies before, and all of them were pretty high quality. I just don't think they handle walk-ins or waiting lists very well at all, which is kinda odd. I called in this morning and then they said there was no wait, so I walked over. Then there was two other people waiting, and 3 people cutting other people's hair. Not really a big deal. They told me to sign in on a chalk board. If you're a walk in you generally will wait like 30 or so minutes anyway. But I waited about an hour and forty and never got my hair cut. A guy who was in there before me, who's name was also on the board before me, never got called. They said they weren't doing appointments, but then they were basically calling people who were waiting at random? I don't know. I like this barbershop but they need to really be more transparent with the people waiting or actually follow the list... To their credit, I should have asked or asserted myself as well. In general if you're shy or impatient you really shouldn't go here. In general they have good customer service and nice barbers too, but this was a pretty bad experience. read more

Doesn't really dismiss the fact that I felt disconnected in terms of communication for what I had wanted. There was no follow up, and I didn't see how he was cutting it to say anything. I came to this shop because I heard they do a great job and have a great atmosphere. I walked in and immediately noticed a pool table in the back. I racked the balls and a waiting customer joined me in a game of pool. While playing, a barber came up and offered us a drink. I thought she meant a water or some soda and was gladly mistaken. She poured my favorite beer, a Hoppy Poppy - Fig mountain. I couldn't have been happier as I waited for my cut. When it came time for my cut I was offer yet another Hoppy Poppy and knew this had to be the best Barber Shop. The cut went great and I really liked what I ended up with. Talking with the barber, I learned K&B had Pliny the Elder - Russian River and bought the last couple bottles after my cut. read more

Highly recommend going here, I used to have to settle for Campus Cuts' semi-decent haircuts before and have really liked going to Richie's ever since they opened. For 25$ their service is damn good, they offer complimentary water and beer, have good music and games on, and are really easy going in general.
