Scottish Pub in a cool little town. This place was exactly what I was looking for after a morning…read morespent checking out Tantallon Castle and a 3 mile walk back to town. The Fisherman Pie, which was Haddock, Smoked Haddock and Salmon in a Creamy Leek & Chive Sauce, topped with Mash Potato and Isle of mull Cheddar, was delicious. Even the Seasonal Vegetables, which were served with the pie was really good. On top of that, they had a nice long list of ciders to select from and they had the Kopparberg Strawberry & Lime, which is one of my favorites.

On entering it is a spacious and cosy looking bar that is definitely suited for tourists with a collection of beer mats almost being used as wallpaper to cover most of the free space behind the bar, some of which I had never even heard of! The decor and feel to the sitting area itself is traditional with a modern fusion, little tweaks like old spirit bottles (JD mainly) being used as candle holders are excellent to the vibe of the place and really let you settle happily in to one of the booths and take the surroundings in. We went in here because my better half was feeling hungry (I was saving myself for the North Berwick Fry which is just next door to the Ship Inn, in hindsight I should have eaten here) and decided to pop in here for a drink & a bit of lunch/dinner, we definitely weren't disappointed. A chicken and bacon burger was ordered and a chicken and bacon burger it was. Where the chicken that this chicken breast came from I don't know but it was definitely doing some serious weightlifting and bulking up. It was MASSIVE, in all it's chickeny beauty I found it hard to resist taking a huge bite out of the burger. Long stoy short, I ended up taking a huge bite out of the burger. The chicken was beautifully juicy for general pub grub and the bacon was lovely, sweet but slightly salted which gelled all the flavours of the breaded chicken and the toasted roll together. Thinking about it now, I'm getting hungry again. Every time I have a pub burger, the side salad always lets it down, every time, it's like the bars expect people not to eat it, but not this bar. The salad was crisp and fresh, served up with a deliciously sweet vinaigrette that was perfect for dipping a wee bit of the roll in. The spirit measures were 35ml and the guest ales on offer covered breweries such as Innis & Gunn and The Inveralmond Brewery (who do beers such as Lia Fail and Ossian) which justified the bar being about 60-70p more expensive than the others we visited.

Usually venture there about once annually with some friends and have a pint or too in the whiskey bar, but was egged on to try food at Donald's Restaurant. New menus daily, wow...chef is really good at his job, fresh bright food, locally sourced; find out more amazing passionate food combos from their website. We tried Haddock and Salmon dishes, they were supported by variations of potatoes, blanched asparagus, but the chef satisfied the buttery hollandaise sauce complimenting the salmon wasn't up to standards had more brought out, not sure why he didn't notice this before it was presented, but hey it's his creation so why grump it was still devine. Not content with the main my friend who lives out of hotels due to business connections managed to easily scoff profiteroles with chocolate sauce and a latte. Desert menu chalkboard is in their other dinning room, so has to be brought through and placed nearby to read. It was after 8pm but was unsure if the desserts change then? Service was top notch and worth it's double AA rating, bringing Ducks to the forefront of luxury dining in East Lothian. Around £40 for two mains, a dessert, coffee and two beers, didn't break the bank as I wasn't paying all the better! Certainly, I will go back to Ducks but next year, and possibly sooner to their Edinburgh venue to see how it compares?

Love this place. I love it enough to actually leave a review…read more. We have been taking away from here for 3 years and have never been disappointed. While I can't comment on all of the dishes we particularly enjoy the Naga curry, it's always flavoursome as is the goan lamb - the lamb has always been tender. My husband swears by the keema naan and I adore the reliably buttery saag aloo. The dishes are never greasy and the samosas are crispy and well stuffed. We always ask for extra chilli as we like it hot and they always oblige. This place could hold it's own in the city, it is a real treat having it out in the sticks. I just wish they delivered to Oldhamstocks!!

Started out with the wrong order on appetizer, while I waited for a do over my wife had some relatively good bhaji , and the pakora when it arrived was pretty good, nice accompanying sauce but both were on the stingy side portion wise. ( 4 pakora come on) My entree,a naga jolokia chicken curry and the funny part is I didn't sweat, pause or really notice that the hottest pepper in the world was part of the dish. I seriously doubt it's presence in any quantity Hot sauces based on that pepper are not remotely forgettable. While it tasted pretty good it was way below expectations for the description and alleged ingredients in the dish. I'd put my arse on danger money for that dish and found out that I had to send it home with full pay. It didn't even make it to the heat of a vindaloo. My wife got the wrong meal entirely , either that or they are sticking banana and other fruits into it to taste like the dish below the Korma on their menu, curious but wrong. Forgot to bring out one of the naans, the garlic one, which had maybe been shown a picture of garlic. Raita was curdling and unlike -every- other other version with grated or finely chopped cucumber this had many full , thick slices, maybe they have too much water in them and that's why it's unusual to see whole pieces? In the end this costs too much for what we received, presentation was well done but it's a shame they didn't put as much care into the food or service as they did with the presentation. Yet another "best in town because it's the only one in town" restaurant. *Some say the reason that the British Empire existed at all was our need to find a decent meal and after India we lost interest
