The café at Tesco Musselburgh has recently reopened after a refurbishment. The new decorations are…read morenice and they have given the place a bit of a lick of paint since the old café was booted out. The menu hasn't really changed much but there are a few new things like the meal deal and the specials. I walked up the stairs to the new cafe to try it out and I wasn't really too impressed. The queueing system is a bit slow. There is usually only one person on the register and they are the person who makes the coffees too. The other staff are usually through the back chatting. I ordered a hot chocolate and was charged the price of a fish and chip meal! All I ordered was a small hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and a Tunnock's caramel wafer! How much money do you need Tesco? Jeez. The toilets are clean and get checked quite often so that they are never dirty. Thankfully, they are on the café floor so you won't have to go down into the shop and use the downstairs ones. The hot chocolate was ok but it was piping hot and I had to ask for some extra milk to cool it down.

Service very slow as they process orders as they come in, so if you order a coffee and there are 6 big orders ahead of you, rather than serve the quick coffee you have to wait your turn. For a small place menu is too big, they would do better to offer fewer things and do them better. Would be less stressful for the kitchen and the staff. Very sad to see Tides close. Only thing is its favour is location now.

This Costa is always bustling and full with A really diverse clientele from the very young to the very old. After this experience however I am unsure why. My coffee fine, and the sweet things counter always tempts me, but for the cost, it really isn't worth it. More to the point my service today was really poor, the staff too busy with their own bickering to provide an even adequate service. The cafe was a mess, with several tables to be cleared. I hope never to be back, but you never know, maybe another day to n the future I will forget this experience and, while waiting for a bus in the cold, the beacon will call to me again.

I had a bacon roll, made with streaky bacon that was so crispy it fractured into hundreds of tiny pieces when I bit into it. Also the roll was not fresh and they'd tried toasting it to make it better. It just crumbled too. Very disappointing. Lashings of red sauce did nothing to improve the texture or flavour. Michelle opted for a fruit scone. It looked nice but wasn't fresh either. In fact, she said it was soo hard that i she "sconed" me with it, she'd need to take me to A&E. We did tell the chap who served us, in order to give him an opportunity to rectify matters but he just shrugged it off and presented us with the bill. The only redeeming feature was the pot of tea. It was lovely. But it's hard to ruin a pot of tea so I'm not sure how much that goes in his favour. I'd give it another try on another occassion. I'm not ready to write this place off yet. I'm hoping it was just an off day and the food/service will be better on a future visit. It's got a great location with a fab view of the beach/sea so I hope it does improve.
