My son really loves this place so on his recommendation we stopped in on the way home tonight. It was around 6 pm and only two other tables were seated. Since it was dinner time that can be good or bad- but I price a lot of take out. You can order online so that is a plus. Service was fast and the food is absolutely A-typical Chinese. It wasn't bad but it wasn't a place I would get a speeding ticket getting to either. I had the egg rolls on a prior occasion and it was a large sliced egg roll with too much cornstarch so tonight I went with spring rolls and they were pretty good- there are either 5 or 6 in an order. I was losing focus from low blood sugar so sorry on the count. Portions are HUGE- we did the combo for $9.75 with chow mein - sweet and sour pork and pork fried rice. It was all good but nothing special- the upside though, the chow mein was not corn starched into a glue ball of sprouts n noodles. It was very fresh. For both of us getting two combos and two appetizers, it was $30- not bad. read more

We stopped here on the drive from Seattle to Bend. It's not the worst greasy chinese food place I've eaten at, but its not my favorite. Tried this place today and I was very pleased. Very good Kung Pao Chicken. Spicy hot & sour soup. Fried rice was old school good, had a lot of BBQ pork. Many places now give you very light fried rice with not much flavor or add ins. Sweet & sour chicken was good, very light batter and not greasy. Sauce was red like everywhere else. I don't know where Michael B. gets his. I actually prefer sweet & sour spare ribs with the dark sauce but it's getting hard to find. My dining partner had General Tso's chicken, fried rice and fried shrimp. Again, lightly battered chicken and shrimp, not greasy. I have to admit, the G.T. chicken was a little weird but good. Long pieces in a dark and slightly anise flavored sauce. Like none I'd ever had before. My partner told the very friendly and attentive waitress that it wasn't as she expected. She brought out a generous dish of delicious Szechuan chicken, apologized and said it was gratis. How do you beat that? And they serve up generous portions! I have been a long time customer and have loved their food but we definitely got ripped off today. I placed an order only for $88.95, however was charged $92.95 at the restaurant. Then waiting 55 minutes for my order (despite arriving at my order ready time) only to be told that they ran out of pork fried rice. But don't worry they'll put notes in the system that they owe us. No - please refund my money. Which they do - but someone how its $2 less than what I was charged online. WTF!? How did it go from $11.50 to $9.50 and then overall an extra $4. While some may say that $6 isn't much- it feels like it to me. And how many other times have I placed orders and been charged more. They call me a good customer and then ripped me off. This place is horrible I spent 50 dollars to only get a few things I ordered they forgot almost all my order. I called and talked to them, they of course where rude on the phone. I told them I wanted my money back or I was gonna order so I drove 30 minutes to them to get the rest the girl working their called me a liar and only gave me 10 bucks back and told me I could not order. This place was horrendous. All their food was poorly seasoned, over priced, and their Sweet and sour sauce was extremely Sweet. I know it's just a sauce, and it shouldn't be anything to gripe about, but the sauce was so sweet, it ruined the rest of my meal due to the coating it left in my mouth. The general tsao chicken tastes just like the mandarin Chicken. The pan fried noodle is JUST SPAGHETTI TOSSED IN OLD GREASE!!!! SO BAD!!!! Also, the tea tastes like dish water mixed with dirt. I usually don't post reviews about places that I dislike, but this place was just so bad that I had to say something. . I'm so disappointed in the food. If you like soup and fried rice you are good. I was supposed to get sesame chicken, and fried shrimp. Sesame chicken was not served over broccoli, had no sesames and no traditional sauce. We got a little tiny dish with thick dark red sauce and sour mustard sauce. Mustard? Really? Asked them for dish without the mustard. It was the same dish and it tasted like mustard. It was disgusting. The breading for the shrimp, totally bland and tasteless. But no matter what, Do Not order the Sesame Chicken. They served the sweet and sour chicken same way. This Chinese food restaurant is under totally new management and it is AMAZING... I actually crave their Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef with Pork Fried Rice. Their pot stickers are just something out of this world - they service with a savory sweet type of dipping sauce and it is the best chinese food I have ever had in my life which is saying a lot because I love chinese food but I have had to go to downtown portland to the August Moon to get this type of quality of Chinese food - now we can get this quality of chinese food that is just quite frankly better than any other chinese food we have ever tasted and it is only 15 minutes from where we live in Aims, Oregon. The last owners of the previous chinese food was sub-par at best it was greasy and generally made me sick every single time we ate there. I hope that everyone will give the Golden Key Chinese Restaurant a try and become totally passionate about it as we are so they will thrive and stay in business for a very long long time. We have tried almost everything on their menu, and since being under new ownership we have eaten there over 10 times, before the new owners we went there maybe once a year if that - these people know what they are doing and the food is exquisite. Please give them a chance and visit their restaurant. LOVE LOVE LOVE their food and their waitress is wonderful also, my husband had just had surgery on his hand and was not feeling well and she was very helpful and kind to us. This place is awesome; BY FAR the best restaurant of this type in the area. My brother and I shared one of the family style dinners, and it was a TON of food for the money. There were many different elements, but it was all very well done. The BBQ pork was very moist, the fried rice had a lot of flavor, the fried shrimp was excellent AND cleaned properly (a rare thing in inexpensive Chinese restaurants in my experience), the sweet and sour pork was excellent, as were all of the appetizers. The real star of the meal was the Kung Pao chicken, very flavorful, not too spicy, and the veggies were very crisp and fresh.
