I would not recommend this place. The hygienists and x-ray technicians were all really nice however this place is genuinely horrible. I got 3 of my wisdom teeth removed here and I was given Novocain by needle but it didn't numb me all the way, as the male dentist (I'm not sure of his name) starting working on me I didn't feel any pain till he reached my jaw bone and starting removing pieces of tooth. I began to cry, the pain intensified and it became a scream. I thought the dentist would stop but he continued and when I got louder and began to shake he got stern and asked me "do you want me to finish or not" I tried to say yes but it hurts, I could not because of his hands in my mouth. Gabby (one of the staff) held my hand to try and comfort since I had began to scream louder and shake uncontrollably. The dentist finally gave me more Novocain and everybody left me by myself in the room. They came back in and he finished, I was more numb and quiet but terrified and traumatized. I had a hard time scheduling a simple cleaning as well so if you want regular check ups this place will not be able to accommodate. RECENTLY I went in to have a couple of teeth checked for cavities. (2 of my molars had some weird coloration) The regular staff were getting me set up to be looked at by the female dentist and were telling me it looked like plaque so I was hoping to hear good news. When the female dentist came to look at my teeth she told me I had 4 CAVITIES in my teeth. One on each bottom molar. Super bad news for me I'm 25 F, I try to take very good care of my teeth. I have had braces and I work with elderly people so I know the importance of dental care. I went to a different dentist because of my negative past experience with the wisdom teeth removal and I didn't want them filling my cavities. I went to DR. Mattingly dental (I've seen them since I was a child) I was ready to have him fill 4 of my molars, he took and look and said it was all healthy enamel just with some staining. This female dentist at Golden state smiles was going to drill into 4 of my healthy molars. When I had her check I did inform her that I couldn't afford to go somewhere else so it almost feels like a cash grab from insurance on her part. She knows people can't afford a second opinion so she drills into healthy teeth and bills your insurance company. Just my expirience. Do with that what you will. (The photo is post wisdom teeth removal, it was the most traumatizing and painful expirience of my life. They prescribed me ibuprofen for the pain which didn't help much. The swelling stretched my face out a lot and I honestly don't feel like I look the same after.) read more

Tanea, the front desk lady, was extremely rude and disrespectful this is not the first time her being this unprofessional, when I tried to reschedule my cleaning appointment. I explained my situation and the reason I couldn't keep my upcoming appointment, but instead of being understanding or helpful, she responded with attitude and disrespect. This is not the right way to treat patients, and it really reflects poorly on the office. I came here recently to have 3 molars extracted. My regular dentist couldn't perform this procedure and referred me here. Although I was a little nervous about the major procedure, I have to say that it went very smoothly. Starting with the scheduling clerk who followed up quickly and found me a convenient appointment, the pleasant receptionist who helped me with my initial questions and really everyone along the way, they all were not only nice but attentive and comforting. The dentist took some time reviewing the procedure with me and discussed potential alternative approaches as well. He determined that the initial plan was the right approach and also explained the reasons why. Except for the initial injections to numb the area affected, the procedure was not only painless but surprisingly smooth and quick. I felt I was in good hands at all times. I also appreciated the TV right on the wall in front of me playing serene nature documentaries. Finally, they made sure I understood what to expect and what was required of me in the hours and days to follow. They made sure to give me printed instructions for reference and plenty of clean gauze to use for the next couple of hours. Although I'm sad to have had to say goodbye to the teeth, recovery has gone well. I am glad I came here for my dental work. read more

Got my wisdom teeth removed, they fractured my jaw and dislocated it They only prescribe me ibuprofen, and I actually gotten an argument with the lady at the front desk writing the prescriptions (only the doctor supposed to prescribe medicine) saying that it's normal and I'll be fine. Had to go to the ER three times after that, my face was swollen beyond belief Finally got an appointment with a different doctor at the same location and they told me I would have to go to physical therapy after my mouth heals. I was in pain for weeks after and it seemed like they didn't care at all. My face was so swollen no one in my family recognized who I was until I told them it was me I was under anesthesia and not even 30 seconds after the procedure was done and I walked myself out of that building almost falling over, no one escorted me out to make sure I was OK after being put under and as soon as I opened my eyes, the doctor was gone. Completely unprofessional, and when I called them to see if they could prescribe anything for the pain, the lady laughed and hung up on me. read more

Took my mom there to get some teeth extracted and I was very satisfied. The process was very fast and she had no complications.

About 6 months ago I went to a dental office which did X-rays, cleaning and full first patient exam in under 25 minutes with no follow up visit scheduled and perfect bill of health. At Golden State Smile, I had a completely different experience with Dr. Elisa who wasn't simply addressing my mouth, but each tooth individually, front and back. She then retraced her steps and measured each one which allowed her to order deep cleaning for my teeth which is covered by my insurance since there were findings to warrant it. At the other place, I had no cavities and no problems after an extremely quick exam while here, after a very thorough exam, I ended up needing deep cleaning and filling of 3 cavities. The way she spoke made me feel like I was an individual she cared for rather than just a number; it could have been her subtle Colombian accent, but whatever it was, I was extremely happy and confident that I've finally found a highly knowledgeable and caring doctor who wants to see me have a bright beautiful smile full of teeth for a long time. Oh and I read some of the other reviews with people complaining about the doctor's here finding issues which others couldn't, and all I could say is that I would rather have a smaller issue fixed today before I have to face a bigger issue down the line because I prefer a true bill of health over a false clean bill of health. read more

Of all the times I've been coming here for the last couple months, I never had any issues. To me, it's not just about asking random questions but asking the right questions upfront (hence the negative reviews which I don't understand). So far they were able to answer all my questions and schedule me at the times that I asked without hesitation. The entire staff from the front office to Dr. Val and her assistant Jessica M have always been great to me. The only thing I wished is that they did all the procedures here but that's not the case unfortunately. Well, this is unprofessional. My appointment to extract 2 wisdom teeth is supposed to be today. Woke up at 6am this morning. Spent one hour driving to get here and this is what I see when I walked up. "Closed due to power outage" I didn't get a notification through text or phone call. How unprofessional. Also, they don't call you the day before to go over any questions or concerns you may have. So I tried calling them at 9:30am. No one picked up. No return calls. They canceled my appointment 4 days beforehand. I had been waiting for this for nearly 2 months while in pain. All because the 'doctor' apparently had a conference come up in Colombia (had know idea they did dental conferences there) and 'needed to take this opportunity', and will no longer be in the country. I understand it is a Medical practice, but that is just completely unprofessional and ridiculous. One person told me I was on the cancelation list, the other said I couldn't be on the list because 'it would be unfair to the other clients.' What would exactly would be unfair? AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! If I could give them a -10 I would. I went in for a wisdom tooth removal. The office manager refused to give me a treatment plan so I have no idea what they are going to charge me. When I asked to a treatment plan she told me I'd have to get it from my insurance which is NOT true. She purposely denied me my treatment plan so they can add extra bs on there and overcharge. Jokes on them because I have always filled a complaint with Cigna and I lawyered up in case they attempt to do some fraudulent stuff. Then when the lady did my X-ray, she had me hold onto a bar and asked me to lean backwards and told me not to move. I knew my scan was over because the machine stopped moving, but instead of coming back to me she was too busy laughing and joking with her peers. Literally had me wait 3-5 mins in that leaning position as if I'm on a roller coaster. Then when they sat me in my chair, I waited about 45-60 minutes. When the surgeon arrived he briefly explained the procedure and gave me minimal post op instructions. When they were doing the procedure I was complaining from pain and he would make rude comments like, "I guess the anesthesia doesn't work as well if have an infection". He was so rough that the whole time they were doing it I could hear & feel my teeth breaking/shattering. So I'm scared that maybe something might have been left behind. When the procedure was done, the doctor left without saying goodbye. His assistant started rambling about what I assume was after care instructions but unfortunately I was too high to comprehend. (You would think they would explain this to my husband who would've been able to understand better) Right when I was about to leave I asked her if I was supposed to put gauze when I got home and she said, you should already have gauze. I told her I didn't, she checked and she noticed I didn't so she handed me gauze to put in my mouth. They sent me home with very minimal after care instructions even after I said this was my first time, forgot to put gauze on my wound & didn't write me any prescription for pain medicine or antibiotics. They didn't even check if I had a ride home. They literally just let me walk out on my own knowing I was still high on the laughing gas with no care for my safety. Then the next day I called the office asking for pain meds and the office manager insisted she sent it. But she didn't. So I called her bluff and 3 wayed her with Kaiser and Kaiser flat out told her that nothing has been submitted to any Kaiser in the Bay Area. She felt stupid and said she would submit. Fast forward to today, prescription still wasn't submitted so I called again. Once again she insisted she sent it and I told her she didn't and she needs to send it NOW! After 48 hrs she finally did her damn join and sent my prescription over. This place is a joke. They're WORSE that western dental. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY!!! read more

The saga continues with Golden State Smile. After my initial experience, they started sending me a bill for $126, even though I have insurance and had already paid my co-pay. I called them multiple times, went in person, and left numerous messages with the front desk, but no one ever got back to me. Frustrated, I finally contacted my insurance company. They informed me that Golden State was trying to charge me the difference in fees for services the insurance company had already covered. A few days later, my insurance followed up and said they had spoken with Golden State, who claimed they were having issues with their billing system and told me to disregard the bill, which I did. However, not two months later, I received another bill via email and text! This place is beyond frustrating. I would stay far away! read more

It waaaassss an experience... I mean they did get my teeth out... so that was cool. I did end up having to reschedule because the first dentist was no longer coming in for my original appointment. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR BENEFIT IDENTIFICATION CARD. If you're someone with anxiety like me make sure and ask for the gas or something to take before hand , if not they will numb you and start pulling. Unfortunately they had to drill and break one of mine and I'd say that was the only one with pretty bad swelling afterwards but it was a tussle getting it to come out. They send you out with a little goodie bag that has kind of bare minimum aftercare so do your aftercare research. They probably won't have your meds ready for you for a couple hours so take some over the counter pain meds asap unless you wanna go to the ER like me... that's the only way your getting something stronger anyway. They will tell you a fake cost initially and then tack on extra procedures to upsell the crap out of you when you come in for the procedure. Watch out for the Nitrous Oxide upsell $225+ which everyone in the waiting room was confused about. They don't tell you what is needed for your procedure upfront. Once you challenge them in the extra costs, they act like you should have known everything. They tell you all the important information when it's too late for you to educate yourself so you are stuck going with whatever they say and these are thousands of dollars of upcharges. 2. Lies, told us that prescription was sent to pharmacy when we left. Was waiting at pharmacy to get prescription but pharmacy claims to never have received the order after an hour has passed. Called immediately and said they they have sent it and it might take an hour for the system to update itself. 4 hours later, pharmacy still hasn't gotten the order. Called them back and said that they are waiting for the doctor to send it in. So you blatantly lied to me earlier? Everytime I call them, I'm just expecting some kind of dumb excuse or lie. Don't go to this place. They need to fix their shady business practices. I had my wisdom teeth out & besides the fact that wisdom teeth removal is already a terrible thing to go through, my experience here was not good. Firstly, not once did the women in the front spell my name right. I filled out at least 5 sheets of paperwork, that included my full name, so you would think they would get it. It's Emily, not Emely. I corrected them & was told they would change it however they did not. Second, after the removal, I was specifically told no stitches were put in my mouth, so what did I notice a week later in the back of my mouth? A stitch! Not a big deal, but the fact that I was literally told, no stitches were put in, leads me to believe the assistants do not know what they're talking about, and miscommunication in regards to these things is not ok. Additionally, I was not informed about any medications or prescriptions whatsoever, I figured I'd just deal with the pain & take Tylenol from home as needed. I come to find out I was prescribed 4 different prescriptions, one being a antibacterial med, due to the open wounds in my mouth, and only found out because my pharmacy texted me! Why are you not telling patients you're prescribing them things???? Lastly, I'm finding out later, that they are supposed to go over care instructions with you and someone else with you, in case you're not fully competent and understanding since you're high on laughing gas and numbing stuff. They did not do this & while the healing process for myself was fine, I was very stressed from start to finish because this whole experience was a disaster. read more
