Rivertowne Jewelers - The displayed price tag

    Rivertowne Jewelers

I rarely leave negative reviews; however, my recent experience at Riverton Jewelers was…read moredisappointing and warrants sharing. I initially visited the store to have a ring resized. While waiting, I browsed their jewelry and tried on a ring priced at $259.00 (10k gold, per the owner at that time). I liked the ring but decided to think it over. Two days later, I returned to the store ready to purchase. I tried on the same ring again, confirmed that I wanted it, and stated that I was prepared to buy it at the listed price of $259.00, which was still clearly displayed on the tag. At that point, the owner checked her iPad and phone and then told me, "The best I can do is $329.00. The price of gold went up." I questioned how the price could increase by $70 in just two days--especially when the price tag still reflected $259.00 and I had been quoted that same price during my prior visit. I asked if the store would honor the posted price since I was ready to purchase immediately. She refused, stating she would "lose money" and said she would instead send the ring back to the manufacturer. The ring was then tossed aside rather than returned to the display case. In my opinion, this was poor customer service. I was willing and prepared to purchase the ring at the clearly marked price, but I was not comfortable paying an unposted amount that contradicted the displayed price. This experience left a very negative impression. Had this situation been handled differently, they would have earned a loyal customer, as I frequently purchase gold jewelry. Unfortunately, due to how this was handled, I will not be returning.

Forget all your preconceived notions about Rivertowne Commons Shopping Center. This establishment…read morehas been in the game close to 20 years! This jewelry store not only sells fine jewelry and various watch bands, but can repair watches like no other. I had 2 DEISEL watches that needed new batteries and one needed repair. I went to uber popular Batteries Plus first. They did not have the tools to remove the original batteries. Next I tried a well established jeweler in Alexandria. They could open the watches but couldn't get one of them to work. I took that same watch to Rivertowne Jewelers and they looked at the watch repair as light work. They repaired it then held it for observation a day or two. Most repairs can be made while you wait and fees are competitive. Be advised: Security is high. You must be buzzed in and out and security cameras are prominent.

Poor Pricing and Service (DO NOT GO HERE)…read more On December 28, around 2:30 pm, I stopped at the Watch Tune Up Kiosk at the Mall at Forestville. When I approached the counter, the gentleman was working with one customer. Upon taking her watch from the outer sales counter to the service area behind the counter, he turned and asked me what I needed. I rolled up my shirt sleeve to show him my watch and began to tell him that I needed a link removed from the band. He okay and motioned for me to take it off. He took my watch and sat at his seat. He never engaged me or any other customer while he began to work on the watch of the customer he was talking with earlier. HE worked with his back turned to us for 10 minutes. During this time, 4 other customers, who he never saw or choose not acknowledged, came to the counter. He finished the first customers watch and handed it to her. He then proceeded to begin work on my watch. Two minutes later he was done and handed me my watch and the loose links. He began the next job and never said anything more. I waited 2 minutes to gain his attention again and asked him how much I owed. He stated $15. I handed him a $20 bill and upon receiving my change lodged a complaint about how much it cost. He said that that was how much it was and then I asked him how much was a watch battery, in which he said $10. My issue is that it should not cost more to get a new watch battery to make a watch function than it does to have links removed from the watch. At this rate of $15 a for 2 minute of work, that is not extensive, the store is basically telling me that his services are worth $450/hr. That is ridiculous; There are lawyers and doctors in this area that have a much less hourly rates. I told the owner that though I am paying for the service, the charge was too high. He became aggravated and told me that he knows what it should cost. I reminded him that I just paid and he had not done anything for me for free. I left disappointed and in closing shared with him that It should not cost (1) $15 for 2 minutes of work and (2) it should not cost more to get a hardware piece of a watch removed than it does to get a new mechanical piece added, especially when that requires removing the back of the watch and working near the gears and mechanism of the watch. Most online pricing info and guides state that you should pay $5 - $7.50 on having links removed.
