Golden Rule BBQ: I give it 5 out of 5 Hudson's which is obviously the best bbq. At Hudson's they give you ranch too. The food/drinks: The sweet tea was stupendous. The bbq sauce was phenomenal. The ribs were better than the sandwich. Pretty good. Nick thought I thought the sandwich was better than the ribs but nope- I thought the ribs were better than the sandwich. People need to know that Boarshead is deli meat. Not bbq. Later, Nick apologized and let me know that whole sandwich/ribs mixup was his bad. It's all good. The atmosphere: this one time at Hudson's I got a thrift plate and a slaw dawg with all the feexin's. The eaters: Keller ordered a bbq potato. The bbq potatoes are really big and good at Hudson's. Today's butters given: 2 Today's butters used: 0 You tell me what to think about that. Keller's trip to the bathroom: 2 We were a little concerned the second time but he seemed ok. I noticed his food sat there a little longer than I would have let it. I didn't try the stew but the carrots were cut in a way that made me feel like Hudson's is much better. I was offered a 7th sweet tea to go but I was politeful and showed some restraint and didn't get one. I bet it would have been pretty good tho. I wish I would have gotten the waitress's name. She was a little heavy on the ice but the sweet tea was amazing. I wish I would have gotten one to go. Overall: pretty good Allow me to speak for a minute in Derrd person. We went to a gas station after and Keller said gas was pretty cheap. Derr saw a girl that had a face like a moon pie logo. I appreciated the lamp in the hotel last night. The Braves won tho. Driving through Alabama, I swear the whole STATE smells of barbecue! So, by the time we came across Golden Rule in Pell City, I was ready for what they claim is the "best BBQ in the state." Well, ahem, if this is the "best" Alabama has to offer..... Don't get me wrong, it's OKAY barbecue, but I'd put a thousand bucks on the table and say I could find better within 10 miles, if I had the time to look. Their lunch plates are a good deal and the service that goes along with it gets you back on the road in under 30 minutes. I had the pulled pork plate. The meat was a little dry, which confuses the heck out of me. Pulled pork? Best in the state? Dry?!? The flavor was good. The squash casserole as a side was excellent. And the sauce was quite good (and that's what saves the meat). Another plus for Golden Rule is the basket of mini cornbread muffins you get at the table. WOW! SO GOOD! I'd make a trip just for those.....yeah, silly, I know. But, I'm willing to give them another shot at that barbecue claim just to have another basket of those muffins. read more

Where do I begin because this gastric love affair will never end. Fried Green Tomatoes are the very best Ive ever had! Deep fried with golden crust all over. Next time 12 because I had to share with my beautiful wife, she only had 2. I ordered three meat plate with brisket, 3 ribs and BBQ. Sides were collard greens and smashed potatoes with gravy. This Golden Rule is an embarrassment to the Golden Rule name. Have stopped going here. On last 2 visits, ordered a large BBQ sandwich sliced. Large bun containing 2 small slices of meat, dried and tasteless, the tomato soup based sauce didn't help.. Happened twice.. so it wasn't a fluke!! Skip this place, Drive on to the Original Golden Rule in Irondale for a real BBQ... I ordered a combo plate with pulled pork, brisket, Mac and cheese and a baked potato. The best thing was the baked potato. The brisket was chopped so fine that it looked like dog food. The sauce is very thick, and tasted like sweet baby rays sauce. The banana pudding was a container full of cool whip. I would not eat here again. read more

I don't do Golden Rule often, but when I do, nothing ever changes. We always end up with the server that does not listen. This can be very frustrating having to repeat yourself, and then the food comes out wrong. We ordered an appetizer that came out with our entree. Why would we want this now. An appetizer is meant to be eaten first. My wife ended up sending her food back and ordering something else. The first entree was cold and wrong. My sister ordered her gravy on the side, and it came out with heavy gravy on the meat. The server did not listen or pay attention. If she had paid attention, she would have noticed the error. Unfortunately, I will wait another few months before coming back. Maybe I will get a veteran server and get hot food. read more

I agree with JoJo; I really do not understand all the bad reviews. We eat here regularly and it is certainly one of the best options in Pell City. PBR buckets are a steal at 1$/bottle, great homemade chips, sliced pork, vegetables and good kid's meals. I think that portions are more than adequate and service is always good. I am from Birmingham and we have lots of great options there. That is not the case in Pell City! read more

So let me set the scene my family and I travel from North Carolina and we're in the mood for some of the golden rule spuds. We called ahead two hours before closing asked about potatoes we were told yes we have them 15 minutes later we pull into the drive-through and order said potatoes sit in the drive-through for 20 minutes just to be told oh we're out of potatoes they just told me this is a sheer disappointment. 1 star was good service. Waitress was nice but couldn't recommend much because she really didn't eat beef or sausage. I asked for crispy fries and got dark greasy fries. Bread was stale and the Mac and Cheese tastes like it came out of the box. Wouldn't recommend if you love BBQ. read more

I have to say that I have been a long time fan of Golden Rule BBQ. But in the past year or so the Pell City location has steadily declined on the quality of their food. The ribs and half chicken is the worst, very dried out and stale. Service is usually not too bad. read more

They have a smoke alarm that beeps every few minutes. Told manager and he said. It always does that. Fix It!! Almost drove me nuts listening to it during the meal. Bbq is dry. Sides are generally good. Desserts are wonderful. Service is good. read more
