I was at Bramalea City Centre on Wednesday after work. I had eaten an early dinner at the north food court. I was staring at this CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice place as I was eating. Getting some bubble tea afterwards would be great. I walked over. I saw two women leave the counter without any drinks. They seemed disappointed. I walked up to the counter and got a friendly woman. I ordered my usual, which was a large strawberry black tea. I get it with no sugar and less ice, and add coconut jelly. The woman asked if I'd be okay with a strawberry-cranberry version instead. It wasn't what what I had in mind. This store had a shortage of strawberries. I was game to change things up slightly. What I'm not a fan of is folks telling me that my drink will be sour without sugar. I realize that they mean well. However, I have been cutting out sugar in my drinks for over a decade. I'm okay with it. I also had to explain that the coconut jelly has sugar, so it's not like this drink will be super sour. Same goes with the strawberries in it. She admitted that I was right. No kidding! It's my go-to drink at CoCo, minus the cranberries. It's not my first bubble tea rodeo. I tapped to pay for my drink. I got a text for my receipt. I then waited patiently for my drink, which didn't take long to make. I didn't see the $3.99 drink special until after I had ordered my drink. Next time! My drink was ready. I thanked the woman. She seemed more interested talking to her two other colleagues in Mandarin after I got my drink. My drink was yummy. The strawberries were naturally sweet. Sure, prices at Longo's tend to be higher than at No Frills. However, the produce is super fresh at this store. It took my breath away. It was almost as if a produce photo shoot was about to happen, but it's really how it looks daily. The craziest discovery was looking at the huge brussel sprouts at this store. It's like someone fed them steroids. I held one on my hand and it felt like I was about to change a light bulb. It was insanely huge! I was admiring the Daiya line of dairy-free cheezecakes. I also loved seeing my beloved Portuguese egg tarts at the bakery. Some specialty items included parm crisps. They wouldn't sell it to me because the cashier said I looked too young. He asked me for ID, I didn't have any. I don't drive and I the only form of photo ID that I have is my passport and I don't carry that around. I reason that I don't is because I'm a 39 year old married, family man and I can't remember the last time I was carded. The cashier said: "I dunno, you look young" The ironic thing was that this guy looked young, I was probably old enough to be his father! I responded: "I don't need photo ID, I'm 39 years old!" Then he asked his associate: a tall-ish, slim balding gentleman, (I see him a lot there, maybe the manager) if I looked old enough. This guy's positioned about ten feet away from me, walking away, carrying a box, not even facing me to get a good look and says: "Yup, looks too young" and kept walking, never once looking in my direction. For all of the 8 solid years that I have been going to that location I never was carded. I had to walk back home 18 minutes and grab my passport and come back. I came back and it was 5:57 pm, 3 minutes to closing. (not my fault, I had to walk all the way home and get my damn photo ID to prove that i'm almost 40!). And guess what? They closed 5 minutes early! So I shoved my cell phone clock against the window, and I banged on it with my fist and yelled at them. "IT'S 5:57, YOU ARE STILL OPEN FOR 3 MINUTES. AND YOU SENT ME HOME TO GET MY ID!!!" The young cashier opened the door and let me grab the beers and purchase them. The tall slim guy with thinning hair told me they where closed. I said "You closed at least 3 minutes early, the sign says 6pm. I have 3 minutes!!!" I never did this before to any business, as a matter of fact my wife and I owned a shop too and we closed early as well a few times. I understand that it happens sometimes. But these guys sent me away to get my ID and come back a 36 minute round trip, so I was fuming!!! I'm definitely taking those last 3 minutes. As I was being cashed out I was absolutely furious! I slammed my opened passport on the counter and said: "What does that say: 39 YEARS OLD!" Then I said: "I've been shopping here for 8 years, I'm married for god's sake (pointing at my wedding band)" HOW COULD YOU UNDERSHOOT A PERSON'S AGE BY 20 YEARS?! In reality, that they didn't undershoot my age. How many 39 year olds look 18? Added to the fact that I haven't been carded anywhere else in a decade. They are just MISERABLE people on a power trip who did not want to work on the long weekend!!!
