Diagnosing the issue took some time since the problems weren't straightforward, but rather than rushing or guessing, he worked through it methodically until he had a clear picture of what needed fixing. Once he had that, he fixed both windows correctly and made sure they opened and closed smoothly before moving on. I also pointed out three other windows with issues, and Rob fixed all of them while he was there, which made the visit even more worthwhile. He walked us through some helpful information about insulation around the window frames and pointed out a couple of other minor issues worth keeping an eye on down the road. Other vendors told us there was no way to keep the 130 year window moldings, but Turab not only helped us keep them, but had so many neat tricks to improve our restoration project. Other vendors just gave us offers against our project scope, but Turab explained to us the dynamics of different windows in different parts of the house and what types worked best and saved us money. He made custom moldings for our cellar windows. He also helped us out to stop a fly tipping incident one day when we were out and not able to deal with it ourselves. And when it was pouring with rain and our basement flooded, he went outside and took a really long and hard look and told us what the problem was. After telling me the door absolutely could not be repaired, he said I have two options - either he leaves, or I can order a $3500 garage door. After several times of proposing different ideas and him telling me no that is not possible, I proceed to order a new door. He then dismantled the existing system. He said that was the Only way he could get my garage door to come down. He cut and removed the cables and pulley system, removed the springs and other hardware, and took all of those parts with him when he left. Thankfully, before spending $3,500 on a new door, I decided to get a second opinion. The following day, another garage door company came to my home. Within about two minutes of looking at the door, the technician told me that the door was absolutely repairable and immediately asked me, "Where are all your parts?" I explained that the Precision technician had cut and removed the cables and pulley system, removed the springs and other hardware, and took everything with him. Because those parts were gone, I had to spend over $1,000 to replace the components Precision had removed in order for the second company to repair my door. Once those parts were replaced, my existing garage door was successfully functioning. I did not need a new $3,500 garage door, I had other options - Nothing else was needed to fix it. I then contacted Precision Garage Door to explain what had happened and give them an opportunity to address the situation. I was told that it was unfortunate that their technician did not provide me with alternative options for repairing my garage door, but that there was nothing they could do for me. I also asked about getting back the parts their technician had removed and taken from my home. I was told they could not return them because the technician had more than likely already thrown them in the garbage. This is what I find most upsetting. I was told my garage door was not repairable and that my only option was a $3,500 replacement. The technician then cut and removed components from my existing garage door system and took them with him. The very next day, another professional determined that the door was repairable, but I had to spend approximately $1,000 replacing the parts that had been taken before he could repair it. I gave Precision Garage Door the opportunity to address the situation after the fact, and their response was essentially that it was unfortunate but there was nothing they could do. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to a complete garage door replacement and before allowing any existing parts or hardware to be removed from your property. This company is unprofessional and takes advantage of the consumer.
