I have a compromised immune system and during this coronavirus episode I wanted to get some zinc tablets and lozenges to help my immune system to run at it best possible. They had more than double the price. I asked him why he would do such a thing and he commented "because I can". When I say "he", I mean the older gentlemen in the picture above. That is pure EVIL. These are things people buy when in need, to take advantage of the situation in cruel and pure evil. I am not a regular at this store and this is why, behavior like this. I buy vitamin D drop, a brand they carry and I never buy them there and garlic pills as well which they never get my business for and now, in a state of emergency, I will do without. Fuck you!

I managed to get 2 bags of the 4 I needed but he refused to share pricing with me for those two. He also insisted on helping other people once he got my money even though the herb jar for the 3rd herb I needed was sitting in front of us. He just angrily punched the prices into the register for the 2 already bagged and quickly shoved the receipt into the bag: it was really clear he wanted me out of the store because he treated the two women behind me entirely differently and had no intentions of bagging anything else for me - he completely ignored me once I paid for the 2 bags and after he told me to get away from his checkout so he can serve the other 2 women. Really shady experience and I don't feel safe going back there due the progressive aggression he showed towards me as well as the way he was angrily handling my items. I haven't been there in over 5 years; I should have kept it that way.

I've only had their chocolate bars (where you can find them at select places around the city) as well as their soft serve during the summers. Their store is small where there is no seating. Upon entering, you are met with a display of bonbon chocolates. To the side they have a wall full of their chocolate bars and they also have a freezer with their ice creams/soft serves as well. Their bonbon flavours are quite unique, many of them being Asian flavours (think tangerine jasmine, ume black sesame, coconut pandan, Ovaltine, tom yum lemongrass, White Rabbit, salted egg, durian, Pei Pa Kao (if you know you know!)). Their chocolate bars also are quite unique as well like the mi goreng (Indonesian fried noodle), durian, hojicha, and caramel pork floss). I had their soft serve last year which was a lemongrass gelato with yuzu/caramel & jasmine tea agar jelly. This year when I went, they had toasted milk with Pei Pa Kao (regular cup is $6.50, a mini cup is $5). Such interesting and unique pairings, something I've never had before (especially pair the Pei Pa Kao with ice cream haha!). Overall, a chocolate gem in East Chinatown. Do not miss out on going to ONYX Chocolates!!

I ended getting the 16-piece assorted box and they were $57! I have to say this was one of the most unique and memorable chocolate experiences I had. Each piece felt like a mini adventure, combining bold, unexpected flavors you wouldn't normally associate with chocolate-- but they work beautifully. Standouts for me were the dragonfruit black sesame, Thai tea, and tom yum lemongrass. The craftsmanship behind each flavor is incredible, yet somehow addictive. These chocolates is something to savor slowly. Don't pop these like candy-- smell it, feel it, look at it, and taste it slowly.... Also I love the color on each individual ones!! Makes me not want to eat it. Shoutout to the chocolatier, such an incredible experience! I'll be back!

Most items are imported from Turkey, even their household cleaners and frozen foods! Cheese from a Turkish company in Germany. Soujuk (Turkish sausage) from a Turkish company in Montreal and USA. The staff member is very enthusiastic about the products and explained the most popular items to me so that I can get familiar with Turkish groceries and cuisine. She even wrote down four of her favourite dishes that I can order at a restaurant! She spent 30 mins talking to me about it! Her favourite dishes are: Iskender Kebab, Beyti Kebab, Lahmacun (Turkish pizza), and Kuefe (dessert). Their frozen food are very popular. You can also order items on their website. I asked her why people would buy house cleaning and laundry products imported from Turkey rather than local products. She said the cleaning effectiveness is better. I appreciate that there is a fair amount of their cheese selection dedicated to Canadian cheese makers/farms. The ambience is an upscale store with a warm feel. I think you can also get a drink and small things to nibble on while you're there. They offer local delivery, which I used last Christmas with no problems. Basically, this is a local gem. Firstly I'll just put this out there just cuz: Growing up this address was a Cambodian restaurant ran by a friend's father who was a Cambodian army officer and kept talking about one day returning to his homeland to help with demining efforts (the legacy of the dark Khmer Rouge era). Right now this address hosts Good Cheese, which when it first opened felt like a gentrifying jab in the area (what, a wine snack bar in East Chinatown, what whitey madness is this?!), but never got around to trying it in that phase. During COVID they didn't just like many restaurants at the time pivoted to selling bottles, they revamped themselves to be more of a gourmet grocery, which is the iteration I am only familiar with. They still have some bar seating if you ever so inclined to have a glass and a bite. Though mainly you're probably here to admire the top-to-bottom shelf after shelf of gourmet goods from local and imported sources--jams by Kitten & the Bear; French chips in interesting flavours; chocolates; $10 and up canned sardines and other seafood, elevated stuff you won't find elsewhere to treat yourself or cook up a special meal. Wine and beer to take home--fridges stocked with a variety of Ontario craft brews not even the LCBO carries, such as Badlands and a couple Ottawa breweries (Tooth & Nail, Dominion City) I came across on an Ottawa trip. There's a bit of an European-esque grocery vibe to this place, complete with passionate and sometimes quirky staff. And of course there's cheese--good, fancy cheese.
