We all do it. We try and deny it but, after a heavy night out, nothing really satisfies like a good, greasy kebab. Brighton is full of places that I wouldn't want to be seen dead in in the cold light of day, and yet can be found in in the wee hours of the morning, but Golden Grill is a place I'd be proud to order a kebab from. One of the cleanest nicest kebab shops in town, Golden Grill is the kind of place I'd go out of my way to, if I desperately needed that kind of night-time snack.
As kebab shops go, Golden Grill is a huge step up from the typical, kebab-shop norm that Brighton is full of. There is a genuine sense of cleanliness and atmosphere: amazing, I know. On top of that, the food itself, while still a kebab and a culinary mile off real quality, is actually made remarkably well. Instead of the rubbish bread you so often get fobbed off with, Golden Grill wraps their kebab meat in a proper flatbread. The salad is fresh (amazing, I know!), the meat looks less greasy and awful than it does at most of these places... It almost feels like an alternate reality. Adding to this, they wrap the kebab in greaseproof paper properly: no plastic, styrofoam-y box things here. Is this a kebab shop that cares about presentation?
If you're in need of a kebab, for whatever reason (no judging here), this is the place to go. Now, I'm not suggesting you go here for dinner or anything like that: this isn't a restaurant or the like. It's just a kebab shop that actually cares about what they're serving you. If it's that time of the night, drunkenly wander as far as you need to get here: your stomach will thank you in the morning! read more
