This has been my go-to place for dip manicures and gel pedicures, but my last few visits have been disappointing. I went in on Sunday, Jan 26 for a fresh set. I had a feeling my partner might propose that night, and I wanted my nails to look nice. I decided to try gelx for the first time, and I guess this was a huge mistake. It BURNED like no other under the lamp, omg. They looked nice enough though, and the tech warned me it would burn, so I figured it had to be normal. As soon as I got home, I lost my pinky nail. It just fell right off. By the end of the night, I had lost two more nails. Turns out I was right and he DID propose that night lol which is of course wonderful, but I wasn't able to show off my hands for pictures like I wanted (photo included). By Wednesday, even more had fallen off. I called and explained what was going on and they had me in by the end of the week for a redo, this time with dip powder. It was much better overall--my manicurist was sweet and really took her time, even though this was a complimentary service. However, I was a bit disappointed in the general shaping. She applied tips but didn't follow the natural curve of my nail--a few of them curved up quite noticeably, which can cause separation between the real nail and the false nail. As for today, I came in with the inspiration picture included below--sort of a muted pink/neutral French mani with chrome or some sort of high gloss finish. I showed the tech, and she said she's got it. Well, she looks at my toes and asks if she should use those same colors (French with stark white tips and a chrome finish). I say the main color is good for the fingernails, but the tip should be more pink. She nods like she understands. She starts painting my nails and goes in with the same white polish. I figure I should trust the process, but I ask if she's planning to go over the white with something pink. She says no. I'm confused, but I decide it isn't the end of the world if my tips are white. I notice the white tip on my thumb isn't symmetrical. I try to be straightforward and ask for "more white" on the left side. She looks at the nails side by side and brings out a file to adjust the shape. I think maybe she just couldn't understand me very well. She's about to finish it them off with the same silvery chrome I have on my toes, and I make one last attempt to get something close to the picture. I ask if they have a light pink instead. She runs off, comes back, and does a test nail. It looks a bit pinker, so I say we can use it on the rest. By the time I see them all done, I realize it has a pink-GREEN duo chrome shift. Kind of fun, would be good for a Wicked themed set, but sooooo not what I wanted and not what I asked for. I didn't feel like I could say anything because the tech was already rushing off to complete a waxing service. They were busy and I think my appointment put them a bit behind. Another manicurist I'd worked with previously comes over to take a look, and I think she could tell I wasn't happy. She says I should request her next time. She's always done a great job, so I think I'll have to stick with her from now on. Shout-out to Lee! Or maybe it's Lilo, I'm not 100% sure. I used to feel like I could count on this place to always deliver, but now it seems like you have to stick with your regular artists or risk getting a disappointing result. I wish I could turn back time and request dip powder nails from Lilo on the day of my engagement :( it still bugs me that I had such a manicure fail on the one day I really wanted my nails to look their best. I took myself and my two girls here for pedicures as we were visiting in Richmond where my one girl just bought a new home. We made an appointment for noon earlier that morning and they were able to accommodate us. One star. My two girls were happy with their pedicures, two more stars. They had ladies doing their feet. I had a man doing mine. I paid for the most expensive pedicures for all of us $65 each, still not crazy expensive. The girls were satisfied with their pedicures. I was not happy with mine. When he was cutting my toenails he dug into the side of my big toe on the left and cut me and this morning it is red and throbbing and I imagine it is infected. He also doesn't understand a hot rock massage, you were supposed to hold the rocks in your hands and rub the legs and feet with them not just Pat occasionally the skin on the legs and feet here and there with the hot rock. This pedicure is supposed to include 15 minutes of massage, I set my timer on my phone and I got 9 minutes of a very poor light passing of the hands over my lower legs. I did not get a foot massage or calf massage or anything even close. Also there's this mask that they are supposed to put on your legs and then wrap your legs in hot steamy towels. He used like a tongue depressor or something to put the mask on the bottom half of my calves and shins but I looked down the road and my daughters person has rubbed it properly on her whole leg, Then she went over and got the hot towels and wrapped them around her legs and put her paraffin bags on her feet. My guy did a very poor job putting the mask on my lower legs He didn't get it over my whole leg He didn't rub it in It was put on very poorly and then he went and got hot towels and wiped it off almost immediately. He's a very nice person I'm sure but he needs to be trained on how to properly do a foot massage. He was also definitely in a hurry to get to his next customer who was already waiting in a chair. I think this is why he rushed my services. I also noticed that they wheeled the carts they were all using on the previous customers right over to us, and then after us, to the next customers. I did not observe any cleaning or sanitizing of any of the tools during the changeover from customers at all. This is disturbing. This morning I cleaned my foot again wrapped a band-aid with Neosporin around my big toe, but every step is painful. Also, the pedicure massage chairs are a cream color and they look gray. I imagine they could do with a really good scrubbing with some Clorox wipes. There are no headrest covers at all. I am not terribly impressed with the polish job, but it's okay and it'll do until I go back to my regular place in Sonoma County. read more

I live out in SF but the trip out to this side of the Bay to get my nails done is 10000% worth it. Try to always call ahead of time and an appointment because they tend to get busy with walk ups but they'll do their best to accommodate you. The shop is located in the San Pablo Towne Center so there is plenty of parking. The space is always clean and they offer complimentary snacks/drinks. Service prices are super reasonable which also adds the list of reasons I will always come back to Golden Nails and Spa. All the ladies here are super sweet and accommodating but I want to give a special shout out to Julie. I showed her a picture of an ombre french set with chrome on top and she made it come to life. It took quite some time to do my nails but I was not in a rush and I actually really appreciate how detail-oriented she is. That being said, they turned out exactly how I wanted and it's honestly the best set of acrylic nails I've ever had I will always come back as long as they're here -- thank you! read more

Let me preface this by saying that I am currently on the hunt for a new nail salon. Today I tried Golden Nails because of its proximity to my house and its Yelp star rating. I didn't hate it but thought there was room for improvement. Is there a star rating for that? 3 doesn't seem enough and 4 would be a lie. I got a good pedi for $30 bucks. I felt it was thorough and the scrub was done with effort but I also felt it could have gone on a little longer. (I always think that though because I'm old and reminisce the days when manicurist would bust a sweat scrubbing people's feet!). I wasn't offered a higher end pedi even though I found out afterwards they have different types/levels and I didn't find anyone there on the day I visited to be particularly friendly towards me even though I tried to engage and ask questions about their services. Maybe because I not a regular, because there were other customers in the shop that they talked to. They weren't rude just not very friendly. The massage chairs there are really nice and didn't hurt my back like other nail salons I've visited. Great color choices too. Overall I do plan on going again. Next time I'll try to get a fill and maybe skip the pedi. read more

The service was horrible. There were three different nail technicians helping me alternating in between me and another person. One of them was extremely rude and talked harshly to me just because when she asked if they were OK, I said they were a different size which was true, she rolled her eyes and said "ugh" and with attitude fixed it. Prior to helping me she was sitting at a table doing her own nails, so she was already upset that she had to get up to help me because I I'm assuming a coworker asked her to because more customers came in. It was really uncomfortable . It has got to be the worst French manicure. I've ever gotten to top it off the materials used for my pedicure were smelly. I had a good experience there once so I went back, but this second time I was really disappointed never coming back here. read more

I've been living around this area my whole life and can't believe it took me so long to run into this gem of a place. The salon was beautiful and the vibes were amazing. I went in to get a basic gel pedicure as a walk in and surprisingly they had a spot for me within minutes considering how busy they were at the time!! I got serviced by the lovely Vivian and I couldn't have loved the outcome more. If you go here always look for Lilo. She has been doing my nails for over two years now and it took me a very long time to find someone who can do nails the way I like after moving to San Pablo about three and a half years ago. It was hard to find someone who cares and who takes their time to do it beautifully. Lilo is very nice, and always gives good recommendations on what shape, length, and style will look best on you. Although she takes her time to do it right, I am never there for an unreasonable amount of time. She is efficient, knowledgeable, and she never hurts me. I have gone to many people who have cut me and scraped me, but Lilo is very careful. I always get compliments on my nails from all of my friends and family, and all of my customers at my job tell me how beautiful my nails are and ask me who I go to. The energy is very calm and she always asks me if I am doing okay and if I am comfortable. I will continue going to her and only her because of how much effort she puts in. I did a french tip and she took her time to do each nail with care. I apologized because of how long it was taking her but she told me as long as I am happy and I love my nails that is all that matters to her. That is a perfect example of how kind Lilo is whenever I visit her. I was not able to get pedicures for a quite a while because I hurt my feet, but when I was cleared to do so by my doctor Lilo did an amazing job as usual and she took her time to make sure that I was comfortable and she didn't hurt me at all. Now I can wear my sandals again! After going to the same nail tech since I was a little girl I didn't think I could find someone after I moved but I am SO happy I found Lilo. I highly recommend you ask for her and get a full set from her as soon as possible because I guarantee you will love the way it looks. My retention on my nails lasts a very long time, and even though I work with my hands I do not have my nails break or come off easily. Thank you to Lilo for always being available to me, helping me feel comfortable, and doing my nails BEAUTIFULLY. She is the best and I cannot thank her enough. Her pedicures are the best I have had and very relaxing. Definitely book with her if you can. She is THE best. So i been coming to this place for a few times now and what can I say... the quality of their products is good, prices are pretty reasonable which is the best part! technicians do a great job overall but if there's something I have to complain about is the customer service. Last week i got my nails done here, the lady who did my nails was rude from the beginning i mean she was just acting mean from the start she seem to be in a rush even tho it was early in the morning and there were barely any clients at that time. She hurt my cuticle as she was filling my nail therefore causing tension on me, she kept grabbing my fingers pretty harsh like literally felt like if she was about to cause an injury on my finger. When i told her that the way she was holding my hand and fingers hurt she wouldn't even apologize. The lady kept talking to her coworker next to her as if she was saying stuff about me; I don't understand their language but you can tell when people are talking shit about you, she would say something and her coworker would look at me and laugh like wtf that's just rude. And to make this worse she hurt the shit out of my fucking fingers.l, at the end of the service she didn't even say thank you or you can leave now she just grabbed her fucking stuff turned around and left, wtf y'all us clients are paying for a service we don't get shit done for free. When i paid at the register she approached to me and with a sarcastic tone she just said "se you next time honey! I'll be waiting for you" she knew I was pissed, she just laughed and went back to talk to her coworker and they both laughed and stare at me. At that point I think it was more than clear that they been talking about me all this time. I didn't complain or said anything to the owner or the lady who's in charge because she's just as rude and mean as her coworkers so if you ever have a complaint there's no point to it. Owner just as mean or even meaner than everyone else!!! I came to this new nail salon in downtown center thinking it would be such a good experience but it was not pleasant at all While my daughters getting her nails done, she gets cut and bleeds and instead of me being notified, they try to hide it. I asked for a receipt on my way out, and apparently they can't provide with receipts. They gave me a paper where she added the date, the price and the signature in the back of a paper won't be going there again! read more
