Cross posting this review, but it is an important message to share. Golden State Hay recently moved and with the move has new ownership. From what I understand, a wonderful large family with many children owned it previously, and now transferred ownership. I had a horrible experience there this morning, when I went to buy materials for our 4H lamb. I have a 5 month old newborn, and also two young boys (3 and 2) and I asked if they had a chair anywhere in the shop to nurse my baby. I was told they would get me one in the back, and I waited 5 minutes so decided to sit on a bucket and nurse, which was discretely done so under my sweater. The female owner came out and told me to nurse in my car, and I told her no, seeing that my baby was currently nursing. As I was checking out, she said "In the future you cannot nurse in her. This is about common decency, and protecting the innocence of children, and you made my husband uncomfortable and he had to leave". I told her if I hadn't told her I was nursing, she wouldn't have even known, that is how discreet I was and modest I was, and she said it did not matter, that it was about "protection of innocence." I have truly never had a worse experience in a shop, and have never been treated this way in my 12 years as a mother. Again, my baby is a newborn, and I was discreetly nursing her under a sweater. I sadly cannot support a shop who does not support mothers and families, and who makes their customers feel shameful for feeding their newborn babies. read more

What a fun place to go to with your family. They have lots of animals to enjoy. We were welcomed as we arrived, and we were helped by two wonderful boys. The owner was also very helpful in helping us get all the things we needed to take our baby chicks home. We will definitely be going back there. read more

Absolutely amazing business! Not just a hay company or a feed store, it's a country gift shop, pet supply, fuzzy animals to pet; cats, dogs, bunnies, chickens and more can all get their stuff here. Tools, a snickers bar, and a bottle of fly spray for my horse... Koi Pond, outdoor garden store, Sheesh, I can't even describe it all. Family owned, Edgar and Yadi deserve the best and they've created it here.. I'm glad I found them again, after years without horses.. This loyal customer is back! read more

They lost all respect and business from me and my family! The lady on the phone on Thursday January 25th around 10:30 was the rudest phone call I've ever endured. Take your business else where unless you wanna feel like crying after talking to them. Edit: Want to clarify what happened I was buying a puppy for my mother. Long story short, they sold my older mother a puppy with parvo. It died pretty much right after she got it. Not to mention, we have an older dog at home and other pets that could've been affected by this dog being sick. Called to let them know and the lady on the phone was the rudest lady I've ever talked to, especially regarding a sickly puppy who died under 40 hours of having it. She hung up on me when I was trying to figure out why they would sell me a sick dog. Do they know about lemon laws??? According to Animal Legal defense.org, "All Puppy Lemon Laws give dog purchasers the right to return a sick or dead puppy for a refund or replacement." They can get in serious trouble for selling sick animals. I am just really upset about this situation and the lack of professionalism from Golden State Hay. read more

I had high hopes for this place based off reviews and I attempted to contact them, but I didn't get a response so had to show up. Before you try to go here, the hay is only for bigger livestock and not rabbits or guinea pigs. The cutting tends to be 1st, and ideally you want to be looking for 2nd. They also won't say their supplier for whatever reason, which isn't great if you're trying to avoid a company you've had issues with due to quality control. Wish they had been upfront before I drove out there with them knowing that's why I wanted a new hay supplier. read more

Such nice people! They kindly took my 3 roosters that I've been unable to find good homes for. This place is like a sanctuary for animals, and the kind souls who run the operation deserve your business we could tell the animals were well cared for, and the pens were all very clean, which was impressive for how many they've got. This place is great. Nice people. Lots of supplies. Some rescue animals pulling at my heart strings. When my kindergarten class incubated eggs didn't hatch, I called GSH and they let me know when I could come pick up some 3 day old chicks. All other local feed stores had older chicks. I bought 3 red blue laced Wyandottes, 4 buff brahmas, cream leg bars, olive Eggers all females. My students were so excited and some of us teachers are adding the chicks to our own flocks. Chicks were vaccinated and healthy. I will go back for feed. A little hard to find as they need better signage on the main road. read more

First impressions are last impressions. Upon exiting my vehicle, I was pleasantly greeted by the yard helper (I should've got his name). The greetings continued as I entered the store. I explained it was my first time there and what I was looking for-bulk seed for Canaries. They had what I needed, were very knowledgeable, and I felt very comfortable. They even loaded the heavy bags into my vehicle. I'm sold on GS. Another positive aspect is the ample parking. The place I used to go had a very small parking lot along with getting in and out onto the street was sketchy. Thank you Golden State. read more

Great family business that is consistent with their products and service. I always get great service and the guys that load the hay are so nice and tie down the load of it needs it. This place is our favorite feed store in three counties. The owner is really nice and always very helpful when I have questions. They carry all the organic feed I need. They always have critters for you to snuggle or something to take home. They are always taking in unwanted kittens and finding them homes. And the prices are good. read more

I generally buy chickens and chicken supplies/feed here, and bring the kids along as they often have a number of livestock the kids love checking out. Owner and staff is friendly and helpful.
