First, I want to say that I think Gul O's review is very superficial. I will explain the things he got right, and the things he got wrong. I've been seeing Doctor Goldstein for over two and a half years. He has treated me for a condition that no one else can. He literally saved my life. Literally. I would be dead now if it wasn't for this man. I've payed thousands of dollars for tests, doctors, specialists, and EVERYTHING that doctors suggested, been humiliated in ERs, and gone through painful and embarrassing procedures for this disorder before I saw him. No one could help me. No doctor even took the initiative to make me feel like they even cared about trying. I was at my wits end and extremely unhappy with the entire medical field, and highly skeptical, when I first saw Doctor Goldstein. When he did his "weird hand motiions" that Gul O states, I also thought "wtf is this idiot doing?" well it turns out that I don't know everything, and that some people know things that I don't understand. I don't understand how his applied kineseology (a widely recognized alternative medical way of diagnosing) works, but it does. He said I had certain antibodies in my blood, when we tested they where there. He said I had a problem with my liver, we tested, there it was. He's the only one that has been able to tell that anything is wrong with me. He's the only one that has been able to help, that has helped me at all.
When I went to Dr. Goldstein's office for the first time, I was put off. There was no secretary, he did all the work himself. At first, I felt this was unprofessional, but I quickly learned that that was just how he worked best. He works out of LI and in Midtown, he's very busy, and keeps all his work on his tablet and on his person at all times, from what I can tell. Dr. Goldstein has always made me feel comfortable, welcome, and safe in his office. He has worked with me through many difficult times. He's been flexible and never complained or made me feel negatively if I had to cancel an appointment due to illness. Many doctors have charged me a fee, or told me I couldn't schedule an appointment anymore, I would have to wait and call every day until they had a free spot. In other words, other doctors had not accomodated my illness, despite that I'm going there because of that illness. With doctor Goldstein, I have canceled on him multiple times in a week, on more than one occasion, due to the illness he treats me for, and he never made me feel as if I had done anything wrong. I mean, I felt terrible, canceling is rude and says "I don't value your time" however he knows that I am sometimes physically incapable of coming in, I live too far away. I could see any other nutritionist or chiropractor, but any other one is not Dr. Goldstein. In fact, he has gone to great length to help me despite distance and other factors. He has made me feel that my health is important to him.
Dr. Goldstein also goes the extra mile with his patients. He offers advice freely that can help anyone, and has many brochures and books around his office about the kind of medicine he does, and why it works. He has been published, and is widely recognized in the field. I know of therapist who specializes in eating disorders and other malnutrition, and this person knew and was impressed by Dr. Goldstein. When he hasn't heard from me in a while, he will send me a quick email asking how I am doing, and when I can come in. Dr. Goldstein has always kept records of my tests and results, and even sent them to other doctors for me, when other doctor offices failed. He has never missed or been late for an appointment with me. He has never violated my privacy, or made me feel like I was in any danger of that.
I feel the most amazing part of Dr. Goldstein's work is the very fact that he does do it alone. He manages to keep notes, does the insurance filing, he also handles shipping and stocking of vitamins he prescribes for his nutrition patients. He does everything, and some how it never seems to fall apart. I'm amazed that he is capable of that. If you call his number, you will reach him directly, not some strange messaging service.
Doctor Goldstein exemplifies every aspect of professionalism that I know of. He demonstrates initiative, he's incredibly flexible, unwaveringly reliable, always courteous, always positive, and he makes sure that his office, and all correspondences with him, feel safe and are confidential. I would be very happy if more MD's behaved with such a personal touch. With Doctor Goldstein, you really feel like he cares. Probably because I think that he really does care about every one of his patients.
I think most of Gul O.'s post is really blown out of proportion, superficial, and ultimately his fault. lack of communication on the patients end isn't his fault. Much of his post sounds nothing like Dr. Goldstein. I call drama queen. sad, it's your loss, he's amazing. read more
