They showed up in a truck full of firewood, and I asked them to dump it on the driveway, expecting to spend 5 afternoons, slowly but surely to organize it in my storage areas. The guys said: "No, we will stack it for you!!" I was pleasantly surprised. They used their own design of hand trucks to wheel the stacks to their designated areas, and two guys threw it up. A half a cord is 64 cubic feet. They left me with 84 cubic feet, give or take a couple of cubic feet. Like many reviewers have commented, you pay more but you get excellent service: a clean delivery with your wood stacked in about 1/2 hour. Tax and delivery is included in the price. This wood may last me two years! I am pleased. read more

Ordered it online. Called me a few days later to confirm date. Arrived with extra person. Unloaded it where I wanted. Stacked it nicely. Took Credit card. What more can you ask for. I measured my wood and it was under the 64 cubic feet. But it was raining and we were winging it, so I can't fault them. If you want you can sit with a ruler and get a few more sticks. :) read more

When you invite people to fill out an online form, and say you will get back to them within 24 hours, apparently "24 hours" means "by the end of the next business day". While I understand they're busy this time of year, I do not think they should say "24 hours" if they really mean "Up to 32 hours". I filled out the form yesterday before 9am, and by noon today still hadn't received a call, so I called someone else and placed an order immediately. Even 23 years after the Internet became a "thing", nothing beats talking to a human being directly. I did receive a voice mail from Golden State Firewood explaining that 24 = up to 32, after I'd called someone else. read more

Professional and well-seasoned wood. Jack showed up with a buddy and they stacked the wood right where we indicated. Fire burns well, hot, and clean. Great job. This is 4 stars and not 5 only because we ordered a 1/4 Cord, and according to my measurements what we got was a little less than that. We got about 25 cubic feet, which is a lot of wood, but a 1/4 cord should be 32. For the price ($180), it seems they could be a tad more precise. read more

They get three stars for responding promptly, coming on time, being quick and efficient. However, twice they tried to leave without leaving me a actual 1/2 cord of wood. You need to be on top of this when they arrive and bring out your measuring tape or pre-measure the area where the wood will go and make sure they fill it. Secondly, the wood was almost 100% Walnut or some other low BTU wood that burned away very quickly. I had asked him what the mix was and he said half walnut, half almond. This was simply not true. It was also discolored and a little bit rotten. But if you want wood need it fast and don't mind the big price. Give them a bell. read more

I ordered through their website, Jack called me back within 24 hours and I had 1/2 cord delivered and stacked just where I wanted it that Saturday. Jack gets customer service, and the stacking and friendly service are all included in the price. This was a welcome change from Fessendon Firewood, where the woman who answers the phone is not very friendly, and they just sort of dump and run unless you agree to pay extra. I tried these guys when the service I used last year wouldn't respond... Everything about this guy was great. He answers his phone, he set up an appointment to delivery the very next Saturday, came when he said, stayed in communication about exact timeline as he got closer to us that day. They stack your wood themselves and sweep up afterwards and the wood quality was EXCELLENT. Very dry & cured - better than last year's load. The only thing I take a star off for was I think $180 for a 1/4 cord is very steep, even with the full service aspect that's 80% more than what we paid before (for similar quality hardwood) so that was a little hard to take. Maybe because we had to wait so long this year the price went up, but still, ouch! read more

Jack & all the other gentlemen here are wonderful, on-time, polite and fast. I considered ordering from a competitor but the headache that comes with that whole process just wasn't worth it--to stay in my budget, we resolved to have a few less fires each week than we had been, just so we could order from Golden State Firewood again. We're ordering a whole cord now--I attribute that to their wood being so good. It burns clean and hot, and our chimney is a lot cleaner than when we started burning and it had been coated from duraflames of the past inhabitants. Filled out the online form, Jack called me 12 hours later. He was incredibly friendly and upbeat on the phone. He asked me when I was looking to have the wood delivered and to my surprise, was able to come 5 days later. We scheduled a 10AM delivery on Saturday morning. At 9:15 he called to say that a customer of his (bakery) needed an emergency delivery and he asked if it would be okay if he came at 10:30AM. He showed at 10:25 and proceeded to unload my 1/2 cord of firewood exactly where I wanted it. When he was done, he swept everything up and was on his way. If you live in the city, this is the ONLY guy you need for firewood. You can call someone who may charge a little less, but have fun trying to get 1/2 cord of firewood from the pile that now occupies your driveway into a neat stack in the back of your house. To top it all of, he's a great guy and really takes pride in his work. As far as the wood goes, it's all recycled orchard wood (meaning that as soon as they cut down the tree, they immediately plant another one) and it's super-dry. It burns easily and puts off a tremendous amount of heat. A perfect experience overall! read more
