Beer, wine and cheese platters in the evening. Perfect date spot!
Mike L.

I love this place - both as a store and as a snack bar. It's a great, unique idea for a store/bar, and the quality of the food/drinks and service couldn't be better. As a store, Good Cheese has a wide variety of interesting products to buy and bring home. As the name implies there is an interesting, constantly changing rotation of cheeses, including some really unique ones. There are also some great things to put on cheese (mini onions, pickles, etc) and great things to put cheese on (crackers, fresh bread and pretzels). It's a great cheese store - way more friendly and interesting than the more standard ones on the Danforth. As a bar, Good Cheese is a quiet, kinda romantic place to grab a drink and some really good snack food, including plates of the same unique cheese noted above. There is seating for about 20, in a really nice atmosphere. Their beer and wine selection is similarly unique, and I've really enjoyed the selections I've tried. The food is also excellent - the "kitchen plate" which combines cheese with a bunch of other snackables is my favourite. I've been taking friends here as a "pre-dinner/drinking" spot (since it's open until 10 pm on Fri/Sat), and it's been a big hit. The two owners (I think they're the owners?) are also very friendly and approachable, and happy to give you some guidance if you don't know much about cheese. I only have two complaints. One, the seats at the back of the store/bar are not as nice, since there isn't much back there. I always try to sit at the bar, or the tables closer to the front. Second, there isn't a lot of posted information about the cheese on the store side. Their Instagram feed gives weekly updates about their selection, but in store it would be nice if there was a list of what the different cheeses are, and what they're like, for cheese noobs like me. Overall, this is a great addition to the neighbourhood, and I will be back often!

Raclette (melted cheese over potatoes, ham & pickles)

Love this neighbourhood gem! A fantastically curated & compelling wine list. Fun snacks - like marcona almonds, truffle chips, a selection of hard to find Conservas de Cambados seafood like Galicia mussels & razor clams. Friendly & knowledgeable service. But the real draw is the cheese! Such a great selection. The cheese & charcuterie boards are great for sharing. Raclette on Wed's! Fondue on the weekend! Half price bottles of wine on Sunday! Also picked up a Vacherin Mont d'Or for a NYE party last year and it was such a hit. Great for nibbles & wine with a lovely vibe. Not really a "I'm starving and want a huge dinner" kind of a place. I've heard the sandwiches are good, too. Will just have to keep going back!

Expect to pay more than the regular grocery store but you know you're getting good quality. Sanagan's Meat Locker is not just another butcher shop, it's a meat lover's paradise. They cater to diverse palate ensuring there's something for everyone including offering seasonal and local game meats. But beyond the exceptional quality of their meats, what truly elevates Sanagan's is their outstanding customer service. The staff is not only knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly. They take the time to understand your needs and preferences and provide personalized recommendations. This is my go to place for when I need to buy quality meat to make a perfect dinner at home or impress guests for that special occasions.

Sanagan's Meat Locker is not just a Butchery, but also a market that showcases many high quality artisanal and local products. Their meats are always high quality and enhances whatever recipe you are using. There's also an educational aspect to Sanagan's. If you subscribe to their newsletter, or buy Peter Sanagan's book, you learn so much about what cuts of meat to use with what types of dishes, you discover hidden gems in cuts of meat, not to mention fantastic recipes. I had never heard of flat iron steaks (one of the most tender cuts of beef and very affordable) before Sanagan's and now it's a staple in my household. You are also able to order cuts of meat that are not available at the counter (I ordered duck hearts once) as well as order ahead online. The housemade sauces and charcuterie made by Sanagan's are also delicious. They might be slightly higher priced than supermarket brands, but they're highly worth it. Everyone is also super friendly and helpful at Sanagan's, you just know that they're being treated well there.

They come in mozzerella, provalone, cheddar and a few others. Mendels also does a good deal on stilton. If you buy it off of the wheel it's $5.99/100g But you get two 100g wedges prepaked for $6 flat. Half the price. They used to have $5/lb brie that came in big squares. I would stuff it with fruit and bake it. Cheap and fancy. Global, as far as I know, doesn;t sell large tubs of anchovies, but Mendels does. The giants tubs are $19.99, which I think cuts the price in half of the tiny ones that are $7.99. All in all, the cheapest in the market with a fine selection. The selection isn;t as big as at Global, and there are fewer of the fancy-smancy $14.99/100g seasonal tombes, etc, that you can get from Cheese Magic, but that's fine by me cause I rarely ever get those things. They also have a nice selection of cured fish, like herring on a pickle.

I have been attracted to their prices for cheese, but find that the perceived value is not actual. I suspected this for a while, but only gave in to confirming my suspicions after I acquired a calibrated digital scale. I weighed the cheese at home and found that on my last 3 purchases, I have been short-changed. The first time, I thought it might be a mistake, but this shortfall has been consistent. On my last [now final] visit, I asked for some of their "crumbled feta" and received a tub of cubed feta that was mostly brine. Yes, the whole weight *almost* reflected the quoted price, but paying 88 cents per hundred grams for mostly salty water guarantees that I will be shopping elsewhere from now on.

This is more of a grab and go setup. * No washrooms inside. * The owners are from Philly, which makes sense given how authentic the sandwiches are. * Steak is thinly sliced, cooked fresh on the flat top, topped with melted cheese, and finished with their house made hot sauce. * The menu is surprisingly large, and I am already planning to go back to try a few more sandwiches. * The owners are warm and love chatting with their customers -- the energy inside is friendly and relaxed. * Sandwiches are around fifteen to eighteen dollars and worth every bite. * Apple Pay available for quick checkout. * Located at 300 Richmond Street West, just a short walk from the subway.
