We put on our skates, took two strides and realized that our skates were simply not sharp. Made it around the rink once and went back to exchange our skates for a sharper pair. I was given 3 separate pair, none of which were even remotely sharp. I asked if there was a skate sharpener and I was told "yes, but there is no one here that knows how to use it!" I was amazed at how candid the guy was, who by the way, was very nice. Since I have skated for the past 45 years and spent all four years of high school working at an ice rink, I gladly offered to sharpen them myself! The guy politely declined my offer.(As I expected) I then went back to the admission counter to ask for a refund. The clerk behind the register simply stared at me and pointed to the sign that said "no refunds" (Yeah I guess I had been warned.) But I can't get over the fact that a business would not accomodate a request that would lessen there liability. Ice skating is inherently dangerous, I get that! I have the scars and dental work to prove it, but the lack of good guest service that could lessen the chance of injury and lawsuit seems like a no brainer to me. Lesson learned: Bring your own skates!

They have different times so that different types of skaters can get what they want from their time on the ice. If you go to the free skate, expect to see a lot of people who can't skate well. They are a bit erratic, cling to the sides, and aren't paying a lot of attention to anyone else. There are also a lot of kids with those big bumper thingys. Chilled Ponds has a restaurant on site, so you can get a drink or a bite to eat if you get hungry. The bathrooms have tiny stalls with wide gaps in the door where anyone can watch you doing your business. So, I'd say it needs an update. Still, it has a family friendly, welcoming vibe. It's a good place to go to try out ice skating.

Saw them at the Haygood Roller Rink. I wasn't very impressed with with the venue or the gals…read more While they were all good at what they did the actual presentation was bad so my first experience with roller derby was pretty terrible. The commentators at the event didn't really say anything about what was going on for each of the 2 minute jam sessions (if that's what they're called) and didn't really say anything about the particular players or try to get the crowd involved. It was fairly dead. There weren't enough seats set out for the people who were there. So, essentially I paid $12 at the door to walk into a really crowded old and outdated roller rink which had probably 50 or so chairs set out at the far end and there were maybe 150-200 people there so everyone else was forced to stand even further back. That's a lot of money to stand for two hours. They didn't have any half time entertainment so we all just stood around and waited for the time to tick away. So for people who hadn't been to a match before it was somewhat confusing and not at all entertaining. Big disappointment.
