I visited this place on Thursday 3rd August with my daughter visiting from abroad. We went to a table overlooking the beach outside. As we went to sit down we were approached by an obnoxious man who rudely told us that they were firstly going to be using the table to take the score for a cricket game. No mention of please, would you mind, sorry about this, apologies for the inconvenience or thank you. Simply a very gruff and rude command! He then proceeded to tell us to sit at a tiny table, with two very uncomfortable little stools and covered in stuff belonging to the cricket playing boys. I later discovered this was the owner! After several minutes realising that clearly we had been given two 'commands' I tried to speak to him to ask if this was how to speak to a lady patron. He ignored me three times when I said 'excuse me' loudly enough for others to hear. His wife finally came over and she said it was unintentional. Clearly this is a pub that does not value its customers as much as it values a game of cricket with young boys. We decided to leave there and then and took our custom to a delightful coffee shop called Sands of Elie. There the food was delicious, the coffee was one of the best I've had, the home baking was delicious, but most of all the welcome and service we received was what we had originally expected in The Ship Inn but was woefully inadequate. I will never return to this inn! read more
